She never could bring herself to do it. Train, fight, to be a warrior. It was never her way. Maybe it was a strong sense of empathy, or maybe it was fear. Maybe she just couldn't bring herself to really hurt people or maybe she was just lazy or selfish. People had their theories, but it never went unnoticed that the daughter of the great Sannin was a civilian. Just didn't make sense to people. Hell it seemed unadvisable and dangerous.

What can she say? She was more her mother daughter anyway. She was an outsider anyway. Having not been born within the village walls, Maya lived a modest life. She was from a distant land, a small village with a simply sweet way of life. Maya's old home was beachside, with the rainforest resting behind them. There were only a handful of villagers, all but farmers, merchants and traders. Her own mother is a skillful weaver, selling beautiful tapestries.

It was in that small unassuming village that her father just happened to have met her mother. And not long after Maya came into this world. Her mother never told her much about her father, and she only met him a few times before her mother passed and came to claim her. But by then she was already a girl of thirteen years, having learned her mothers craft.

It was a difficult time, she was young and she didn't understand why she had to leave her home of all these years to go with a man that never bothered to be a real father to her. She was hurt and scared but most of all she missed her mother and the life she had before.

But the years went by and she adapted. New village, new culture and an overall faster paced lifestyle. It took time to adapt to the change. The journey to her new home was long and strenuous. And it was the most she ever spoke to her father.

"What is your home like anyway?"

"Oh you'll love it, we have great food, nice people, and I even set up a nice spot so you can sell your tapestries and earn some money. Trust me there's way more money to be made over here than you could ever make back on the island."

Strolling behind him, staring at his back she mumbled "I didn't need a lot of money…"

He stopped for a moment before he turned around. Kneeling down in front of her, "Listen kid, I know you miss it back there… I never wanted this for you. I wanted.. I hoped you could live peacefully by the beach, but with your mother gone now. It's not safe… the truth is that your life will always be in danger."

Maya stared deeply into the man's eyes, "Why?" How can a little girl ever hope to understand? Her father signed..

"I'm afraid you're the daughter of a pretty important guy, and I've made a lot of enemies during my time. I.. I should have done this a long time ago kiddo."

Honestly, Maya thought very fondly of her island. It held a special place in her heart and she would often visit in her dreams. She was an outsider, looking in the mirror she grabbed her comb and started work on her thick white locks. Gifted with her fathers snow white hair, yet it was her mothers skin that made her stand out. Her dark complexion, a product of her life before. She treasured it, a connection to her mother and her grace and beauty.

When she first arrived at Konoha she was amazed by its size and exuberance. She felt like she was in a movie, and of course the ninjas. She had only known about ninjas through books and comics but here she was fully immersed into ninja culture. She had to learn a lot. Like how they really did not like eye contact, did not enjoy answering questions, and how they tend to be with their own fellow ninjas. It was disappointing but the reality. Her father left not too shortly after. For all his guilt and apologies it still wasn't enough to make him stick around.

So she was alone, in a new place with a new culture and a new people. And for a time she didn't know what to do with herself. Mostly she just grieved. Eventually her father would come back. Missions he called them, but really he was just a traveler. At least that's what she thought, a traveling soul and never found a place to call home. It hurt her that he never tried to make a home with her.

Yet she would never tell him that.
