The festival that Smith and Frollo went down to was the Festival of Fools. Meanwhile, Aang, Katara, and Sokka were down in the festival simply watching. For a while things went great. There were magicians, balloons, dancers, and other kinds of things, all of which Frollo despised. Like his brother, he too considered such behavior as savagery. Nonetheless, he was a public official, so it was his obligation to attend. He set up a tent and watched the day's events while Smith, who was now Captain of the Guard, was next to him on horseback while the city's guards were posted at various spots around the festival.
Then, Aang accidentally bumped into a guy.
"Hey!", he yelled.
"Oops, sorry", Aang said. However, as he backed away, he bumped into another guy. The guy fell down and fell into someone else. Then they fell into someone else. Several more people fell into each other and they all fell down. Eventually, a guy fell into a torch. The torch fell onto a small tent which then caught on fire.
While a few people focused on extinguishing the fire and containing the flames, everyone else looked at Aang in anger. Aang attempted to apologize, but it was too late. Everyone then started throwing food at him and laughing, now wanting nothing more than to humiliate him. To add to it, they tied him up to prevent him from running and put him up on a stage for everyone to see.
Katara and Sokka made their way through the crowd attempting to rescue Aang. Eventually, a man pulled out a whip. However, before being able to strike Aang, Katara grabbed it from the man and got in front of Aang. Immediately, everyone stopped.
"You there! Gypsy! Get down at once!", Frollo said.
"Yes, sir. Just as soon as free this kid", Katara said.
"I forbid it"
Katara then pulled out a Water Tribe-looking knife and cut Aang loose.
"How dare you defy me!"
"I heard about you. You speak of justice but are cruel to those in most need of your help!"
"Silence!"
"Justice!"
Katara and Aang then got down off the stage.
"Mark my words, gypsy. You will pay for this insolence."
"Then appears we were about to crown the wrong fool. The only fool I see is you." Katara then threw a crown in Frollo's direction.
"Captain Smith, arrest her."
Smith snapped his fingers and guards closed in on Katara. She then grabbed a smoke pellet she had earlier bought from a dancer and throw it to the ground. When the smoke came out she quickly escaped and left no trace.
"Witchcraft...", Frollo said misunderstanding the science behind the pellet.
With Katara disappeared, all eyes went back Aang. Covered in food, about to be whipped, and everyone angry at him, he nervously and scared beyond belief ran out of the festival and into Notre Dame de Paris. The festival was held out front in the cathedral's square, so it was the closest thing to him.
Eventually, Katara also went into the cathedral. Smith saw her and secretly followed her in.
As he walked up behind her, she sensed he was there. She then threw him around in front of him while taking his sword.
"You", she said as she pointed the sword at him.
"Easy. Easy. I just shaved this morning."
"Oh really? You missed a spot."
"Now just calm down. Just give me a chance to apologize."
"For what?"
Smith then used his leg to sweep Katara's, while taking his sword back.
"That for example"
"You sneaky son of a-"
"Ah, ah, ah. Watch it. You're in a church."
"Are always this charming or am I just lucky?"
Katara then grabbed a candleholder and started swinging it at Smith, while blocked such moves with his sword.
"Ah, candlelight, privacy, music. Can't think of a better place for hand to hand combat. You fight almost as well as a man.", he said.
"Funny. I was going to say the same thing about you."
"That's hitting a little below the belt, don't you think?"
"No, this is"
She aimed for crotch, which he blocked. She then swung upwards, hitting him in the face.
"Touché. Um...permit me. I'm Smith. And you are..."
"Is this an interrogation?"
"It's called an introduction."
"You're arresting me?"
"Not as long as you're in here, I can't."
"Hmm. You're not at all like the other soldiers."
"...Thank you."
"So if you not arresting me, what do you want?"
"I'd settle for your name."
"...Katara"
After a few seconds of silence, Frollo and the rest of the guards came in through the front door.
"Good work, captain. Now arrest her.", he said.
Smith turned around to Katara.
"Claim santuary...Say it", he whispered.
"I'm waiting captain."
"I'm sorry sir. She claimed sanctuary. There's nothing I can do."
"Then drag her outside and-"
Suddenly, the cathedral's archdeacon came walking towards them.
"Frollo, you will not touch her." He then turned to Katara. "Don't worry. Minister Frollo learned years ago to respect the sanctity of the church."
Frollo then pretended to walk away before hiding behind a post. As the archdeacon escorted Smith out, Frollo snuck up behind Katara and put her arm behind her back.
"You think you've outwitted me. But I'm a patient man. And gypsies don't do well inside stone walls." He then creepily sniffed her hair.
"What are you doing?", Katara asked.
"I was just imagining a rope around that beautiful neck."
"I know what you were imagining.", she said as she pushed him off her.
"Such a clever witch. So typical of your kind to twist the truth to cloud the mind with unholy thoughts." He then started walking towards the door. "Well no matter. You've chosen a magnificent prison. But it is a prison nonetheless. Set one foot outside, and you're mine."
He then closed the front door.
