Chapter 2: Luz is a True Hero! Exploring the Forest!

"Luz?!" King shouted.

"Yeah, King?"

Luz tilted her head with a confused look on her face, and the slime on her shoulder looked at King with the same look as Luz. King kept stuttering with his words due to what he saw Luz turn into. The last time he saw his human, she had skin brownish with a soft texture and a body that wasn't see-through, but now her entire body was a shade of indigo with a texture that was sticky and slimy and a body that was completely see-through.

King stopped his stuttering, regained his composure and began to speak.

"What the hell happened to you? How are you like this? Did someone eat you and spat you back with your body still dissolving from the acid?!"

King freaked out as he ran around the newly turned human slime girl, ignoring the slime ball on her shoulder as he figured out why this happened to her and if she was dying. Luz put her hands in front of King to calm him down. She looked at her skin again and noticed that she was still made of slime. She worried a bit before calming down and returning to her worries later.

"What? No! Nobody ate me, King. It's sort of a long story, so…," Luz chuckled nervously.

She inhaled a large amount of air before going to the speed of sound and explaining everything that happened.

"Okay, so I was going around the library, and this librarian said that I needed to get a library pass, and he pointed me to the photo booth, and I went over there to get my picture taken. Then this guy was the camera, and his eye was the lens, and I thought that was weird, but he took my picture, and it spat out of his mouth. Now, My picture looked like I was being held at gunpoint, so I made it through and explored the library. It. Was. Amazing. I went from bottom to top and heard people talking about a forbidden section I went to, so I decided to check it out myself. And then…"

"You what?!"

King screamed out, cutting Luz's story in half after hearing about the forbidden section of the library. Luz gave King a confused look as his expression changed from mellow to frightened in seconds.

"Yeah, I went into this part of the library because I thought I could find something that would help-"

Luz was cut off mid-sentence by King putting his hand on her mouth, stopping her from saying anything else about the section. Luz grabbed his hand, removed it from her mouth, and noticed that King was frantically looking around him as if he was afraid that everyone was staring at them. Luz was about to ask why he was freaking out but was pulled away by King grabbing her arm and running down a vacant alleyway.

"King, why are you freaking out?" Luz asks the frightening demon.

King looked down both ends of the alleyway, making sure that there wasn't a single soul who wasn't listening to them. There wasn't anyone else there besides him and Luz. King looked back at Luz and spoke.

"Luz, you don't understand. You went into a forbidden section of the library, and everybody on the Boiling Isles knows that's a bad idea. It hides creatures and monsters that went extinct years ago and houses some of the most dangerous and powerful spells that could take down multiple demons at once."

"I thought you didn't like the library," Luz questioned smugly, only receiving a sigh from King.

"I don't like reading big books with big words in them. But look, Luz, be glad nobody heard or saw you enter that part because if they did, you better hope that humans could live a long time in prison here."

Luz could hear the seriousness in the demon's voice. She knew that something called the forbidden section would have something that would be dangerous but didn't think that it would have any consequences. King saw that Luz looked a bit down after hearing what he said. He went toward the slimly human and reached out his hand to pat her leg, only to pull back as part of her to stick to him. Finally, he wiped off the slime on the ground and looked up at her.

"Are you okay, at least?" King questions the slime girl.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I mean... it was painful to transform into this, and my insides are now slime, and I don't know if I can turn back to my normal self anymore…but as of right now, I'm great."

Luz changed from worried to happy within seconds. King was at least at ease that she was okay, besides her entire body being slime. But he did hear something from Luz that caught his attention: Transformation. King was about to ask Luz about the transformation and delivery but stopped when he noticed something was moving on her shoulder. He took a closer look and then realized what it was, and his fur started to rise, and a slight growl started to form.

"Get rid of that thing on your shoulder!" King screamed out.

King pointed toward Luz's shoulder, finally seeing the slime ball. The slime ball hissed like a cat, trying to scare off the demon dog as King barked back the slime. Luz was even more confused about why King was freaking out over a small, innocent little slime. Before she could say anything, the slime ball jumped off her shoulder and started morphing into a slime cat, with King getting down on all fours as he kept barking at it. They both arched their backs and jumped at each other. Luz got in between the two, picked up the slime, and placed a hand on King to stop him from attacking.

"No, I will not get rid of Squishy," Luz shouted as she put the slime cat close to her face.

King stopped barking after hearing what Luz had just said about the slime. He wiped off the slime and gave the human a curious look in an unimpressed tone.

"Squishy?"

"Yeah, I decided to keep it and give him a name," Luz cooed as she petted and kissed the slime cat.

The slime cat, or Squishy now, loves the attention that Luz is giving him and Squishy shoots a smug look toward the annoyed and somewhat jealous King. Squishy purred, and King groaned in annoyance.

"Okay, that's enough. If you said you're doing okay, then let's deliver this last package," King coldly stated.

He picked up the bag and threw it at Luz. She caught the bag, dropped Squishy on the ground and looked toward King, who was already walking ahead. It took Luz a few seconds to process before running to catch up with King as Squishy followed suit. As they walked down to their final destination, Squishy kept close to the human girl as he purred and rubbed himself on her leg. King kept ignoring the two until Squishy meowed out for King. After that, he ignored him and kept walking toward the location. But Squishy kept meowing louder and louder until King finally broke.

"Snout! Can you be quiet for one…" King turned around and shouted, only to stop mid-sentence as he saw Luz on the ground, clenching her stomach. King ran over toward the fallen human, and concern filled him.

"Luz, what's wrong?" King asked Luz, but no response came from her.

Luz looked down at her arms and saw that they were shakingly violently. She hugged herself tightly as everything around her began to go blurry. She looked around to see King and Squishy surrounding her, trying to figure out why Luz felt like this. She kept on tossing and turning until a sensation began to overtake her. She looked down to find that her intestines and flesh began to reappear.

"I'm back to normal?!" Luz said in shock.

King and luz were speechless at what just happened. Her body went back to its fleshy, non-sticky self. King pinched Luz on the leg, and she reacted to the pain. Luz was able to feel the pinch. Squishy just sat and watched King and Luz, checking to see if she was human again.

"What? How?" Luz questions herself.

"I don't know, but maybe you should talk about this with Eda," King stated as he picked up the bag and dragged it on the ground toward Luz.

Luz picked up the bag and continued. As they walked, Luz was a bit nervous about how Eda would react to Luz picking up a slime creature, exploring a part of the library that could send anyone away to jail, and turning herself into a slime girl. Her mind wouldn't stop thinking about the consequences that could happen. Once the trio made it to the destination, they were all shocked at the place. This wasn't like your regular building or even a mansion, but it was a giant golden castle with towers on the edge of it with the sunlight illuminating it, which helped makes it more tempting for the young human. Luz was almost watering at the mouth just from seeing it.

"Wow! This is massive, it's wonderful, and it-" Luz joyfully stated, only for her to be cut off by King.

"Bright as hell. Let's drop it off before I go blind just from looking at it," King groaned as he tried to block the light from the castle.

Luz, King, and Squishy walk toward the castle, with Squishy and King feeling uneasy just from looking at it. Luz pressed the golden doorbell, and a loud ringed filled the air, scaring the two creatures behind Luz. Luz looked down and got scared once she saw the giant doors open.

"Hello?" Luz cried out.

The voice of Luz echoed throughout the empty halls of the castle. King looked up and noticed Luz had an expression, "I'm going to go into the castle now." Before Luz could put one foot in the door, her leggings were pulled by King and Squishy. She got down to their level and asked what was wrong with them.

"Luz, I don't think it's a good idea to go into a castle like this." King upsettingly stated as he tugged on the human's clothing, and Squishy pulled on leggings as well. "See, even the snout ball agrees with me."

Squishy shoot King a glare, and King sends a glare back. King then went on about why it was a terrible idea to go into a castle like this, but Luz ignored the two and ventured into the castle, leaving Squishy and King outside the doors.

"Luz! Wait!" King shouted.

He and Squishy ran inside to catch up to Luz and jumped as they heard the doors slam shut behind them. They looked back to the door and continued walking until they caught up with Luz. Once they exited the tunnel, Luz was in awe of an even more extensive library than The Bonesborough Library. Luz spun around to look thoroughly at the library and stopped whenever she saw a portrait of a wizard. Soon, the same wizard from the portrait stepped out of the hallway and smiled at the group.

"Magical Wizard?! An even bigger library?! Today is getting better." Luz happily stated.

"My oh my, what do we have here?" The Wizard said.

He walked down the stairs and toward Luz, King and Squishy, who decided to hide behind Luz's legs. He inspected Luz closely and was in awe of a human on the boiling isles. While inspecting her, Luz just looked around his library, and King stood a couple of feet away as Squishy hid behind King.

"Yes. Yes, I am a human, and I have a package for you, Mr…

"Please, call me Adegast, young lady, and you must be Eda's newest apprentice. Something about you seems intriguing. The eyes I'm staring into hold curiosity, the knowledge to learn more about this island. Perhaps you wouldn't mind taking a seat and having lunch with me as I help you out on your journey," Adegast chuckles as he waves his hands out in front of him.

A table filled with pastries and other sweets with tea that pours itself. And with that, Luz was sold on talking with him. But she felt something tugging on her leggings, King and Squishy. One can only meow to warn her about this guy, and the other can talk. So, King climbed up Luz and grabbed her by the ear.

"Luz, don't," King whispered into the human's ears.

Luz said that he should calm down and trust this guy. He didn't attack them, eat them, or both simultaneously. King shook his head as he went on about why everything was wrong and creepy about this guy. From having glitter in his pants and animal in his bear to saying that wizards, in general, usually have more of a bad rep than wild witches.

"I think we should leave now. Snout ball seems to agree with me."

Squishy nodded in agreement with King's argument before shooting him a glare. Luz patted his head and pointed toward the table, knowing the demon's one weakness.

"There are scones on the table," Luz pointed out.

And with that, King immediately jumped off Luz's shoulder and onto the table, engulfing the scones without a second thought.

"We would love to have tea with you, Adegast." Luz happily stated as she walked over and sat down in the chair.

Squishy shook his head as he jumped on the armrest of Luz's chair and lay down. Adegast was surprised to see a slime out in the isles. He wanted to ask the girl why she or it followed her all the way here, but Luz began to speak as she noticed Luz a small table filled with potions.

"You sell potions as well?"

Adegast regained his composure and answered the human's question.

"Of course, Eda thought she was the only one that sold potions. Although mine is a smaller business than Eda's, I still have a few good customers here and there. But let's not talk about that. Instead, let's talk about you, human. Why did you come to the Boiling Isles? Did you come here by mistake, or did destiny bring you here?"

Luz sat down for tea after hearing about her being on the isles and her true purpose. She looked down at her tea only to see her saddened face and a sigh escaping her mouth.

"I wish it was destiny. I thought if I went through a magical door, I would find myself in a magical place filled with wonder and full of life. But it feels like I'm the weird one, just like back home. And I thought if I lived with a powerful witch, I would be learning how to perform all those types of magic that everyone is capable of, but I'm just being used for running errands for her."

"Oh, you poor girl. You know… I have something in here that you may find to help you become what you want. A quest!"

Luz's head perked up when she heard the word 'quest.' She jumped out of her seat and toward the wizard with a huge smile, dropping her tea and spilling it on the ground. Then, she ignored the mess and faced the wizard.

"A quest?!" Luz enthusiastically asked.

Adegast laughed at the human's enthusiasm as he signaled her to calm down and allow him to finish his sentence. Luz did that, and Adegast continued speaking.

"Yes, but this isn't just any old quest. The quest is meant for a young human that the prophecy has spoken of throughout the ages, hoping for it to come true."

Adegast's telling of the prophecy caused the human girl to get stars in her eyes, grab the map from the wizard's hand, and scroll through the map as quickly but efficiently as possible. However, King was annoyed with this wizard's spouting words about chosen ones and prophecy. Squishy agreed that this was also stupid, proceeding to get up and grab Luz's attention while King dragged the bag and tossed it at the wizard's feet.

"Well, thanks for the food and here's your order. See ya." King sarcastically said.

The wizard looked sad whenever he heard King say they had to leave so soon. Luz looked saddened as well as she slowly walked toward the door. Before she could take another step, the wizard called out for her.

"Human! Before you go, I need to ask you this one question. Are you worthy of this quest you are about to embark on?" Adegast curiously asked the human girl.

Luz's head picked up, and she had a huge confident smile. She turned toward the wizard, shouting at the top of her lungs.

"Yes! I am worthy! I am the chosen one." Luz confidently stated, grasping the map in her hand as she jolted for the door with King and Squishy following her. It took some time, but the trio made it back home. Luz, King and a hidden Squishy walked into the house as King kept talking about how that wizard was just plain weird. Eda heard from the kitchen and saw Luz and King back.

"Hey, Kids, how did the delivery go?" Eda happily questions the duo.

Luz ran past Eda, hoping she didn't see Squishy and the map she had hidden in her bag, running up the stairs and slamming her door shut. Eda pouted, looking toward King, who was getting ready to sleep. She asked the demon king about the day and deliveries, but all she got was them immediately doing their separate things. She walked over toward King and asked the same question.

"Why don't you talk to Luz about the deliveries? I'm going to take a nap." King tediously stated as he soon fell asleep.

"Lazy bone," Eda said annoyingly.

Eda turned around and made her way up the stairs toward Luz's room and was about to knock on the door, but she heard Luz talking to herself or someone. From Luz's view, she was packing items up in her back, from a notepad and pencils to something to keep her energy up. She looked over toward her book, picked it up and stared at it for a while.

"All right, Squishy, this…this right here will help me finally become a true witch. This map will show me where this staff will be, which means I'll be able to use magic." Luz explained happily.

Squishy gave Luz a concerned look, worrying for her new master. Squishy purred up her leg, trying to make her reconsider the quest. Luz petted the slime and reassured it that everything was okay.

"Come on. I'll be fine. After all, I did learn something new that will be useful to me if I get myself in a pinch," Luz chuckles as she kneels to pet Squishy more.

After a few pets, the door slammed wide open with an angry expression on her. Luz immediately jumped up and faced Eda, sweat dripping down her. She quickly looked behind and noticed that Squishy was gone without a trace. She let out a sigh of relief as Eda began to speak.

"Kid, who the hell are you talking to?" Eda questions Luz.

"No one! Myself! Um, Hooty." Luz frantically flailed her arms around, trying to cover up her tracks.

Hooty gasped as he extended his neck to Luz's window with a big smile. He never thought that someone wanted to talk with him.

"Wow, you were talking to me?! Well, you know I think that..."

Eda slams her fist on the wall, cracking it a bit which harms Hooty in the process. Hooty looked at Eda with anger.

"Quiet down, Hooty. I know she wasn't talking to you."

"I just wanted to talk with someone. Sheesh, Hoot."

Hooty grunted as he slowly made his way back down the front door. Eda sighed at Luz's attempt at a cover-up. She was about to ask the same question again when she saw something slimly on her shoulder.

"Hmm…"

Eda grabs Luz's shoulder and picks off something sticky on her. She pressed it together, smelled it and tasted it. After a bit, her eyes widened as she knew something was off, spitting it out and scowling at the human. Luz went pale when Eda grabbed her by the shirt, bringing her close to her.

"This doesn't look or taste like abomination goo. Kid, where did you two exactly go that dealt with this kind of stuff?" Eda asked straight forward.

Luz was freaking out at this point. She remembers what King said about talking about the whole slime and transformation thing with her, but she is still afraid to say anything to Eda since she could use a spell on her or, worse… kick her out of the house. So, she quickly doted her eyes around, trying to find a way to avoid her talking about Squishy. Luz nervously chuckles, hoping this excuse will work on Eda.

"Well… I went to the… library because I wanted to… learn more about the boiling isles and their secrets."

"Okay, then, what do you have in your hand? You stole from the library. I can't lie. They have some good stuff in there."

Eda pointed out the map in Luz's hand. Before Luz could say anything, Eda snatched it from her hands and inspected it.

"No, I got this from one of your clients that we delivered to. He was the last person on the list, and he said that this place holds a powerful staff that I could use because I'm the chosen one."

Eda's face turned into disappointment once she heard Luz talking about being the chosen one and the map she was given. But then, she sighed as she gave the human the bad news.

"Sorry to disappoint you, kiddo, but this map is bogus. There's no celestial lake or something called a celestial staff. It probably would have been stolen ages ago, by me mostly."

"…"

Luz looked down at the ground in disappointment. The map was fake, meaning that she couldn't use a staff, which meant… humans couldn't use magic. She slumped onto the floor, curling up into a ball. Eda could feel the human's sadness within her, trying to figure out what she could do to make her feel less sad about the whole fake map.

"Kid, listen, I know you wanted to believe that you're some kind of chosen one, but-"

"Can I just be alone for a bit?" Luz sadly asked.

Eda listened to the human's request, leaving room for the human to wallow in. She went downstairs, thinking about this customer that gave her human the map and lies. She looked over to find King sleeping away on the couch.

"King, wake up, you lazy bum," Eda called out King. "My last client that you two went to. Who was he exactly, and why did he give her a map about something that doesn't exist."

King kept on sleeping as Eda was getting annoyed that he had fallen fast asleep. Finally, fed up with King not listening to her, she picked up by the collar and dropped in on the couch. King woke up in rage.

"Hey!" King cried out.

"Shut up. Client. Details." Eda asked King once again.

"He was some kind of wizard that had what every wizard had, a long beard, glitter, and being overall a creep." King sleepily responded.

King answered Eda's question and then went back to sleep. Eda sat down on the couch with King, trying to figure out exactly who he was and why he would give Luz a fake map. She sat there for a while until she heard meowing. Eda perked up her head from the sound.

"King? Did you just meow?" Eda questioned King.

King didn't respond, making Eda more annoyed as the meowing continued. She cried out for the sound to quiet down, but that didn't work, only making the meowing even louder than before. She places her hands on her head to block out the sound, closes her eyes and lies down on the couch to ignore it. The meowing only got close to her until she felt something land on her chest, something thing sticky and cold.

"What the-?! A slime is in my house." Eda cried out.

Eda jumped off the couch, and Squishy landed in front of her. She was freaking out that a slime was in her house. She created a little circle in the air with fire coming out of it, pointing it toward the slime. Squishy jumped around the room, avoiding the fireballs from Eda.

"Stay still, you snout ball!" Eda screamed out as King slept through the whole thing.

Eda kept creating multiple fire spells, hoping that she would hit them, but Squishy was too fast and nimble for her. Finally, Squishy jumped onto King and Eda, preparing to fire at it with full force. King groaned as he stopped Eda from firing that fireball at him and Squishy.

"Eda, stop before you fire that at me. This is Luz's new friend, ~Squishy." King sarcastically said as Squishy sat on the couch.

Eda was dumbfounded but knew Luz had lied about bringing something else into her house.

"What? Luz brought this thing into my house." Eda screamed out.

Squishy kept meowing toward Eda and King as if he wanted them to listen to them. Eda slowly walked toward the slime before it started signaling her to come upstairs. Eda followed the slime as Squishy stopped in front of Luz's door. Eda slammed the door wide open.

"Kid. I need to ask you about the client and why you brought a snout ball?" Eda called out to Luz, but no response. "Kid?"

Eda looked around the room, looking for her human, but nothing came up until she heard Squishy meowing. She turned her head toward the noise to find Squishy sitting on an opened window.

"Oh no."
