' This is Berk. For generations, it was Vikings against dragons. The battles were ferocious… one day, everything changed. '
Hiccup is flying with his dominant mate Fannar; in a swing by Hiccup's bosom is his one-month-old baby, fast asleep, and his full dragon daughter. Besides Hiccup
'I met Fannar, and we've shown people here that instead of fighting dragons, we can ride them... live with them, and even train them. But in my case, mate with them and have their children.'
The family of four then lands on a sea stack where Astrid, Fishlegs, Snotlout, Ruffnut, Tuffnut, and their dragons are waiting for them.
"Okay, guys. Best trick competition. Who's up first?" Hiccup asked while getting out his notebook and moving his plait away from his face.
"Uh…" Fishlegs said, but as he was about to talk, he was interrupted by Snotlout. Hiccup's ex-fiance and cousin.
"Sweet baby Thor in a thunderstorm, go," Astrid said in frustration as Snotlout kept talking, and by shouting, he woke up the babe in his swing.
"It's okay, Baldur." Hiccup cooed and, without warning, lifted his tunic (he stole it from his father as his clothing didn't fit well) and allowed Baldur to feed him. In contrast, Fannar lifted his wings for Hiccup's privacy, and the total born night fury hatchling crawled up her mother's clothing, laid her little body around Hiccup's neck, and fell asleep.
" I'm sorry, my king, for my rider woke up the hatchling," Stormfly said apologetically.
" I understand," Fannar said with a slight smile. "Snotlout was trying my patience, and you did not have to apologise."
Hookfang listens to the exchange between his king and second-in-command and decides that his Rider deserves discipline. He starts by plummeting the sea stack, scaring an unprepared Snotlout, and then pulls off many stunts, endangering his already terrified Rider into almost wetting himself.
Hookfang circles back around and lands on the sea stack with a thud.
"I'm alive….?" Snotlout said, stuttering while touching his body, including his own feet, and then lifted his hands and exclaimed. "I'm alive!"
The humans (apart from Hiccup as Fannar's wing is still hiding Hiccup as Balder has yet to finish feeding.) I stared blankly at Snotlout while the dragons laughed as Hookfang gave them a smug look.
"It's my turn!" Fishlegs said with excitement and climbed on Meatlug. "Ready, Meatlug? Here we go!" Meatlug takes off, flies around in a simple circle, then lands.
"Yes! New personal best!" Fishlegs praised Meatlug and hugged her, and in turn, Meatlug licked her rider with total happiness. By this point, Baldur finished feeding on Hiccup's breasts and smiled at the others. "What have I missed?" Hiccup asked.
"I'll tell you when we get back to the nest," Fannar answered and gently licked Baldur's face as he had some milk stuck on his tiny lips and nose. But then he turned as he heard arguing and couldn't help but snort as it was the twins as usual.
"Guys, same dragon." Hiccup said as he gently moved his arms to the side to help Baldur go back to sleep.
"Oh, right," Tuffnut said dumbly, and both twins climbed onto their dragon named Barf and Belch and took off, but then the Twins began to argue about which way they should go, which caused them by the skin of their teeth into a different sea stack. Barf and Belch suddenly fling the Twins off their necks and high into the air. Barf and Belch then catch the Twins before they can splat, fling them up and back onto their channels. They then land on the sea stack.
Astrid then decided it was her turn as she saw Hiccup leaning against Fannar, trying not to fall asleep as he was up all night with Baldur and Bergljot, who decided it was the best time to start practicing her flying and sprouting fire.
Astrid and Stormfly shoot off the sea stack and fly toward the ocean.
Okay, Stormfly, tail flip!" Astrid instructed Stormfly, and Stormfly then flipped her tail into the water.
"Now twirl!"
The Nadder then barrel rolls, shooting forward.
"Quick, upwards spiral."
They finish their routine with a final spin, high into the air.
As she lands back on the sea stack, the other Riders congratulate her performance.
Astrid then turns and gestures to Hiccup, meaning it's now his turn. Hiccup then placed the babe in the swing and the hatchling in his arms and, with help from Fannar's snout, managed to get onto his mate's back.
"Looks like we've got our work cut out for us there."
Fannar makes a vertical takeoff, then dives down the sea stack to the ocean. Hiccup pulls up at the last second and shoots forward at breakneck speed. The two mates skillfully swerve in and out through the maze of sea stacks before coming across two conjoined rocks. As soon as they get close enough, Hiccup unhooks his metal leg and jumps onto the bridge between the two rocks (not without placing the hatchling dragon on Fannar's back) while Fannar glides underneath. Hiccup runs across the rocky bridge, then jumps onto Fannar on the other side. The two mates rocket toward the sky, leaving the other Riders amazed. Fannar and Bergljot then shoot out multiple plasma blasts, which explode like fireworks.
"They're still the best," Fishlegs said in awe as he saw the mates leave for the village as it was nearing naptime for the family of four.
"Yep, dragons. Most people on Berk would say life here is better since we made peace with them. Unfortunately, dragons are still, well, dragons."
Riders of Berk
When the two mates and children land in the village, they see chaos,
including a group of Yaks hunted by a Gronckle, a couple of Terrible Terrors stealing chicken from a woman, Deadly Nadder refusing to leave a man's roof, and Monstrous Nightmare stealing a sack of Apples from another man.
Another Deadly Nadder is hunting a group of chickens, running under a clothesline, and stealing a woman's undergarments, waking Hiccup from his tiredness.
Suddenly, the villagers start scattering and running for cover while Fannar, knowing what it is, swiftly runs towards the nearest shelter (while gently placing Hiccup and their children on his back). Hiccup's father and council members stood there, and both used their shields as umbrellas.
"Hey, Mulch. Hey, Bucket. Sorry about the, uh–" Hiccup was about to say until he smelt something horrid and knew Baldur made a mess in his diaper alongside the dragon poo.
"Every day at three. They're regular, at least. A tip of the cap." Bucket said as he was observing the dragons.
"Better than the days when it was "kill or be slain." Hey, we've got some fish for that father of yours. Bucket, give the boy the cod." Mulch said with dry humour.
The bucket holds up an empty sack with a torn-out bottom.
"I ate it already? Did I enjoy it?" Bucket asked with confusion.
"Um, no, uh, actually, Bucket, I-I'm afraid the, uh–" Hiccup said as he pointed at a Terrible Terror that was walking away with the cod.
"Most of us here on Berk are willing to take the good with the bad. But some will never accept the dragons and will do anything to drive them away."
Riders Of Berk
It's now night-time. On the outskirts of the village, there's a small house. Inside is the sleeping figure of a grumpy older man, Mildew. Suddenly, the roof of his house shakes, waking him up. He then walks outside to find a Gronckle sleeping and snoring on his roof.
"Dragons. I should've known." Mumbled Mildew angrily and then held up a half-eaten Cabbage from his field.
"Helps himself to my roof and my cabbage." He turns around and stares in horror. A bunch of Gronckles has devoured all the cabbages in his field.
"My whole field! Gone! That tears it, Fungus." Mildew grabs his helmet, staff, and sheep, then walks towards the village with a scowl.
Simultaneously in the chief's house, Hiccup's room, the family of four is seen sleeping in a large bed. The base of the bed is made of metal with piles of wool, fur, and shed scales from Fannar until Bergljot made a small plasma blast as she sneezed. Luckily, it didn't hit anything wooden but the slab, which caused Hiccup to jump a little as he felt the heat and swiftly used the metal bit of his leg to put the fire out and checked on the baby dragon and smiled as he saw Bergljot fast asleep with a smile on her face and went back to sleep but not without snuggling into his dominant mate.
Riders Of Berk
The next day, the village was in full swing as a boat full of fish had just arrived at the harbour.
"Stand the elk up in the back. The fishing boats just came in with a big catch."Stoick ordered.
"Stoick!" Mildew shouted as he walked towards the chief.
"Ah, here's Mildew with the day's complaint," Gobber said with warning.
"You picked a bad time, Mildew. I'm in the middle of storing food. The freeze is coming." Stock said with anger.
"Neither are you, Mildew," Gobber said with sarcasm and with some irritation. "Why do you think we built your house far outside town?"
"Ah, very well, make your jokes. Meanwhile, these dragons upend our village carts! Turn people's houses into piles of rubble!" Mildew warned and smiled evilly as the rest of the villagers agreed with him.
Meanwhile, Fannar and Hiccup and their two children, who are both sleeping in their wooden pram, are seen walking around the village helping the mother dragons with their young, who happened to be born two months earlier.
"Thank you, your majesties." Said the mother dragons. "You see, our mates were trying to gather food for us all yesterday, and well….You saw the chaos."
"Yes, we saw-" Hiccup was going to say more until he noticed a scene happening down at the docks. "Oh, gods Fannar, we have to go." Hiccup and Fannar left. Seeing the crowd getting angrier, Hiccup tried but failed to intervene to try and calm them down. Having had enough of this, Fannar made a plasma blast straight into the sky and made a big bang.
"Listen to my mate!" Fannar growled.
Hiccup smiled at his mate and said. "They don't mean any harm. They're just dragons being dragons."
Stoick sighed with tiredness and frustration. "Look, Mildew, if there's a problem, I'll deal with it."
"Oh, there is a problem, Stoick. And I think I speak for everyone when I say you better do something about it." Mildew warned, and he, like the villagers, left but not without glaring at Hiccup and his family.
Riders Of Berk
Later, in Hiccup's house, Stoick discusses the dragon problem with Gobber while Hiccup is breastfeeding Balder while Fannar is feeding Bergljot with mashed fish covered in his saliva.
"We can't just let dragons run wild like they own the place. Hey, we could put up signs!" Stoick suggested.
"Signs? For dragons ?" Gobber asked with confusion while carving a toy for the two children. "Hiccup, what do you think? Gobber asked as he showed Hiccup the carving,
"It looks good. Have one of the fins the same size as the other one."
"Can we get back to the subject at hand?" Stoick said.
"Sorry, dad, but seriously. No offence, but some of the villagers aren't big readers."
"Then we'll build a huge net and stretch it around the plaza," Stoick suggested once again.
"Stoick, your ideas are getting outrageous even more than usual. Why don't we let the two heroes of Berk give their ideas." Gobber said as he pointed towards the two mates watching the two with amusement. "I mean, Fannar is the KING of Dragon, and Hiccup is queen; they are the best for the job."
Hiccup and Fannar looked at each other and said; Chaos was about to begin.
Riders of Berk
The next day, Hiccup and his family are walking through the village, ready to begin dragon-wrangling.
"Okay, Fannar, you deal with the dragons, while I'll deal with the Vikings." Hiccup instructed Fannar,
"Be Careful, Kærasta. Some of them live still riled up by Colonel Blimp." Fannar said with great disdain and protectiveness.
"I will." With that, the two mates went their separate ways as Hiccup spots a woman fending off a Deadly male Nadder trying to take the basket of bread she's holding.
"Get out! Shoot! For the last time, get your nose out of my bread!" The Viking woman cried.
Hiccup runs over to the woman and the male dragon.
"Hold on, and I'll help you! Just... no!" Hiccup shouted at the dragon.
" My queen, I need to find food for my latest mate." The male deadly nadder explained after Hiccup places his hand on the Nader's nose, and the dragon instantly calms down.
Suddenly, a crash is heard, which startles the Nadder. He turns around to see a Gronckle chasing a group of chickens, knocking over carts. As it runs by, the Deadly Nadder chases after it.
"This is off to a great start." Hiccup groans as he notices another Deadly Nadder and Monstrous Nightmare. Both are males fighting near a sheep farm, setting some of the sheep on fire and causing them to scatter. Hiccup begins to panic as Balder wakes up crying, and Bergljot starts to make small plasma blasts on the same sheep.
"Fannar Bergljot!" Hiccup shouted. Fannar nodded and swiftly ran to an area where no buildings and farms would go up in flames.
Hiccup runs into the plaza while holding onto a crying Balder right into the middle of even more chaos than yesterday.
However, unknown to him, the other Riders watch the whole thing on an abandoned catapult.
"Er, guys, I think Hiccup needs our help," Fishlegs said as he watched his best friend trying to put out a flaming sheep, and knocked him and the baby over, which caused Balder to cry louder and forced the closest dragons to go near Hiccup and the babe, which caused even more chaos and destruction. Then the icing on the cake, before Hiccup could get up, hundreds of dragons began flying over the village.
"Oh, no…" That was all Hiccup could say as he and Balder got hit by the dragon poo.
Riders Of Berk
It's now night-time, and Hiccup is trying to wash the dragon poop out of Balder's skin while his body is full of aches and pains.
"Man, today was a disaster." Hiccup said as he winced on his prosthetic leg and stood on it incorrectly. "Fannar, can you help me take it off."
"Of course, my little mate." Fannar did as he asked and then continued to talk. "I think I know what's going on."
"Oh, what's that Fannar?" Hiccup asked as he danced in his head and finally got the smell of dragon poop from Balder's skin.
"The male dragon follows their instincts to provide for their mates, but unlike us, they can mate as many times as they like once the Hatchlings reach an age of four months as then the mother would be stronger to hunt," Fannar explained as he walked towards Balder and licked Balder and Bergljot, so they smelled like him.
"Huh-" Hiccup was going to say something, then he heard his father stomping up the stairs and, without permission from his son-in-law and child, just entered the room with a thunderous rage.
"Hiccup, what's going on out there? The plaza looks like a war zone."
"I know it looks bad…." Hiccup then looked around his room with guilt and continued. "but this is only Phase One of my master plans."
"Oh, so you do have a plan?" Stoick asked with his eyebrows raised as if to say, 'I don't believe you.'
"Fannar mentioned it's the male dragons more than anything. They follow their instincts up until the hatchlings are about four months old. Fannar will be having a meeting with the male dragons while I'll stay at home with the kids." Hiccup ensured Stoick couldn't hear him, "Also, because I got hit by a flaming sheep and dragon shit."
"Uh-huh. Well, this better is real. Because Mildew stirred up the whole island, and if you don't get those dragons under control, they'll call for their heads. And I will not be able to save your mate." Stoick saw what Hiccup was going to say and beat him to it. "I know if Fannar dies, you and the children will follow, BUT I will make sure that will never happen to you both. You're still my child."
Hiccup and Stoick smiled at each other. "I'll let you both rest." Stoick was about to go to his room downstairs but turned round, "Oh, and I heard what you said. Let Fannar deal with the dragons while you and the twins can help me around the village unless Bergljot decides to practice her fire."
Hiccup and Fannar just shrugged their shoulders and went into their nests, and as Hiccup predicted, he dreamt of flaming sheep.
Riders Of Berk
Fannar and the male Dragons gather the following day in the old arena.
" My king, you brought us here?" One of the Monstrous male Nightmare asked. "Why?"
"I understand as a father that you're following your instinct, but you are destroying my mates' village and causing harm to my submissive and children," Fannar explained as gently as he could while being stern. But as Fannar was about to continue, he heard a distant explosion and scattered screams.
"Hiccup!" Fannar shouted as he ran towards the village and smelt his mate. Unfortunately for Fannar, he noticed what was once the food storage house was now a pile of smoking splinters. They also see the Riders' dragons eating all the fish from storage.
"What happened here?" Fannar asked his mate and crooned when he saw Hiccup covered and Balder in soot while Bergljot looked a bit sheepish.
"Sorry, Fannar." Hiccup said. "This little hatchling decided to cause a little explosion." Hiccup said as he pointed towards Bergljot .
Fannar was about to say something when everyone heard a booming voice that could stand heard coming from the village to the forest.
"They've eaten everything! We've got nothing left for the freeze!" Stoick said with anger and frustration.
"I warned you, Stoick. But did you listen to me? No. You put a bunch of teenagers in charge! Now, look at what the dragons have done! Caging is too good for those beasts." Mildew said as he arrived at the scene and only known to Fannar, and Hiccup smiled evilly.
"Dad, I swear I can fix this. We- we were starting to–" Hiccup stuttered with fear in his eyes and voice.
"Enough, Hiccup! How can I trust you to control all the dragons when you couldn't even control your own?" Stoick said as he gestured towards Bergljot, digging into a fish basket.
"Oh, Bergljot…" Hiccup sighed as he picked Bergljot up while ignoring her cries and bites.
Stoick, ignoring his child and grandchildren, looked towards Mulch and Bucket. "Bucket! Mulch! Operate the boats! We need another catch!"
"It's too late, Stoick. It took us six months to catch all that fish." Mulch said with great reluctance while looking at Fannar and his family with a small but friendly and reassuring smile.
"Don't tell me it's too late! We've got to try!" Stoick shouted with anger.
"Of course we do! Uh, don't tell the Chief it's too late. You're always so negative!" Mulch said with fear.
"I don't know what it is with me." Bucket said with confusion.
"Dad, please! You have to listen to me. I know dragons better than–" Hiccup pleaded with all his might.
"Not now, Hiccup. I have a village to feed. The dragons have done enough damage. By tonight, I want every one of them caged. Understand?"
As Mildew was going to argue, Hiccup shouted at his father.
"Does that include me as well?!"
"Hiccup–" Stoick said with shock, but before he could continue, Hiccup started talking again.
"You lock away my mate and children, and you'll lock me away too. We are a FAMILY, not your typical family, but we are a family!"
Seeing that Stoick was about to change his mind, Mildew saw an opportunity. "Bah! You can't just cage these dragons! You need to send them away now! Even your son, as he is a traitor among us."
"My son is not a traitor, Mildew," Stoick said tiredly.
"He mated to a fucking dragon, Stoick! That is not normal, even for a Viking."
Hearing this, the villagers didn't see Hiccup as their hero but as a traitor. "Stoick, Mildew's right! Get them out of here!"
"Stoick, remember you cannot show favoritism." Mildew taunted.
Gobber seeing Hiccup's fear and Fannar planning to use a plasma blast, decided to speak up as Stoick's second but also as Hiccup's godfather. "Mildew, do a Viking and shut the fuck up!" Gobber shouted. Gobber then looked towards Stoick with evident anger in his eyes. "Do NOT listen to this old bastard. Hiccup saved this village from the Red Death along with his mate." Gobber then looked towards the villagers and friends of Hiccup. "Hiccup is not a traitor, and Hiccup fell in love the same we Vikings do; sure, they didn't get married in the Viking way but in the dragon way. If you want Hiccup to be locked away, lock me away too." Gobber then took a big breath and said. "That was a lot better in my head." But to Gobber's shock, Mulch and Bucket stood alongside Gobber and the dragon's family.
Stoick could sigh and say. "We'll cage them tonight, and tomorrow the council and I shall discuss what to do with the dragons." With that, Stoick and the others left all but Hiccup, who cried in his loving mate's neck.
Riders Of Berk
The Teens stood gathered in the Great Hall with sad faces.
"I can't believe our dragons will be caged tonight." Snotlout said with sadness in his eyes and voice.
"It's going to be weird. I got used to seeing Stormfly's face being the first thing I see tomorrow morning." Astrid said while sadly stirring her drink.
"Every night before I went to sleep, Meatlug would lick my feet. Who's going to do that now?!" Fishegs shouted with sadness and cried.
"I volunteer at Tuffnut!" Ruffnut said in an attempt to lighten the mood.
Tuffnut, though, couldn't believe what he was hearing and exclaimed. "Guys, did you all see Hiccup's face?"
The other teens looked at Tuffnut. "Hiccup has it worse, and you remember what Hiccup said the day we flew dragons for the first time? I remember that Hiccup said that if Fannar died, Hiccup and his family will also. For one, I will not let that happen. Hiccup is my friend, and I will not abandon him." Tuffnut then leaves the great hall to see Hiccup and his family, not knowing that the other teens are following her, as she shows the selfishness of the other teens.
Riders Of Berk
Tuffnut couldn't see which cage was Hiccup and his family in, but then he heard a lullaby and followed it,
"Þið finnið leið
Fetið sannleikans með
Æskulög þín
Eini harmur minn er
Hríð og uppgerð
Brotin efndi ég til
Síðar munt sjá
Und frelsaðu þér
Fylg minni röd
Er þér lýsir um nótt
Hann þarf þinn styrk
Þú þarft hjarta hans frjótt
Liðnu skal gleymt
Ekkert fleira mun bætt
Hjartaskurðarsár
Munu saman fá grætt
Fylg minni ást
Fylg minni ást."
Tuffnut finally found Hiccup, but what he saw made her smile and gave him an idea as he saw Fannar making a small fire from his plasma blasts and knew that Hiccup was the best person for this job.
"Psst Hiccup," Tuffnut whispered loudly.
" My little mate, it seems we have a guest," Fannar said as he used his head to point.
"Tuffnut?" Hiccup asked with confusion. "What are you doing here?"
"Getting you out of here. So you can show the rest of the villagers to see what you see."
Fannar then remembered something. " My mate, what if we use the instincts of the dragons." Fannar then looked towards Tuffnut. Tuffnut released the door, and Hiccup and the other dragons flew off.
Riders Of Berk
The next day, Mulch and Bucket are trying to catch fish but fail but are shocked when they see Hiccup riding on Fannar and Snotlout's dragon Hookfang.
"Hookfang scare us with some dinner!" Fannar commanded.
Hookfang dives into the ocean, scaring the fish and herding them into the fishing nets, And flies away once Mulch thanks the dragons for their help.
Riders Of Berk
Hiccup, Stormfly, and Meatlug flew toward Mildew's field, where the older man was trying to plant more cabbage.
"Afternoon, Mildew." Hiccup greeted, while Stormfly used her tail to dig into the soil while Hiccup flew down to pour cabbage seeds into the ground-up dirt.
"Three o'clock! Time for fertiliser!" Hiccup shouted as he noticed Hundreds of dragons flying over Mildew's field, and Meatlug joined them.
And without warning, Meatlug and the rest of the dragons begin pooping onto the field, providing excellent fertiliser to help grow Mildew's cabbage.
"Smile, Mildew! We just saved you three months of work!"
Riders Of Berk
In the forest, Barf and Belch are using their explosions to scare a sounder of wild boars. Once they run out of the woods, Hiccup herds them into the village's slaughterhouse.
"That's the way to do it!" Hiccup shouted as he and Fannar landed safely on the ground.
"My king and queen, thank you for allowing us to help. But I must ask, where are your children?" Meatlug asked.
"The others are looking after the children. Hopefully, Bergljot isn't destroying anything else."
As Hookfang was about to say something, the dragon suddenly growled and stood protectively next to Hiccup and Fannar.
"There they are, Stoick! Those dragons don't look like they're in cages to me." Mildew said with a smug look knowing that Hiccup and the dragons must leave the island.
"No, This is not what I asked for."
Riders Of Berk
The Teens (Fannar and Hiccup's children) are gathered in the arena when Stoick and Gobber approach them. It didn't bode well, as the teens whispered what would happen to them.
"You all disobeyed my orders... and there will be consequences," Stoick said as he walked in circles around the teens.
Hiccup steps up, ready to take full responsibility. "Dad, if anyone's going to get in trouble, it should be Fannar and me. We are the king and queen of the dragons of Berk."
"Nope. You all had a hand in this."
"Chief, it was mostly Hiccup and Fannar, and they made us babysitters while taking our dragons to do something." Snotlout said.
"Well, if that is the case, and I can say Hiccup, once again, you showed that humans and dragons can live in peace, and therefore you'll be in charge and start a Dragon Training Academy!" Stoick announced. "I'm also proud of you, Hiccup," Stoick added and nodded toward the villagers and released the dragons.
Riders Of Berk
Hiccup is drawing his friends with their dragons, Meatlug is licking a sleeping Fishlegs' feet, and an asleep Astrid's window flies open, revealing Stormfly, ready to start the day.
"Dragons can't change who they are. But who would want them? Dragons are powerful, amazing creatures."
Hookfang and Meatlug are hanging the new sign on the new Academy: Berk Dragon Training Academy.
"Berk Dragon Academy. I like the sound of that." Astrid said while admiring the sign.
"And as long as it takes me, I will learn everything there is to know about them. Wouldn't you?"
I do not own the lyrics. It is owned by Santa Monica Studios and was composed by Bear Mc Creary.
