" You have a mall 10 minutes away from this hospital, there on the second floor you have a store that sells clothes and all the highlighted stuff, it's called The Baby and Me" The doctor replied to a visibly anxious Bucky, who rushed out of her cabin after she finished giving the directions, but not before whispering a barely audible and breathless "thanks".

When Bucky arrived at said shop, he genuinely felt like a deer in the headlights.

There was so much variety of every single thing that he couldn't even imagine. So he walked over to the counter and handed his list to the shop assistant.

" I need all these highlighted stuff… if you could help me gather them?" Bucky asked the middle aged worker, whose eyeballs got rounder than meatballs with every word that the man spoke with the most insane puppy eyes that that lady had ever witnessed in her life.

" Maternity gowns, nursing bras,.. but sir... what size is your woman?" The worker asked .

'' What do you mean? I don't know, isn't it specified on the list?" Bucky replied, visibly shaken,

"No, sir…"

"Don't say that…"

"I'll show you the different sizes and I'm sure when you see the garments you can choose the right size for your wife" She suggested, walking along with Bucky towards the section of the new mothers.

"Well… she's not my wife"

"Your girlfriend?"

" No... no…"

"Your sister perhaps?"

"No, not at all… I don't even know her name. I've just been given this task by a friend … hum… for his wife" The brunet partially lied, not really being prepared for these kinds of questions.

" Why don't you call him and ask what size his woman uses? "

"I don't think he will pick up my phone " Bucky lied again, this time downheartedly.

The brunet's mood lit up when his eyes fell on a peach toned knee length gown, which he picked up and eyed it for a couple of seconds…dearly.

"I think this will fit her" He said, adoringly staring at the knee length maternity gown and giving it to the lady, after imagining the nameless mother in that particular garment smiling shyly and lowering his eyes.

After eyeballing the shopping for the Unnamed lady, they passed to the baby's section, which was done rather quickly due to the lack of customers in the store. When he was done, he carried all the things back to the hospital, where he showed his purchased goods proudly to the gynecologist who selected some of the clothes for the mother and the baby and gave the rest to Bucky.

" Nurse, these are for room 109" The doctor ordered the nurse and left with Bucky in order to carry out all the paperwork so she could just discharge her patient.

The doctor's aid entered room 109 with her hands occupied with a stack of clothes and placed them on one of the unoccupied tables while the unnamed woman was pleasantly busy breastfeeding her child.

"I believe that the postpartum nurse explained everything about the care of yourself and your newborn baby?" The nurse said, approaching the woman, carrying the baby's first clothes and diaper in her hands.

"Who brought these?" The lady alarmingly asked, puzzled, taking her eyes off from her little one to finally look at the professional.

"The man who saved you that night and brought you here, Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes, he is an avenger. He's the one who paid for all your medical bills"

" He paid them, he gave money for me…he bought me" She murmured in a lost manner as her memory kicked in, and something familiar caressed the back of her numb mind.

" No…no... he did not buy you or your son. He lives in the Stark Tower with the other avengers, and he will take you there. Trust me, it's the safest place you could imagine in this whole city and I have heard really good things about him . I even think that it's safe for you to be there because... you never know… when your baby's father…" the nurse assured after taking a seat on the patient's bed, staring at her big round honey kissed eyes.

"My baby has no father. That man is not his father… he will never be. My son only has a mother, that's it" The lady protectively cut the nurse's speech with an agitated tone, holding her baby tighter than before as he suckled from her breast.

" Who was he? How many years did you live with him?"

"I've said it before, I don't know" The woman replied, visibly disturbed by the nurse's endless queries.

The nurse's inner curiosity was running wild at this point as she eyed all the injuries and scars of the women's chest feeling the urge to murder someone, the one who had tortured this young innocent woman to the point where she doesn't even remember her name, age or basically... anything about herself.

"Would you like to dress your baby?" The nurse asked sweetly, smiling, to which the woman replied with a sympathetic nod.

When it was her turn to get dressed, the lady was helped largely by the nurse as her limbs were still in great pain due to all the injuries she had suffered and the weakness caused by the childbirth.

After all the bureaucratic fuzz was over, Bucky entered the room 109 carrying a hand luggage on one of his shoulders containing all his purchases for the lady and hung a newborn's backpack with all the baby's essentials on his back, accompanied by a nurse who came with a wheelchair for the woman who was lost in her thoughts seated on the edge of the bed, cradling her baby in her arms.

"Miss… Sergeant Barnes is here to take you home" the nurse spoke, sending chills to the woman's body, making her lift up her eyes from her little one to stare at Bucky, who greeted the woman's amber eyes with his own, aiming to calm the woman.

20 years ago... a child had heard these words being said to her in a similar fashion after which her life changed forever. That child was... the grown-up woman who was currently holding a baby in her eternally tortured limbs. But the female knew... she had nowhere to go. She knew nothing much about this man... besides the fact that this man standing a couple of feet away from her had taken her from the streets and provided medical attention to her and her prematurely born baby. Had given her clean clothes to wear, had made it possible for her to feel less pain in her deepest wounds.

Accepting her fate and trusting this unknown man, she was being carried away from her room to his car in the wheelchair by The nurse, who later helped the lady to get into it too and saw the woman getting further away down the road in the white vehicle.
