It was a typical Saturday. Summer was over, high school was just around the corner. Gumball, Darwin, Ember, Ken, Alana, Penny, Carrie, and all of the other classmates will be in 9th grade in two days. It felt like forever since the Sepsis situation, and life had perfectly gone back to normal. Ember and Ken made a vow to stay, Gumball and Penny hired a babysitter for Isabella, Darwin and Carrie had a strong relationship, Alana and Ember's relationship grew powerful, Naima and Greyson turned a year old, and Anais was now five years old. The twins were very sensitive to hearing a lot, and Nicole figured it wasn't much of a problem because they were only a year old. It was normal…right?
"Kids, I know it's a Saturday, but you have to get back into the routine," Nicole demanded, knocking on the bedroom door of her children and daughter-in-law.
"Just five more minutes, mom," Gumball groaned.
"No, we're not doing that. Come on, Gumball. Darwin, Anais, Penny, y'all, too."
"Ughhhh."
After everyone woke up, they traveled downstairs and sat on the couch.
"Let's do something productive. Get our minds awake and moving," Nicole suggested.
"Let's play some video games," Gumball said.
"Let's play Dooj or Darr," Darwin replied.
"Bro, that game is dangerous. Remember what happened last time?"
"Yeah, so? We can learn to control it by not daring stupid things."
"I can't contain myself, though."
"Oh, I have an idea!" Penny exclaimed, "Let's go to the movies!"
Suddenly, the door swung open and Ember walked inside.
"Wow, no window?" Gumball teased.Ember gave Gumball an angry glare that made him freeze in place, "I'll watch Isabella for you."
"Thanks, Ember," Penny smiled.
"Wait, how did you know what we were talking about?" Gumball questioned, "Were you stalking us?"
"I was planning on coming here before school, but yeah, that works, too."
"Kids, dinner!"
"Wait, what?"
"Didn't we just wake up?" Gumball asked.
Ember took out her phone and glanced at the time, "It's six o'clock in the evening."
"How??" Gumball asked, confused.Ember shrugged but then put the pieces together, now showing a face of anger and annoyance, "Ken."
"Ken!" Ember shouted, "I know what you did."
Ken was sitting on the couch when Ember busted through the door. He looked up at her with a questioning face, "Huh?"
"Using the potion to make time go faster!" Ember scolded, "Why??"
"I want to go back to school."Ember groaned, "Where's the potion?"
Ken pointed to his bedroom upstairs, making Ember walk up them.
She walked into his bedroom and grabbed the potion. She dripped it onto the ground and took the potion back downstairs. "Don't use potions without my permission anymore, Ken," and with that, she exited through the door and left the house.
Ember reached the Watterson's house once again and opened the door, "It was Ken. He used a potion to make the time go faster. Said he wanted to go back to school. We can't use it again or they will be side effects, and they won't be good. We have to throw it away, securly!"
"Why do you make such potions?" Gumball asked.
Ember scratched her head in embarassment, "Heh, uh, I-I just like to have money. Maybe one day I'll make potions perfectly usable!"
"Wait, if you used one of your potions to bring me back to life…"
"Oh, no worries, Gumball, that one was the first one. I've tried it out on Carrie's parents and it worked! She didn't really like that so I had to use the undo potion. But no side effects after that!"
"Uh huh," Gumball replied, in a suspicious tone, "Anyways, we have to change the potion. Maybe add or remove some things?"
"Nah, that won't work," Ember replied, "It's a chemical mixture, so it won't be able to be undone, but maybe…maybe...we can add some things to make a different potion. Maybe a fixing potion or an undo potion! Or a mute potion that will unmute if you use it a second time."
"Great idea!" Gumball exclaimed, "Let's work on it!"
"Kids, time for bed!""Maybe tomorrow, though," Gumball recommended.
"Yeah, yeah, that works, see ya at the factory tomorrow!" Ember waved as she exited through the front door.
"Come on, come on...fall is here right..." the clock struck Midnight, "Now! Haha, time for my coldness!"
Ken walked downstairs and rubbed his eyes with a groan, "Ember, go to bed."
"I had to watch the clock!"
"Good, you did, now bed."
"Fine," Ember groaned and headed upstairs.
"I'm just saying, it would be better if it was never cold," Gumball argued.
Ember gasped in shock, "How...dare...you...the coldness is really important for the environment. Like for Canda! And white Christmases!"
Gumball raised his left eyebrow, "Really? That's all of the reasons you can think of?"
"Well, if it's always hot outside, then it might get too hot, and then we'll have climate change and all that nonsense," Ember explained, "I do not want to experience the Earth melting."
"It's only going to be this dimension anyway."
"So? That doesn't matter."
"Stop fighting, you two," Darwin demanded.
The bus pulled up to the school and everyone got off. Penny and Gumball were together, Darwin and Carrie were together, and Ember and Alana were together. They walked into the school, when Gumball noticed Penny acting strange.
"Hey, Penny!" Gumball greeted, as he walked up to her.
"Hey, Gummy!"
"How are you today?"
"A little cold, but good!"
Gumball then noticed that her glow was slightly dim. He cocked his head and looked up at her, "You sure? Your glow...it seems...dim."
"Oh, it's nothing, don't worry," she smiled nervously.
Ember walked up to Penny and Gumball and opened her locker, "Hey, Gumball, hey, Penny!"
Gumball tapped on Ember's shoulder, making her turn around, "Uh, Ember, you're smart, right?"
"Yeah, why?"
Gumball pointed at Penny, who was digging in her own locker, "Her glow is gim...and she looks sick..."
"Oh, no worries," Ember replied, "Don't worry about it."
"But-"
"Gumball, do you trust me?"
"Uh, I guess?"
"Good. When she is really really sick, come to my house and I'll show you," Ember explained.
"O...kay...?"
Ember smiled, waved, and left while Gumball was left, confused and full of curiosity.
"Gumball?" Penny asked, walking up to him during lunch.
"Yes?" he replied, turning to face her. She had her hoodie off, and she looked sicker than before! Her nose was completely red and she was almost completely transparent. She looked cold and exhausted.
"Penny, you need to head home...you don't look good...like at all."
"I feel so tired..." Penny confessed, "It's like I'm dying or something."
"Hey!" Gumball held her hands, "Don't say that...y-you're just fine! I-It's probably just a cold...y-yeah, it is just a cold! It's all good! Heh..."
Penny noticed his worry and so she put her hand on his shoulder, "It's alright, Gumball," she coughed, smiled, and walked off. He sighed in return and walked off in the other direction.
"She's not okay, Darwin, I'm being serious..." Gumball said during lunch.
"Have you asked Ember about it?" Darwin replied.
"Yeah, she said to take her to her house when Penny gets really really sick."
"Maybe that's right now?"
Gumball gasped, "You're right! Thanks, buddy!"
After school, Penny coughed when the bell rang, and it sounded really bad. Gumball walked over to and took her hand, "Come on, Penny. We're going to Ember's house."
"Why?" she replied, once she finally caught her breath, once the cough ended.
"Because I love you, Penny," he took her hands, "I want you to be safe...and healthy..."
"I know, Gummy," she kissed his cheek, "And I appreciate that. Come on, let's head home."
"Nah ah ah," Gumball shook his head, "Enber's house first."
She giggled slightly, "Alright, let's head to Ember's house."
When they reached Ember's house, Ember was expecting him. She was already standing outside, waiting for their arrival.
"Welcome," she said with a smirk.
"Yeah, whatever," Gumball rolled his eyes, "Is she sick enough yet?? Please explain!"
"Take off the hoodie."
Penny sighed and took it off, but Ember shook her head before the hoodie got off.
"How is she not sick enough?!" Gumball raged, "Please explain to me what's going on!!"
Ember sighed, "She's going into hibernation."
"What do you mean?"
"She gets very weak, exhausted, and when she's as fragile as glass, she goes to sleep, we throw her to the ground, she breaks, and then turns into a healthier version of herself."
"What the what?!" Gumball reacted, "We have to WHAT?!"
"It's fine, Gumball!" Ember assured, "It's normal. Fairies do it every year."
"How come she's never done it before??"
"Well, duh, this is her first autumn out of her shell," Ember smirked, "Now, when she is almost completely transparent, let her go to sleep and then throw her, or if it's less painful, drop her."
"Why would that be less painful?! She'll be in PIECES!!"
"Relax, Gumny, I'll be fine," Penny said, putting a hand on his shoulder.
"I'm not throwing her on the floor!" Gumball shouted. He stomped out of the house and down the road.
"Okay, guess I'll do it," Ember concluded.
"She really expects me to 'drop' my girlfriend!" Gumball ranted, "T-That's like...the craziest thing ever!"
"Hm..." Darwin thought, "Maybe we can ask her parents if it's the solution!"
"Great idea!" Gumball agreed with a smile, "Let's do it!"
Penny was sitting beside the two, trying not to fall asleep. She had her palm resting on her chin, her head throbbing, intensifying by the minute. Gumball stopped smiling and looked over by the restless fairy. It seemed like she had gotten more sick since the night before.
"Penny...are you alright?"
"Yeah, Gummy, I'm fine, just," she yawned, "tired." Her head slid down her palm before she jerked it back up, trying to keep herself awake.
"Penny, you're going home," Gumball said, getting up and grabbing her hand, "Come on."
"Mom!" Gumball called out, opening the door to the house, still holding Penny's hand.
"What are you two doing home so—oh my goodness, Penny, are you alright??"
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine," Penny replied.
Penny took off her hoodie, and there she was...translucent.
"I-I think it's time," Gumball sighed, turning to Penny, "Penny, ready?"
She nodded and closed her eyes, immediately losing her consciousness. Gumball was lucky enough to catch her before she hit the floor. He took a deep breath, "Okay, mom, watch out," he told her, before picking her up, closing his eyes, and dropping her, and she shattered into pieces.
"Gumball Watterson, what did you just do to your girlfriend?!" Nicole scolded.
Gumball shushed her, "Sh, mom, it's fine...we just have to wait..."
Nicole raised an eyebrow, "Huh?"
Gumball took out his phone and quickly called Ember's cell.
"What?"
"How long until she comes back together?"
Ember suddenly appeared in the doorway and grabbed a piece, "This is what I've been looking for! A piece of a fairy angel! Perfection!"
"Huh?" Gumball asked, putting his phone back into his pocket, "Also, how did you get here so fast?"
"I have my ways," she replied, "Now wait for it."
"And wait..."
"And wait..."
"And—"
"Oh, come on, Ember, when is she gonna—"
Suddenly, a voice behind him spoke, "Is now an option?"
Gumball widened his eyes and turned his head, hugging her at the sight, "Penny, you're alive!"
"Did you think I was dead?" Penny asked.
Gumball rubbed his arms in a nervous manner, "Uh, m-maybe..."
Penny giggled, "It's okay, Gumball."
"So, what now?"
"I'm gonna go add this piece of Penny to the potion," Ember said, waving them goodbye, "See ya!"
Ember left the house and Gumball looked back at Penny, "Anyways, now that you're healthy again, wanna go out on Saturday?"
"I'd love to," she replied with a smile, "Come on," she grabbed his paw, "let's go play with Isabella."
He smiled as they walked upstairs.
"Ah, my little boy growing up," Nicole said in awe, before looking over at Greyson and Naima, "Alright, my turn! I spy with my little eye..."
