Two days after Remus received the letter from Dumbledore.
A knock sounds from outside the Potter house. Euphemia Potter rushes to answer and opens the door to reveal Professor Dumbledore and I, a black she-wolf with white leopard spots, one blue eye, and one green eye. "Oh, Albus! Please, do come in. Would you like me to call the boys in?" Mia says as she ushers us inside.
"Please, do," Dumbledore says as he and I enter the house. Dumbledore takes a seat in the living room, while I walk over to the wall behind a leather chair and look at the pictures lining it. I sit beside the wall and look back at Dumbledore, whining. There's pain shining in my eyes, though it disappears as soon as James, Sirius, and Remus stumble into the room. My eyes widen and I stand. The boys stop moving as soon as they see me.
"Boys! Enough of that ruckus. Take a seat and listen. Albus has something to tell you," Mia scolds and the boys listen to her immediately.
"Boys, I have brought Remus' mother with me. Remus, your mother is the she-wolf you see standing beside the walls. Mrs. Lupin, please come over here," Dumbledore says.
I walk over to him. My tail begins to wag uncontrollably as my eyes remain focused on Remus. I look at Mia and then at Remus. She nods in confirmation and I jump onto the couch beside Remus. I lick his face gently before sniffing his neck, my wet nose tickling him as I take in the scent of the pup I missed. Remus hesitantly lays a hand on my back and strokes the thick black and white fur. I bark and leap off of Remus. I walk over to a clear area in the center of the living room and begin the transformation into my human form. My human form reveals a tall woman with long, wavy, black hair with white tips. Blue jeans, boots, and a long sleeve shirt cover my form. I grin and chuckle at the shock on everyone's faces.
"What? Didn't expect me to shift into a human form?" I inquire and stretch my sore muscles with a groan. "I am never going eighteen years without shifting again. So, Albus, how has my pup been since he began his years at Hogwarts?"
"He's a wonderful student, one of the top students in all of his classes. He was sorted into Gryffindor, which wasn't too much of a shock due to his heritage. Half the staff lost the bet, including Minerva," Dumbledore states.
"That's good. The Lupin and Ashina families were known for being full of both Gryffindors and Slytherins. I was sorted into Slytherin like my father and your father was a Gryffindor like his mother. With your sorting into Gryffindor, it appears I lost the bet as well. Your father would be proud. I suppose I should explain where I've been all these years. Allow me to start from the beginning. It all started about twenty-five years ago. You see, your father and I got married two years after we graduated from Hogwarts. He chased after my affections for years. I caught his eye. The kind, bookwormish Slytherin, the odd Slytherin out. Those first few years of us being married were wonderful until HE happened. We had to go on the run because HE went on a rampage of pureblood supremacy. I had married and fallen in love with a Gryffindor, the arrogant house, and a pureblood at that. My second cousin, twice removed, he-who-must-not-be-named, was pissed, to say the least. Your father and I went on the run, constantly on the move for years. When I was twenty-five, we had you. Four years later, your father was killed. I was angry and distraught over the loss of my mate, but I knew, I had to take care of you. By then the world was a mess and a half and it wasn't safe for me to raise you, a young werewolf pup, on my own. I decided to take you to the nearest werewolf den, which was about a three-days trip from where we were at the time. I managed to get you there in time. I left a note with ya, informing the pack who you were and of your heritage. I've been on the move ever since," I lean against the arm of the couch beside Remus as I tell the tale that led to where we are today.
"What happened to Dad?" Remus asks and I sigh.
"That, my pup, is a gruesome tale, but I will tell it anyhow. A cougar had decided to make you its snack. At the time, we stayed in our wolf forms, it was easier to hide. We fought it off the best we could and it had just run off when the Death Eaters struck. Dark, hood-clad figures emerged from the shadows of the forest. Your father and I fought viciously until he was struck by a bright yellow light. It was a curse that killed him within half an hour. I still have yet to discover what the curse was. I can still remember the painful feeling of our bond weakening. Our bond sealed our souls together for all of eternity. I can share some memories of the three of us, if you'd like," I explain.
"Please do," Remus says, almost pleading.
I smile softly and allow memories to play through the bond between Loki and I, which is barely there.
The first memory is Loki teasing Remus in a meadow as Remus hunts fireflies. The next memory is of Remus and Loki watching the sunrise from a cliff. One is of our small pack of three playing together. Remus is lying on his back in the grass as Loki and I play with him gently. Another is of Loki and I basking in the morning sun in the middle of fall. There's one of me calming Loki after a stressful hunt. My favorite memory of Remus and I is when he and I would gaze at the stars, we could sometimes see the Northern Lights if we were far enough north.
The last memory shown is Loki teaching Remus the Code of the Wolf while I watch on. "Remember, Remus, the Code of the Wolf is very important to all wolves. All wolves live by it," Loki explains, "Now recite it with me."
"Protect your pack, show no fear. Respect the elder, and teach the young. Lead your companions, and survive each day. Hunt your enemies, Howl to a new tomorrow. Explore the unknown, adapt to the environment, and demonstrate no weakness. Never back down, and always leave your mark," The duo recites, finishing with a howl, which I join in.
The memories fade away, leaving me with a soft smile on my face. "Now you have seen a few of our memories. There are two more things I must explain before I leave. One, your heritage. And two, this coming school year. The Ashina and Lupin families are considered royalty to werewolves. Each of the royal families can shift into their animal form at will and also have a royal form, which is adorned with all sorts of accessories based on your title within the family. I am considered Queen of the Lupin and Ashina families. You are the Prince. However, wolves do not address each as such. You are the next in line Alpha of the Lupin and Ashina families. I am the current Luna of the Lupin and Ashina families. When you find your mate, your Luna, I will step down and offer advice when it is warranted. I was in my normal form when you originally entered the room. Your normal form is based off your magical core, your personality, your human appearance, and your bloodline. For example I have white 'tear drops' on my wolf form, which represent my status as the eldest of the Ashina family. Your royal gene is dormant. I will teach you how to activate it and all the other magnificent things that come with being a wolf in due time. Now for the other thing I mentioned. I was offered a position at Hogwarts as the DADA professor when I first graduated Hogwarts. Albus has informed me that the offer still stands. I will see you this coming school year, Remus, as your DADA professor," I explain a few other things.
