Buon Natale

Summary: A Janto Christmas one-shot (also Jack knows Italian - not super relevant but it's why the title is in Italian)

Characters: Jack, Ianto

Disclaimer: all characters are owned by the BBC and RTD. If I did own them, Torchwood woulda been a lot different. I just play with them :)

AN: slight deviation from canon, but mostly in Torchwood

Jack and Ianto stepped off the invisible lift and joined the rush of people on the sidewalks. They held hands as they walked, going into various stores, looking for the perfect Christmas gifts. Ianto spotted a store that looked like it'd have the perfect gift for his boyfriend. He didn't want Jack to catch onto his plan, and he struggled to come up with a way to distract him. Or not. Seemed like something had caught the Captain's eye in another store and he had whisked off without telling Ianto. The Welshman smiled to himself. 'Problem solved,' he thought, as he snuck into the jewelry store.

Jack felt bad about going off without his boyfriend, but he noticed the younger man trying to find a polite reason why Jack shouldn't accompany him to the next store. So he gave him a reason. Jack slipped away to the store they had been in earlier - he had noticed Ianto eyeing a gorgeous three-piece suit, but it was pretty expensive and he passed on the opportunity to buy it. Jack decided to buy it for him, along with a couple of nice shirts and ties to go with it.

Later that night, they were sitting on the floor of their living room, wrapping gifts. Jack had made them hot chocolate - it was delicious and warm on such a cold night. Ianto felt eyes on him - he glanced up and caught the Captain watching him. The expression on Jack's face was one full of affection - no, not affection. Love. He looked like a man in love, and it left a warm feeling spreading through Ianto. He smiled softly, thinking about the gift he had hidden away. Ianto knew he had made the right choice, and he couldn't wait to see Jack's reaction. He was taking a risk, but he didn't care. He decided it was worth it.

Soon, all the gifts were wrapped, and the tree decorated. Jack was sitting on the floor in front of the tree, Ianto between his legs, and Jack's arms wrapped around his waist, holding him close. He kissed the younger man's cheek, and rested his head on his shoulder. Jack didn't think it could get any better - he was with the man he loved, spending Christmas with him and just doing simple, domestic things with him. Jack never thought he could do domestic, but for Ianto, he wanted to. He would do anything for the Welshman in his arms. "I love you," he whispered, a breath against Ianto's neck.

Ianto turned to look at him. "I love you too," he whispered back, then kissed Jack's lips softly. They sat for a while, wrapped in each other's embrace, no words needed, just enjoying the other's presence. There were no rift alerts that needed attention, no rogue Weevils to chase after, no alien invasions for once, and they were going to take full advantage of that. But for now, they were content to just sit cuddled together. Until their backs started complaining from being on the floor for so long, and they got up to go somewhere more comfortable.

The next morning was Christmas Eve, and they went to the hub to exchange presents with the rest of the team. From Toshiko, Ianto had gotten a new diary, beautifully bound in black leather with silver embossed details on the cover. He had given her a genuine silver bracelet he had bought from Japan, with an inscription in Japanese that read "For my best friend, my sister." From Gwen - a bag of a nice Costarican coffee bean blend. He gave her a cashmere scarf in emerald green to match her eyes, with her initials monogrammed on it. From Owen he got a set of gold cufflinks in the shape of the letter 'I'. His gift for Owen was a medical journal on something the medic had been studying that hadn't been released yet.

Tosh's gift to Jack was a new silver pocket watch - oh wait. Not a new one. It was his old one, repaired and cleaned up. He thought after the rift had been opened that it was destroyed, so he was touched that she was able to do this. He hugged her tight. Owen gave him a couple of tailored waistcoats - he must've gotten the measurements from Ianto, because it fit perfectly. One was black on the front with a deep blue back, and the other one was a dark grey with a red back. Gwen gave him a framed photo of him and Ianto - she got it from the CCTV, he supposed, because no one had been with them at that moment. It showed the two men holding hands, standing slightly apart but with shoulders touching, watching the sun set over Cardiff Bay. In front of the team, Ianto gave Jack a different gift than the one he was planning on giving Jack the next day. He gave Jack a small model of the plane he had flown in WWII, that he could keep on the desk in his office. Jack loved it. For the whole team, Jack gave them all a holiday bonus, as well as their own gift. For Tosh - a silver locket to match the bracelet from Ianto, and it had a photo of her with her mother inside the heat shaped pendant. For Owen, a pair of fine leather gloves, lined with fleece to keep him warm. For Gwen, a pair of nice booties that'd pair well with most outfits, and that had a wide heel, so it was perfect to chase aliens or run from aliens in.

Jack and Ianto had left their gifts to each other until Christmas morning. Now that it was, Jack excitedly woke Ianto to give him his gift and to see what the Welshman had for him. Ianto couldn't hold back his amused snort at Jack's exuberance. It was endearing to see Jack so carefree and have a moment to act like an excited child. He smiled fondly, and put on his bathrobe before accompanying Jack downstairs to their living room. He took the wrapped box from Jack, and carefully unwrapped it. Inside was the black suit he'd been admiring, with the waistcoat too, along with a light pink shirt and a dark purple shirt, plus a medium grey tie that had diagonal pink and white stripes, and a black tie with subtle red pinstripes. Jack certainly knew how to match suits. Ianto put down the package, and pulled Jack into a deep kiss. "It's perfect. Thank you, Jack." He held Jack in a tight hug, feeling the weight of the small box in his pocket. 'Yep,' he thought, 'definitely the right choice.'
