Hat Kid never thought that trying to find two gods were going to be as hard as it was currently. Finding Mono had turned out to contribute nothing to the mission. Over a month ago, Hat Kid had found the child hiding out in 4Chan. The boy didn't have much to offer Hat Kid in her search for Susie and Kyle. He detailed how Susie did something to take down Kyle along with themself. It only reaffirmed that the two gods would be found together which didn't help.
As the year went by, the case went from cold to freezing. Every day was sluggish drudgery, filled with checking up on sources and informants. The bitter taste of disappointment felt almost constant for her. She desperately wanted to leave the case but Banhammer wouldn't let her. The poisonous feeling of frustration built up within here towards Banhammer for not realizing that Susie and Kyle cannot be found. The frustration felt almost as if Kyle was influencing her, taunting her for trying to complete Banhammer's impossible task. Today she was standing outside an apartment door, her train of thought wandering to her situation than what she had to do. She sighed and knocked.
"Come In."
Hat Kid walked through and found herself inside a pitch-black room. There were dotted lines outlining the edges of the room. Hat Kid didn't see the person she was looking for immediately but she noticed a small white square bouncing around the room.
"I Thought I Told You Not To Come Here Unless I Had Information."
"Well do you Pong?"
"If I Did, I Would Have Contacted You About It. It Is Rude To Come In Without Letting Me Know."
The white square bounced closed towards Hat Kid. Its words were punctuated by chiptune notes.
"Do You Know The Last Person That Came Here Unannounced Left The Door Open And I Bounced Out Of My House! It Took Me Months To Get Back!"
"I had not come here to talk about why you don't like visitors," muttered Hat Kid rudely.
"Oh, You Don't Think I Know That?" snapped Pong as it bounced off a couch.
"I'm just surprised that someone like you didn't have any information. For the first time might I add. You're the Justice Department's top informant."
The white square bounced around aimlessly, Hat Kid didn't know whether it was flattered or insulted.
"So What Did You Come Here For... If It Is Not Information..."
Hat Kid gave a small smirk.
"I want to know how you get your information..." said Hat Kid slowly, "You barely leave your apartment, yet you know about half of what's going on in the internet."
This time Hat Kid knew exactly what Pong was feeling. Its bounce started to intensify and its speed became faster.
"Why Would You Think I Would Share That With Anyone?! Especially You Nosy Officers!"
Hat Kid forced herself to calm down. She had expected this reaction.
"You don't leave your apartment often enough to have connections. Everybody knows that. But what I think is that you have something. Something that many don't have."
That seemed to calm down Pong. Its speed slowed down.
"Fine... I'll Tell You. It's Not Like Something You Could Have Easily... Or Could Use To Find Your Own Information..."
Hat Kid relaxed slightly.
"As You Know Hat Kid, I Am Quite Old. Back In The Days When The Boundary Between What We See And The Binary And Source Code Was Thin. The Very Code Beneath and Within Us Resonates With Very Few. Those Who Have Survived Until Now Know About It. It's The Disruptions That Happen On The Surface World That Affect The Binary Code That We Are Attuned To."
Hat Kid felt disappointment well up inside of her. None of this was useful.
"But There Are Limits To Those Abilities..." said Pong, "The Effect Of Those Who Are Even Older Than Me Are An Enigma. That Is Why I Couldn't Sense Many Things That Relate To Those Gods. Susie And Kyle's Conflict. Rule 34's Entrapment In Ayano's Cycle Of Non-Reciprocity."
Pong gave a rueful chuckle which sounded like a cascade of chiptune scales.
"Looking Back On What I Said, It Was A Whole Load Of Nothing..."
But Hat Kid didn't think so. She slowly got up and left the apartment, not bothering to close the door. Her own thoughts and excitement roared above Pong's shrieks.
She knew exactly where to go.
