chapter 1
Heatwave and Quickshadow Flamezer live in Maine together. They love each other very much. They have been married for four years. Heatwave works as a Firefighter and is very good at his job. He does very well at it and has saved many lives. Quickshadow is a homemaker and is very good at it. She loves making sure the house is neat as a pin and making food it what she lives for. She also runs a home baking service at her home and she does a great job at it too. Other stay at home moms and dads help. They make a great team with the business together. Heatwave and Quickshadow had a very good life. They have been trying to have a baby for a sometime. Finally their prayers were answered. They were going to have a baby.
Quickshadow was very happy about this and looking forward to the birth of their baby. Heatwave was looking forward to it too. They started to get ready for the baby and were very excited about it. Quickshadow went to her appointments on a regular basis and was super excited about this. Both her and Heatwave were excited about the baby coming.
They hoped their baby was going to be happy and healthy. They didn't care if the baby was going to be a boy or a girl. They just wanted the baby to born healthy. They waited for almost three years to get pregnant and it was a miracle and now they were going to have a baby and they were excited about it. They hoped they were going to have a very healthy child.
They told their friends and their family about it. Who were just as happy as they were about it. They were plenty excited too and were helping out. They brought things to help get ready for the baby. It was wonderful to say the least.
So far everything with the pregnancy was going well. The baby was healthy and in good shape. Plus there were no complications with the pregnancy.
The baby was due in November. November 12th to be exact and everyone was super excited and hoped to be ready on time.
By November everything was ready and set up now all they had to do was wait. The wait has come done to mere days. But Quickshadow's deliver date came and went. By November 20th she was about 2 weeks over due. If she didn't go into labor by the end of the week she would need to be induced. It was very scary to say the least.
Then on November 24th at midnight of Thanksgiving, Quickshadow went into labor. Heatwave grabbed the bag and took her to the hospital. The family who was staying for the week followed.
Then at 8:00 am a healthy baby boy was born. They named him Hot shot. Hot shot had blonde hair and big blue eyes like his mother. His parents loved him very much.
Then soon Hot shot was taken home. Time passed Hot shot started grow, grow and grow. He was soon able to crawl, walk and talk. Before everyone knew he was a toddler and very active one too. He was always toddling and running around and climbing on things. He got bumps, scrapes and bruises which was normal for active children.
Hot shot continued to grow and grow. He soon started Kindergarten and began to learn with kids his own age. Before everyone knew it he was eight years old. He was now in third grade. Hot shot didn't have anybody he could really call friend. Everyone at school thought the teams, sports and video games he was into was weird. Hot shot was often left out of activities at school which upset him. Hot shot was kind of hope for a friend or a few friends to hang out with.
Then today Heatwave got some big news. "I got the job transfer like we were hoping for and now I am going to another firehouse and we are going to have new home, it is full of many good things and it is a great opportunity." Heatwave said.
"I know it is and I will leave the Maine branch of my home baking business to one of the stay at home moms she has been doing such good work I think she can handle it," Quickshadow said. "We have to tell Hot shot about this," she said.
"I know we do," Heatwave said.
Hot shot came in from school carrying his backpack. "Hey son we have something to tell you," Heatwave said.
"What is it?" Hot shot asked.
"I got the transfer," Heatwave said. "I am going to go to another firehouse to work at," he said.
"That's great," Hot shot said.
"Which means we are moving," Heatwave said.
"Moving?" Hot shot asked. "Where too?" he asked.
"To another state," Heatwave told him.
"Well I am a bit worried, but I am kind of excited too, but I hope to make some friends there, wherever we move too, because it would be nice to have someone to play with and people who won't tease you for every little thing," Hot shot said. "What state are we moving too?" he asked.
"Texas," Heatwave said. "In the city of Dallas part of the largest metropolitan area in the state and the fourth largest in the country," he said.
"Cool," Hot shot said. "When are we moving?" he asked.
"We are moving in two weeks," Heatwave said.
"That is before Thanksgiving break," Hot shot said.
"We know," Quickshadow said.
They started to pack and finished packing over the last week before the move and then the truck came and they packed up the truck and left. They drove for days and did a lot of sight seeing. It was very exciting to say the least. Then finally the made it to Dallas Texas and started to unpack. They were looking forward to their new life there.
Shortly after the move Hot shot noticed he has been feeling very well. His lower left leg has been sore for the past week or so and now it was really hurting. Then he developed a fever. Hot shot felt pretty tired too. After over a week with a fever and limping around and missing on his first week at his new school. Not to mention tonight he just couldn't sleep because the pain was so bad.
His parents decided to take him to Children's Medical Center Dallas to be looked at in it's emergency room. It was one of the best children's hospitals in Texas. Hot shot put on his Pikachu slippers and grabbed Roxy his plush rhino. He was scared and worried about what was going to happen at the er of Children's Medical Center Dallas.
Hot shot got into the car and his parents got in too and Heatwave started to drive the car. They made it to the hospital and headed inside. They were now waiting in the emergency section of the hospital and Hot shot was very nervous about this. Hot shot saw there were children of lots of different ages in the er. He saw babies, toddlers, preschoolers, teenagers and kids his own age.
In fact he saw some kids his own age in the er looking scare and alone. He went over to them. "Hi I am Hot shot Flamezer," Hot shot said.
"Hi I am Hoist Towver," Hoist said.
"I am Medix Redden," Medix said.
"I am Whirl Windal," Whirl said.
"I am Wedge Shoveler," Wedge said.
"I just moved to town and I came here to Children's Medical Center because I have been sick," Hot shot said.
"Hey I just moved to town and came to the hospital because I have been sick," Whirl said.
"Me too," Hoist said.
"Same here," Wedge said.
"This is a coincidence me too," Medix said.
"Talk about small world," Hot shot said. Hot shot and his new friends started to talk about things they liked and things they didn't like. Hot shot was surprised and happy his new friends were into the things that he was into.
"Hot shot Flamezer," the nurse said.
It was Hot shot's turn and he went back with his parents. The nurses checked his vitals and then he was taken to a room to wait for a doctor. A doctor came in. "Okay let's have a look. Quickshadow told the doctor there Hot shot's symptoms, bone pain, limping, tiredness and a fever that wouldn't go away. Doctor examined Hot shot and felt Hot shot's lower left leg. He was sure he felt something in his leg. "Hot shot needs an x-ray stat." the doctor said.
An X-ray machine was brought in and they took a picture of Hot shot's leg. After the picture was taken the doctor took a look at it. The doctor saw Hot shot had a tumor on the bones of his lower left leg. The doctor came in and told them about the X-ray. "Hot shot needs a biopsy done." the doctor said.
Hot shot was taken to another room where doctor numbed up his leg and a nurse stuck a big needle into the bone and took a piece of bone out. Then they patched Hot shot up and started to run tests on the sample of bone to find out why Hot shot was sick.
They soon had the results and were going to tell Hot shot and his parents what they found on the tests. Hot shot was very nervous about it. They went to another part of the hospital and waited there. Hot shot saw his new friends there and began to talk them. He told them how nervous he was and he found out they were nervous too.
"Hot shot Flamezer," a nurse called. It was now Hot shot's turn.
Hot shot and his parents followed the nurse to an office where a doctor was. "Hello I am Dr. Horn," Dr. Horn said. "I have Hot shot's test results, and it is difficult news, Hot shot had Ewing Sarcoma a type of bone cancer," she said.
Hot shot was very shocked and scared as were his parents. Hot shot was still trying to know what cancer was but he knew it was bad and scary. He hugged his parents who held him close.
"I am going to help you get better Hot shot you are going to need treatment," Dr. Horn said. "I am going to help you fight cancer and I am good at my job are ready to fight?" she asked.
Hot shot was scared but he looked his parents and felt ready to go. "Let's do this," Hot shot said.
"That's my boy," Heatwave said.
"That's my poppet so brave," Quickshadow said.
"Now your treatment plan is chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery." Dr. Horn said.
"What is Chemotherapy and Radiation therapy?" Hot shot asked.
"Radiation therapy is using high energy waves to zap the cancer cells and kill them making it go a way." Dr. Horn said. "Chemotherapy is a group of very strong medicines that are taken in many different ways, by injection into the vein, muscle or back, by IV, by central line or by mouth as pill or liquid you swallow. It kills the cancer cells making it go away," she said. "While these treatments are great at fighting cancer they both have some bad side effects," she said. "Radiation will irritate your skin, make you feel tire, feel weak, and upset your stomach. Chemotherapy will also make you feel tired, feel weak, upset your stomach, you might lose your appetite, bruise more easily, get sick more easily and it will make your hair fall out," she explained.
Hot shot became upset when she explained that he loved his blonde hair.
"Hot shot your hair will grow back after your treatment for cancer is over," Dr. Horn said. "It can grow back the same as it was, or it can be a different color or texture or both," she said.
Hot shot found that kind of interesting.
"How long will I need treatment?" Hot shot asked.
"Hard to say you most likely need it for months or longer," Dr. Horn said.
"That is a long time to be sick," Hot shot said.
"I know it is but we are going to help you," Dr. Horn said.
Dr. Horn told Hot shot he was going to get his chemo through central line and was going to have to stay in the hospital for a while. It was not going to be easy to say the least but Hot shot was determine to get better.
Hot shot got check into the hospital and got a hospital gown to wear he got to pick out the one he wanted and he got his hospital room and he saw his new friends were in same hall as him. He found out they also had cancer too.
"Let's fight the disease together and win," Hot shot said.
"Agreed," his new friends said and they all joined hands on it.
They all went to bed after that. Tomorrow Hot shot was going to meet his hospital team, get tests done, get his central line put in and start treatment and he was ready to start fight cancer and he was determined to win!
To be continued.
