The row of electronic receivers beeped endlessly. One could easily mistake the pattern for Morse Code, but it was slightly different.
"Your Excellency, we have just received an update from a local informant to append to our information on Rodenius, " reported a man in a sharp black suit.
"In brief?"
"Yes sir! Due to the intervention by a nation named Usea, Louria's invasion of Qua Toyne and its dependent Quila failed. The Lourians were then invaded in retaliation and the continent unified as a nation called 'Rodenius' under Qua Toynian rule."
"What?!"
The man being addressed as "Your Excellency" raised his eyebrows. He had always been satisfied with report summaries, so he left all of the work to his retainers and simply took responsibility if anything went wrong.
"Based on our predictions, Louria should have overwhelmed Qua Toynian defense and taken over Rodenius, but… I've never heard of this 'Usea'...what do we know about them?"
"Their official name seems to be the 'Unified States of Eastern Eurasia'. After they joined in, the war turned around completely. Louria's fleet of five thousand ships was unilaterally defeated by Usea's navy. On the ground, their troops were annihilated without so much as a scratch on the Usean army.
Furthermore, based on witness reports, the Usean navy is mainly comprised of light cruisers in the 5000-ton size range and also has one 10000-ton heavy cruiser. There were also observations of two aircraft carriers in the 25000-ton size range. The cruisers were equipped with guns ranging from 100-130mm, but only single twin turrets were observed on the ships. The aircraft carriers were only observed with several rotary-wing aircraft on its deck."
"Were any fixed-wing aircraft spotted?"
"No sir, only rotary-wing aircraft of various designs. Locals did speak of iron sky dragons, but we do not know if those refer to rotary-wing aircraft or fixed-wing aircraft"
"Their technology seems to have developed rather strangely, although it's possible we haven't seen everything. I guess it's sufficient for enemies that they face though. They certainly do have us beat in the rotary-wing branch, as we are still developing ours."
"Their technology seems to be very different from those of this planet, so I'm guessing they were also sent here from another world…though, with their weaponry, their world was probably very peaceful. We need not fear them, though they might pose a slightly bigger threat than the other nations in this world."
The man lost interest in the topic.
"That reminds me, how's the Leifor subjugation fleet doing?"
"They should be ready for combat soon, but the admiral doesn't want to use aircraft carriers against the barbarians, so he's sending a single battleship."
"In this world, one battleship is enough to become a legend."
The superbattleship Grade Atlastar sailed east toward Leifor. Its enormous hull cut through the water, appearing to split the seas, and its massive superstructure stood like a great castle. 9 46cm guns were installed in three turrets, the front 6 aimed proudly ahead, towards the Leifor continent. The many smaller guns located along the middle of the ship pointed toward the sky like hedgehog spines. The larger secondaries fired newly-developed proximity-fused shells, which detonated as soon as an object flew close enough to the shell, dealing damage with shrapnel. The 46cm guns were also aimed using targeting radar, increasing accuracy on top of its immense firepower. This would become the ship that would singlehandedly bring down the superpower Leifor.
The Grade Atlastar met with the Leiforian fleet and air force, easily shooting down the wyverns with its impressive array of anti-air guns and destroying the wooden ships of the line with its cannons. With the destruction of the Leiforian fleet, the Atlastar sailed on to bombard the capital, Leiforia. The emperor perished in the bombardment and the entire country surrendered shortly after.
With that, the superbattleship became feared as the legendary ship that took down a superpower on its own. It was an event that shook the world.
While the Gra Valkans were asserting their rule over the Leiforians, the Useans began to form relations with the nations that were around them. However, they ran into an obstacle with the Parpaldia Empire. The Parpaldians treated the Usean ambassadors contemptuously, calling them and their country barbaric, and unworthy of having discussions with their officials. The Useans took offense, breaking off communications while they discussed how to respond.
