It feels like my head barely hit the pillow before the quiet is interrupted by the clanging. I sit up slowly, squinting as my eyes adjust to the bright lights flooding the room. I can't help but laugh when I see Hugo sit bolt upright, hitting his head on the bunk above him.
"You've got 30 minutes before training starts" Four announces now that he's stopped banging that bloody pipe. "I'd hurry up and get some breakfast" with that he leaves the room. Everyone hurries down to the mess hall, I sit at the end of the table next to Hugo
"So what do you think they have us do?" One of the Amity girls asks
"They have to go easy on us surely, its only the first day" The annoying one from the roof asks. I tune out the rest of the conversation. I never was much of a morning person. I take the time to properly observe my fellow transfers, there was 12 of us in total. There's three from Amity, two girls and one boy. Apparently the annoying one is called Meadow and her friend is Leigh, I don't know the boy's name yet. There were three Erudite, a ginger boy called Elmer who I shared a few classes with at school, a big brutish boy called Murphy and a tall blonde called Olivia. The last two were Candor but I didn't know their names either, they didn't look very friendly and mostly stuck together.
We start the day with a run around the compound, I stay at the back I never had been a fan of running but it was helpful to get our bearings round the maze of corridors that made up the compound. We then spent the rest of the morning watching Eric and Four demonstrate some basic punches and blocks on each other.
After lunch its our turn to practice the moves on orange punching bags. It's difficult to not feel wildly out of my depth at this point. The bag barely moves when I hit it, but next to me I can see the bag swing wildly when Colby punches it, a fierce look on his face whilst he does it.
"Alright everyone gather round" Eric calls from the other side of the room. He and Tobias are stood next to a board with all our names on it. "This board is your life, it serves two purposes. For stage 1 you will be trained and ranked separately from the Dauntless-born but stage 2 you will be ranked together. Your ranking will determine what job you get after initiation. But... if you're below this red line at the end of each stage you get cut, four after the first stage, the rest of you after the second"
"Cut?" Leigh asks nervously
"It's a new rule, there's no going back to your families, so you'd live factionless" Eric replies calmly as if he had just told us we would simply go without dinner.
"What! That's not fair, someone should have told us" One of the Dauntless-born complains. And I can't help but feel sorry for the Dauntless-born, in any other faction choosing to stay would guarantee you'd get to stay with your family. I guess that's not the case here.
"Why? Would you have chosen differently? Out of fear?" Eric questions, "I mean, if that's the case you might as well get out now. You chose us. Now we get to choose you" And with that there is no more discussion to be had and we are dismissed for dinner.
AN: Thought I'd get back into writing. What do you think so far? There were some formatting issue that I have now fixed, let me know if there are anymore in the future ~depressed_introvert~
