After one week, Aang, Katara, and Sokka decided to escape the cathedral. They went up to the roof at night and decided to improvise their attempt to get down.
"How will we get down?", Katara asked.
"...Nope, screw this. I'm going down the stairs.", Sokka said.
"Sokka-"
By then Sokka was gone.
"He'll be fine, Katara. He's just afraid of heights."
They both then chuckled.
"Yeah. So how are getting down from here?"
"Grab on."
"Why, what are you going to do?"
"Climb down"
"Aang, it's very dangerous from all the way up here."
"I've climbed many things higher than this. It won't be that hard. All you have to do is trust me."
"Well...I mean..."
"You do trust me, don't you?"
"Aang, of course I trust you."
"Good. Now get on my back."
Katara then got on Aang's back and wrapped her arms around him. He then climbed down a few ledges and then started swinging from one statue to another. Then they were off the bell tower and onto the main roof.
"Wow. That went better than I expected."
"That's what I thought-"
Then, the metal roof shim they were standing on suddenly came loose and slid down the roof while they were still on it. It slid to the bottom of the roof, then down one of the many fountain slides until it reached the spout. Aang and Katara grabbed onto a gargoyle statue to stop themselves while the shim flew past them, through the air and over some nearby buildings. It then made a crashing noise in the distance, which distracted some of guards that were down on the ground. They all ran towards the noise.
This gave Aang and Katara enough time to climb down some more, getting them closer to the ground. Then a guard came walking towards them. They then hid behind a statue of Saint Denis until the guard was gone.
"Let's go", Katara said as she stepped on the ground.
"Where?"
"There's a place Sokka found when we first arrived. It's called the Court of Miracles."
"How will we find it?"
"He has a map."
Then, Sokka appeared down the street waving his arms. As Katara started running towards him, Aang was right about climb down off the ledge and join them. However, roughly half a dozen soldiers came walking towards him. He was forced to hide again. Luckily, none of them saw him. He waited until they were gone. However, by that time, Katara and Sokka were also gone. Realizing he couldn't stay on that ledge forever, knowing that soldiers were everywhere, and not knowing which direction the Court of Miracles was, he had no choice but to climb back up to the top and go back inside the cathedral.
As he got to the top, a hand grabbed him. It was Smith.
"Hi there. I'm looking for the gypsy girl. Have you seen her?", he asked.
Thinking of Smith as a threat, Aang immediately got up and pushed him towards a stairwell. He then grabbed a torch and began swinging it in front of Smith.
"Whoa, whoa. Easy.", Smith said.
"No soldiers! This is sanctuary! Get out!"
"Wait! All I wanted was to-"
"Go!"
"I mean you guys no harm."
"Grrr. Go!"
Smith then pulled out his sword and pinned the torch against the wall. Aang then grabbed Smith.
"Alright. But just know I didn't mean to trap you guys here. But it was the only way to save your lives. Will you tell the others that?...Will you?"
"I will. If you go."
"Alright I'll go. Now would you put me down please?"
Aang apparently had Smith lifted up the entire time. He was surprisingly strong for his age. He then put Smith down before he left.
Now alone in the cathedral, Aang began thinking about how safe Katara and Sokka could be. Not knowing what the future might bring, he also began wondering if he and Katara would ever end up together. There had been some implications beforehand that they might, however it was mostly forgotten when they were transported to this new world. He wanted to finally be with her before it was too late. It was all he wanted.
Meanwhile, in the Palace of Justice, Frollo began crumbling under his lustful feelings for Katara that he had developed the day she entered the cathedral. He claimed to be a righteous man. However, his new fantasies of Katara were overtaking him.
At the same time he was condemning her for being a "gypsy". There was no real evidence that she was one. After all she was from a different world, something nobody knew. He just assumed she was because of her darker shaded skin and unique Water Tribe clothing. Aside from that Frollo's attitudes towards gypsies was rooted simple racism. The gypsies were normal people for the most part that didn't do anything wrong. But it didn't stop Frollo from having a preconceived notion about them.
Frollo began begging the Virgin Mary to "save" him from a "spell" that Katara had allegedly put him under. He demanded that she either face the fires of hell or be his and his alone.
Just then a soldier knocked on his door.
"Minister Frollo, the gypsy and her friends have escaped", he said.
"What?"
"They're nowhere in the cathedral. They're gone."
"But how?...Nevermind. Get out."
The soldier then left.
"I'll find them. I'll find them if I have to burn down all of Paris", he said.
