Author's note: I've been quite sick for the past week and I'm only now slowly recovering. Being sick is a pain in the butt let me tell you that. I haven't been able to work on my other updates. This thing is the first thing I managed to put on paper in a week, so I consider this my "yay, I'm finally getting rid off the brain fog" kind of celebration. I don't know. I'll try my best to have some actual updates out in the next days, if my brain and my body don't fail me again.
This drabble belongs to The Long Run universe, so if you haven't read that one yet, you might consider doing so, because there are references to it in this one.

Being in the Moment
He woke up first, the first rays of daylight hitting him full in his face. Right, they had forgotten to close the curtains last night. A vague movement, no more than a weak twitch, had him turning his head. He was greeted with nothing but a mop of unruly blond hair, sticking out in every possible direction. The blond hair revealed a smooth, tanned neck when the owner of them dipped his head down; the blanket being tugged higher above a shoulder.
Unconsciously Sasuke rolled onto his side, bringing his chest to Naruto's back; the other one's body sleep warm. His heat was a welcome reprieve from the slight chill clinging to the room. They had managed to get the generator up and running again during their previous visit here, but considering the noise it made they couldn't risk letting it run for more than an hour at best, being choosy with which room they would warm up.
A quiet sigh had Sasuke tracing a finger down Naruto's arm underneath the blanket, feeling the corded muscles hidden underneath the shirt. They were relaxed for once: the tension Naruto had been carrying with him for a while now absorbed by the deep sleep he'd fallen into. The fact that he slept so deeply told Sasuke he had made the right choice when he had suggested they would visit the cottage again: Naruto had needed the rest and there was only so much rest that could be gained in a compound that bustled and rustled nearly every moment of day and night. Especially when Naruto was known for taking up way too many tasks. Karin had joked about it before, about Sasuke's eagle eye when the schedules were made up, but if he didn't look after the idiot, who would? Knowing Naruto, he would work until he literally dropped down.
He might have had an ulterior motive as well. Their bodies were pressed flush against each other now and he inhaled Naruto's familiar scent, feeling the smooth skin of his neck against the tip of his nose. Here at their cottage he didn't have to share Naruto with anyone. It was just the two of them, together in their own little bubble. When they were here, there was nobody bugging them about zombies to be killed or runs that needed to be done. There was no schedule to follow, no hasty tempo to keep up with. If they wanted to just lie in bed and while away the day without ever getting up, they could do that. This cottage was their escape, a remnant of a more peaceful time, an easier life.
"You know you can always fuck me in my sleep if you want it that badly," Naruto murmured; his voice still riddled with sleep, but the teasing tone undeniable already.
Sasuke paused and then rolled his eyes, shifting his groin away from Naruto's arse. "Never knew you to be this kinky."
"I'm into everything you want," Naruto snickered and rolled onto his back. His blue eyes glistened and he winked. "Besides, who wouldn't love waking up while being dicked down?"
"You always have such a romantic way of wording things," Sasuke said dryly.
"It's your presence," Naruto said solemnly. "It brings out the romantic in me – or maybe it brings the romantic in me." He waggled his eyebrows, laughing when Sasuke slapped his hip.
"Clearly you're well rested."
"Hm." Naruto stretched out his arms; his back slightly arching away from the mattress before he let himself fall down again. "I have to admit that it's been a while since I last had such a good night's sleep. Must be the lack of zombie moaning," he joked before his eyes flickered over to Sasuke. "Any particular reason why we're here? Not that I complain, but these trips usually aren't so impromptu anymore."
After the first time Sasuke had brought him here, they had in fact always settled on a date together when they would travel here again. Mostly because their schedules didn't always line up together and it was nice to have something to look forward to when the days seemed to drag on.
"Heard Tsunade saying you were overworking yourself," Sasuke said and watched blue eyes narrow for a couple of seconds.
Naruto snorted then. "You mean, you eavesdropped on a private conversation between a doctor and her patient?" He tsked. "Not very proper of you, Sasuke. I'm sure you were brought up otherwise."
"Tsunade wasn't going to say anything and you're too stubborn for your own good," Sasuke stated, ignoring Naruto's noise of offense. "So I took a leaf out of your book and decided to just listen in when I noticed you were acting off."
"I wasn't acting off," Naruto muttered petulantly.
Sasuke simply stared at him until he huffed.
"Okay, fine, so maybe I was a bit more high strung, but life's at the compound has been a lot busier as well lately with the new expansion," Naruto said. "Anyone would feel off after a while."
"Didn't she say you were close to burning yourself up?"
"Only because she loves being as dramatic as you." Naruto rolled his eyes, smirking when that comment earnt him another slap. "Careful now, or else I might think you've come up with some new kinks."
"You're shameless," Sasuke sighed.
"Hm, and you still brought me here regardless. Why?"
Sasuke shrugged. "You needed some time away and this is the perfect place for us to be alone for at least a couple of days. It's not exactly quiet at the compound nowadays."
Not with the constant hammering that was going on as the expansion went on. People constantly worked on the new buildings from early morning to late in the evening and the nights were spent getting rid of any zombie groups that were attracted to the liveliness and the loud noises. They tried to reduce the noise as much as possible, but there was only so much you could do to keep quiet when you had to work with hammers and bricks.
The expansion was close to being finished, however, which was why Sasuke hadn't felt that guilty requesting the key from father again. They could make do without the two of them for a couple of days at least.
He blinked when Naruto slipped on top of him; Sasuke's right leg braced between Naruto's. A cheeky smile lit up Naruto's face as he lowered himself, bringing their mouths close against each other.
"So now that you have me here, what are you going to do?"
Just when Sasuke wanted to lean up and capture those enticing lips, a low but deep gurgle echoed from outside; the noise too close for comfort. They both froze for a moment before simultaneously releasing a sigh; Naruto slumping down on top of Sasuke.
"Just one more hour would have been enough," Naruto complained.
"Like one hour would have been enough to sate you," Sasuke muttered, smiling when that made Naruto snicker.
The blond man rose up slightly. "Okay, fine, you got me there. But you can't blame me when you're this hot and this good at fucking me," he grinned before cocking his head, listening to the zombie shuffling outside. He furrowed his eyebrows. "Looks like he's getting closer to the generator."
That had Sasuke briefly closing his eyes, muffling a curse. Goddamn it, if that dead arsehole actually managed to fuck with the generator … It had taken them way too long to get it up and running again for a stupid zombie to screw around with it.
"Should have dug a pit around it or put a row of stakes in front of it," he muttered darkly and patted Naruto's back. "Move, I'm going to take care of it."
While Naruto did slide off him, he remarked, "Isn't it my turn to get rid of it?"
"No, you got rid of the one in front of the door yesterday, remember?" Sasuke slipped from underneath the warm blankets, grimacing a bit as the chilly air fully hit his warm skin now.
"Oh yeah, but I thought you'd got rid of some as well?"
"That was before we arrived at the door, so it's my turn again." He lifted his katana from the desk, unsheathing it.
When he turned around, Naruto was lounging in the bed, keeping himself propped up on his elbows. He was grinning. "We must be the only couple arguing about whose turn it is to take out a dead fucker."
"It's what keeps the spark going," Sasuke deadpanned.
"All right then, my brave hero," Naruto snickered. "Return quickly to me and I will reward you with a nice breakfast!"
"I wouldn't consider ramen a nice breakfast," Sasuke said critically, thinking back to the packages Naruto had stuffed into their bag.
On the one hand he was happy that Naruto was finally starting to take more with him than merely some weapons, but on the other hand, ramen, really? Out of all the food Naruto could be obsessed with … He had actually nearly started crying when they had found a full box of ramen two months ago during a run.
"Oh, aren't we rather choosy about our reward," Naruto tutted and got out of the bed as well, silently closing the distance between them. He looped his arms around Sasuke's neck, drawing him down into a kiss. "Fine, how about as a reward, we'll just spend the whole day in bed and you can do whatever you want with me. What do you think?"
"I think that such a reward can be discussed," Sasuke murmured roughly before kissing Naruto a bit more insistingly, putting more pressure behind their kiss.
He got lost in their kiss, as tended to happen, but a low pitched gurgle now directly underneath the window had them reluctantly pulling apart.
"Going to make this quick," Sasuke muttered darkly.
He was a bit soothed by the warm promise in Naruto's eyes when he smiled and said, "All right, I'll be waiting for you."
So maybe their cottage wasn't wholly secluded after all, but – Sasuke swiftly ran his katana through the zombie's head, ending its unnatural life for good – it was still a lot more quiet than the compound at the moment.
And it was theirs. The next two days were going to be just about them.
Not even the putrid stench of the rotting carcass against the wall could dampen his mood as he turned around, flicking the remaining blood of his katana.
He had a reward to cash in.
The End
