This is mostly just an idea, but I want to see where it goes...

Three years before Eragon arrives at the Varden

"Thank you." Yomir muttered, holding his head in agony. The Twins, two bald and ugly-spirited men, had ripped through his mind with fervent energy, rendering the small boy's very soul aching. A tall black man with a strong presence had, almost immediately afterward, offered him a drink and something to soothe his head as he sat in a cell.

The man smiled. "My name is Ajihad, and I welcome you to the Varden, dear boy. The twins tell me your name-"

"Yomir, I gave it to myself. I've had a dozen masters, and they all called me something different,I chose a name to keep track of myself. My identity. " The man stopped, sighing.

"Tell me about yourself then, Yomir, I only know you were a slave."

Seeing no point in lying, Yomir told his tale. "I lived in Dras-Leona, I watched people sacrifice themselves and their slaves for the Priesthood. Chopping off body parts and drinking blood, I overheard my master, a woman named Leah, saying she was offering me to pay a debt to the priesthood... I ran, sneaking onto a trade boat until I got off at Petrovya. I followed a set of slavers for a bit through the Beor Mountains, I got caught yesterday... they knocked me out,... the next thing I remember is waking up in your cells, being interrogated by the Twins. It is all blurry, I think they drugged me."

Ajihad nodded. "They did drug you, my healers purged it. It was to keep you quiet until you could be sold."

Scowling, Yomir cursed. "I cannot believe I was caught again... after all I went through to escape!"

"You would like have likely escaped, you seem rather strong-willed and clever. How did you escape the first time?"

Sighing, he owned up to his crime. "I killed my master then set fire to the house." He shrugged. "They beat me terribly, I will not apologize for that."

"I cannot blame you." The man said. "Slavery is a great evil, one I aim to undo if we succeed."

"We?"

"The Varden."

That made Yomir nod. " I thought so... I... I want to join. No one should go through the horrors of Slavery. I may be young, only fourteen, but I can learn or run messages. Actually, I heard, through the grapevine as it were, that you have magicians in your midst. Could I learn the craft, I promise to work hard!"

"I will see what I can do, dear boy... but for now, rest, you've been through an ordeal. If you are ready tomorrow, I will see what I can arrange. I will send for someone to take you to the infirmary, to rest and heal."

And so that is what happened and before Yomir knew it, he was resting in a distant place. His head too muffled to care about anything around him, needing rest and relaxation to heal off the stress of the days long gone by. For finally, his soul knew that peace was almost at his fingertips...

Even if he likely had to make himself.
