Author's Note: I had fun with my last 100-word drabble, so here is another.

EXPECTATIONS

Mark stared at the muted grey cubicle wall.

Those years in law school, the lectures and discussions. Study groups. Mock trials. Reviewing notes. The preparation for the bar exam.

And here he was, graduated and in possession of a law license, and still a law clerk.

Hardcastle had said he wouldn't be practicing right away. "Be patient, kiddo."

"Patient," Mark muttered to himself. He made a few random keystrokes, so it sounded like he was working.

There was a rap on the edge of his cubicle. "Ready for lunch?" Hardcastle said.

Mark stood, smiling for the first time that day.
