Chapter 3: Cup Brothers Inheritance

At the Elder Kettle's house, the Cup Bros are reading comics on the couch while their elderly caretaker reads the newspaper in his chair. The Goat from the front yard is sleeping in a dog bed.

"Oh, dear. Listen to this, everyone," Elder Kettle continued while everyone stared at him. "They have been reports of young lads going missing."

"Missing lads?! Like around our ages?" Mugman became in fear.

"Yep."

"Gah, why would they go missing?!"

"Eh, I ain't too worried about it. No one can make this Cup disappear," Cuphead brushed it off.

"I'm glad you have courage about this, Cuphead, but I knew this day would come. Goat!" said Elder Kettle.

The Goat wakes up, goes to the piano, and plays a particular piece of music on it, which makes it go up and shows a secret entrance into the basement. The Cup Brothers are surprised by this while Elder Kettle goes to it.

He picked up a lit candle and said, "Follow me, boys."

Interested, the Cup Brothers follow him down the entrance.

Then Elder Kettle said as they walked, "As you know, boys. Your parents were special travelers who travel the world."

"Yeah, and they always bring presents from their trips," said Cuphead.

"They did promise when we were 13 that they would take us on their adventures with them," Mugman sulked.

The Cup Brothers put their hands on their hearts as they remember the last time they saw them. Their parents, Herb and Mocha, waved goodbye to them as they left on a boat. The 12-year-old brothers wave back at them on the pier with Elder Kettle. The memory ends when Elder Kettle turns on the basement lights to reveal a vast collection of ancient and authentic religious relics.

"Wow," the Cup Brothers commented.

Then Elder Kettle continued, "Your parents weren't ordinary travelers. They were exorcists."

"Exhibitionists?" Cuphead asks.

"No, Cuphead. It's exorcists. They are believed to be able to cast out the Devil or perform the ridding of demons or other supernatural beings who are alleged to have possessed a person, or (sometimes) a building or even an object."

"So, Mom and Dad were demon hunters?"

"Something like that, but mostly your mother and her bloodline. But your father came from a long line of exorcists."

"So, Mom is from a blood family of Demon Hunters, and Dad is from a blood family of Exorcists?" said Mugman.

"That's correct, Mugman."

Cuphead and Mugman look at each other and begin to remember their encounters with the Devil in the Cuphead Show!

"That makes sense," they both lowered their eyelids a bit and were unnerved.

Then Elder Kettle continued, "One day, boys. You will take on your family's legacies in defending our world from the Demons that run amuck. There's this potion that will unlock your powers to do so."

Elder Kettle then goes over to a cabinet containing every weapon potion from Cuphead and its DLC. He takes the elixir of the Peashooter.

"Your ancestors made these potions along with their formula," he continued. "They were once part of a heroic group of kitchenware folk who were religious protectors of Inkwell Isles called the Calix Animi. From ancient times, they believe Inkwell Isles and its seas have held the gateways to other dimensions like Hell and Heaven. They and the first settlers of our home vow to prevent anyone or anything from going through or out of the gates. You, along with me and possibly every one of our Isles, are their descendants. Some choose to follow their ancestorial destiny, while the rest decide to forget and abandon it. Your ancestors secretly continue the legacy while being demon hunters and exorcists as a cover and backup legacies. One drop from this potion, boys, will unlock your family's powers."

With the pipette of the potion, Elder Kettle drops a drop of it into the Cup Brothers' heads of their milk.

"I don't feel any different," the Cup Brothers said.

"Remember this, boys. Your defense is just a finger snap away," said Elder Kettle.

When the front door was knocked on, the brothers ran and said, "I'll get it! I'll get it! I'll get it!"

When they reached the door, they opened it and spotted Ms. Chalice.

"Hiya, boys," she said.

"Chalice, baby! How you doin', Mama? You're just in time," Cuphead said, pulling her face to his, so he could hold her hand to spin her around and hug her.

She blushed while Mugman said, "Cuphead, you're too touchy at times."

"Am not! Any Chalice, what brings you here?"

When Cuphead lets her go, she responds, "Guess what, boys? Thea Rebelwish and Caffina Gardener, the Movie Star Cousins, are in town to shoot a movie."

"Really?! That's incredible!" Mugman said in excitement.

"Who?" Cuphead asks.

"Cuphead, you should read the end credits of every movie. Caffina is my favorite."

"Okay? But why is that?"

"Because they are looking for stunt doubles in their movie. This could be our one chance to become famous actors along with my girl group."

With dollar signs in his eyes, Cuphead said, "Get rich quick into this! Let's do it."

"Bye, Elder Kettle. We'll be back before sunset," said the Cup Brothers, following Chalice out the door.

When the door closes, Elder Kettle is seen sleeping on the couch with the Front Yard Goat.

"Beware, boys... For your family is arch-enemies with the Devil…," he sleep-talk.
