It had been five years.
Obito was almost twenty years old, and as he wanted, he was making quite the name for himself among other bounty hunters. Another thing was that his and Kakuzu's partnership was going far better than he expected. Together they were almost as rich as two feudal Lords. They never bought anything spectacular. Only new clothes if their old ones were ruined beyond repair, and also a few weapons. Obito had gotten himself a really nice sword. It was his favorite weapon right after Madara's Gunbai.
Now he was in Amekagure, flipping through the bingo book, trying to find a big target. The bigger the price on their head, the tougher they were Obito had realized. He liked going after those because they gave him a little fun. He was just about to flip the page when-
"Madara."
Obito froze. He didn't know what to panic about first, the fact that he knew who's voice that was, or the fact that he was addressed as Madara. Pocketing the book, he turned around to come face to face with
"Konan."
"So I see you've dropped your mask, Madara." Konan sneered, "Are you trying to ruin our lives, once again?"
Now he was more confused than before.
"So you've been given another chance too." She continued, "But I do not see why it was given to someone like you, Madara."
"Oh..." he muttered, sort of understanding, "I- Konan... Oh Kami... Where do I even start? I'm sorry? I was manipulated by a goddess? I'm not actually Madara? I really fucking regret what I did? Kami... Konan... Fuck. I'm sorry, really fucking sorry okay? If I actually had an idea of what I was doing, I never would've done it... Fuck this is complicated and weird..." Obito rambled, not really too sure of what was coming out of his mouth. Sure Konan had to hate him. After all, he killed her.
Konan paused for a minute at all the confessions that came out. That was really unexpected for Madara-not- actually-Madara.
"So what I gathered from this is that your grand plan at achieving peace did not work." Konan stated.
Obito gave a slight nod, Kami, what was the Sage of the Six Paths doing? It was already a lot waking up in the cave, but apparently Konan was here too? His head hurt.
"Yeah... Zetsu had been manipulating people for years... He made the real Madara go crazy and activate the infinite tsukuyomi and then unsealed his alien mother. Now that I'm thinking about it... the last two days of my life were crazy." Obito explained while scratching the back of his head. This was really weird to explain.
"What the-?" Konan asked.
"I know. Kami you probably hate me down to the core- I'm sorry, Konan. If I wasn't a brainwashed idiot-" Obito began rambling again.
Konan looked at his face for the first time. When he turned around she only noticed that he didn't have that orange mask covering his face, yet her gaze never left his feet. His eye had a panicked look on it. Then she noticed it mangled scar on the right side of his face. What happened to him?
"Stop." She said, looking directly at Obito, "If you want me to think about forgiving your ass you should at least tell me who you really are." She said calmly.
"I'm Obito Uchiha." He said.
Konan looked at Obito, "What changed you?" She questioned, "How'd you even die?"
"To answer that first question, Naruto Uzumaki. The second one, an All-killing Ash Bone, saving Naruto." Obito replied.
"What is with Naruto and making people do a full 180?" She muttered, "Also, what is an All-killing Ash Bone?"
"I have no idea."
"Well isn't that helpful."
"Not like you'd find any mentioning of them in ancient scrolls."
"Kami you're still annoying."
"Some things don't change Konan."
She rolled her eyes before speaking once more, "So if you aren't here to destroy my life again, what are you doing?"
"Uh long story short I met back up with Kakuzu Turning in a bounty and we ended up becoming partners... in a sense." Obito bluntly explained.
Now Konan looked confused, "You know what? Come with me and explain everything. This isn't something that should be conversed about in public." Konan decided, grabbing Obito's wrist, dragging him to her home.
"Does this mean that there is a chance you'll actually forgive me somehow?" Obito asked hopefully as he let Konan drag him wherever she wanted.
"If you give a valid enough reason, which I really doubt, then maybe." Konan huffed as she pulled Obito into her home.
He gave a small smile. Hopefully there was a chance. Though that chance was really small, but still, it was a chance.
Once they were inside Konan's home, they sat down in the kitchen area. Konan had some already prepared tea that she poured into two cups.
"So..." Obito started, "Where do you want me to start?" He asked.
"From what was the beginning of this mess." Konan said as she took a sip of tea.
So Obito began explaining how he went on the Kannabi Bridge Mission, how he got crushed by a boulder, waking up in a cave with Madara Uchiha, watching his friend kill his best friend, going to to Madara to do his will, unleashing the Kyuubi, killing a lot of people, manipulating Nagato, putting the Mizukage under a genjutsu, massacring the Uchiha with Itachi, and every other event.
Once he finished talking about how he died protecting Naruto and waking up in a cave, Konan stopped him from continuing on.
"You did all this for peace?" She asked calmly, even though she was about to shed some tears after hearing Obito's story. She couldn't imagine being so broken that she was convinced that putting the world under a genjutsu was the only way to attain peace.
Obito gave a small nod, "I guess I wasn't able to move past all the death and despair the occurred in my life."
Konan now mostly understood Obito. She was pretty sure that if she was in his position, she'd probably do the same thing.
"Now could you please continue? I really want to know how the hell you started a partner ship with Kakuzu."
Obito gave a soft snort and told Konan most everything that had happened to this day. He ended with how he met back up with Konan.
"You've been trying to right your wrongs." She stated, looking at the tea in her hand.
"Yeah. I don't think I could bear watching someone I care about die twice." He concluded, looking out the window. Onto the streets where rain kept falling at a steady pace.
After a few minutes of silence, Konan finally spoke up, "You know, if you ever need anywhere to go Amekagure will take you in with open arms."
"Does this mean that you actually somehow forgiven me?" Obito asked looking over at Konan.
She huffed and gave a small smile, "Mostly, but I still haven't forgiven you about some things, but maybe with due time, that'll change."
