Its midnight by the time I wake up, I look over and see Hugo on the bottom bunk of the bed next to mine, with James on the top bunk. Careful not to wake anybody else up as I do so, I make my way out of the pitch-black room, cursing slightly that I picked the door furthest from the door.
I pause at the door, not sure which way I'm supposed to go. I don't even know if I'm allowed to be out this late. I pick a random direction a just walk, knowing I won't be able to get back to sleep, I'll just explore. The first room I come across is large but empty. Deciding there is nothing interesting in there I carry on walking. Soon I can hear the familiar sound of chasm, I get across the bridge as quickly but cautiously as I can.
"What are you doing up?" I jump at the voice, and as I look up to see Four.
"I... Uh… Sorry, I'll go back" I stutter and start to turn around.
"You're going the wrong way for food" he calls out, I turn to face him, confusion clear on my face. Why would he care? "You really don't remember me, do you Rory?" he asks with a slight sigh. I squint at him, trying to work out how he knows me.
Then it clicks. I run full sprint into his arms "Tobias" I ask in barely whisper, I almost don't believe its him. He's certainly changed, nothing like the lanky teenager he was when he left 8 years ago. But it was his eyes, the same as mine, that confirmed it was still him, my brother.
"I knew you had a brain in there somewhere" he tells me laughing, ruffling my hair as I finally let go.
"I'm sorry about your mother" He says quietly, how did he know about that? "She was a wonderful woman"
"Yeah well, shit happens" I mutter.
He drops the subject and I follow him round the halls no clue where we are going, but eventually we come across a cluster of bars and restaurants. Its surprisingly busy for midnight, we are definitely not in Abnegation anymore. A hand on my shoulder steers me into a nearby restaurant and over to a booth with a few Dauntless members in.
"Picking favourites already Four?" A dark-skinned man sat opposite me asks
"Fuck off Zeke" Tobias replies quickly but there's no malice in the words "This is my sister, Rowan"
Four introduces me to the rest of his friends, I recognise Jac and Lauren from before. And sat next to Zeke is his brother Uriah. Four sits to my right and rests his arm around the girl next to him.
"This is Tris" He says with a smile. So that's how he knew about my mother, Natalie and Andrew Prior were our neighbours in Abnegation. Andrew was on the council with our father Marcus. Natalie and my mother had been good friends and after her death, Natalie helped with the baby whenever she could.
