Title comes from 'You & Me' by James TW

For Lucy

As long as I got you and me

Moving through this world as a two-man team

I'll always have everything I need

You don't even realise what you mean

No one could fall for you quite like me

No one could get me so perfectly

You don't even realise (Oh-oh-oh)

You're all that I need

When it came to the subject of kids, in the past, it never crossed either of their minds that they would eventually be parents. For Hailey, talking about having kids was always a touchy subject, with everything she had been through with her own parents she didn't know if she was up to the job of becoming one herself. Jay had some of the same fears as Hailey, he didn't want to become his father, he didn't want to give a kid the same rocky relationship that he had with his father. But as Hailey watched as her kids jumped up from the couch and made a beeline for the front door as soon as they heard the key in lock, she knew that they were good and that they were always going to be good. When Jay was met by the sound of tiny feet running towards their front door and being basically floored by two of his favourite people in the entire world, he knew that they were good and that they were always going to be good

Their eldest Zoe Grace had Haileys blonde mane and Jay's green eyes, she was five and was definitely daddy's girl, she was jay's little best friend, his shadow, and just like her father was accident prone. She was always climbing in the park, playing soccer and doing handstands which resulted in a lot of skinned knees and elbows, but she couldn't care less, she couldn't wait to get back to playing and climbing (her impatience while injured is definitely something she got from her father) sometimes she would 'forget' to mention to anyone that she had been hurt and play on, much to her parents' dismay. Her little brother was her best friend, of course he was annoying sometimes but that's just how little brothers are, but like any other big sister she would do anything for him. And of course, it was easier to get the candy off the counter now because all she had to do was lift him up and he could grab it and they could go hide in her room and stuff their faces.

Sebastian Alexander, Sebby for short, he was three and had Jay's dark hair that contrasted perfectly with the baby blue eyes that he had inherited from Hailey. Now Sebby may look like Jay (minus the eyes) but he was Haileys mini, he was his mama's boy. He was a sensitive baby, there was no doubt about that, he probably cried more watching his sister fall to the floor after being tackled in a soccer game than Zoe did about actually getting hurt. He was also one of the most outgoing little boys you'll ever meet, thanks to Hailey and Jay allowing their kids to always feel safe to talk about their emotions and feelings and mostly thanks to his older sister who spoke her mind. Hailey and Jay both adored the way Sebby followed Zoe around, his big blue eyes watching her intently hanging on to every word that the blonde said, his big sister was definitely his hero, and he would do anything for her, especially if there was candy involved.

However, much to Haileys dismay neither of her children had inherited Jay's freckles, but they were her babies, and they were perfect, and she wouldn't have them any other way.

Jay walked into their living room, where Hailey was tidying up the mess her kids had left as they went to greet their father and was somehow carrying both the five and three year old, he had apparently become a human jungle gym the second he had stepped in the door. Hailey laughed at the sight "okay you two, let's let daddy breathe while you go wash your hands to get ready to eat" she told them as Jay put them both down and they both ran off to wash their hands

"Sorry I'm so late" He apologised as he moved to kiss her, and she reciprocated with a smile

"It's okay, work is important, i understand that… Sergeant" she smirked, and he shook his head with a smile

"You're going to be the death of me… Detective" she let out a small laugh been thrown back into the memory of when he gave her the key to their very first apartment together, they stayed in each other's embrace for a while, listening to the giggles coming from the small bathroom in their hallway and the sound of water being splashed. Zoe and Sebby had decided to have an impromptu water fight, but they didn't want to stop it just yet, standing there listening to the sound of their kids' laughs was just enough for right now, well it was until Hailey let out a small groan.

"You good?" Jay asked slightly concerned

"Your daughters awake" Hailey told him and placed a hand on her bump and rubbed it gently "and she's punching me right in the ribs"

"Shes your daughter too you know" Jay quipped

"Whatever" Hailey rolled her eyes and laughed "this kid better become a professional boxer or something with the way she's punching out my ribs right now"

"Vetoing the idea that any child of mine becomes a professional boxer" He laughed "that would be way too stressful" Jay continued and was about to say something else but was cut off by the sound of his stomach rumbling

"You go plate the food, and start eating, I'll go make sure our crazy children havent drowned each other" Hailey told him.

After drying off the kids and eating dinner, which was just a simple paste that Hailey had pulled together because she felt too tired to make anything else, being almost eight months pregnant and all.

As the night drew to a close, with the kids already sound asleep Hailey crawled, well tried to crawl gracefully into bed, but failed miserably because of her bump which caused her husband to let out a deep belly laugh.

"This is your fault" she huffed jokingly, while trying to get comfortable on her side facing him as he got undressed over on his side of the room

"You realise it takes two to tango, right?" he joked as he put his watch on his bedside table and got under the covers next to her, she shook her head at him

"Hmph still, your fault"

"You know you weren't ever opposed to the acts that caused this to happen right?" he gave her a suggestive smirk and she screwed up her face and stuck her tongue out at him

"Maybe you are spending too much time with the kids" he gasped, and she shook her head, with a smile, at her husband once more

"I miss work sometimes" she told him truthfully

"I know you do baby, I know you do" he said as he rested a hand on her bump, gently rubbing his thumb backwards and forwards "but you gotta take it easy right now and then you can go back to work after she's born if that's what you want" Jay told her "but whatever you decide after she's born, I'm with you, every step of the way" he finished

Haileys first two pregnancies were a breeze, everything went pretty much perfect with both Zoe and Sebby. But with this baby, well to say it was a shock was an understatement, they weren't trying for a baby like they were with Sebby and Zoe so finding out she was three months pregnant after getting into it with a murder suspect really threw her, threw both of them, through a loop. Thankfully everything was perfectly fine and both Hailey and the baby were one hundred percent healthy, but that day Hailey decided she wouldn't be working at all until after the baby was born.

The thought about her not going back had crossed her mind a couple times while she was at home with the kids, she had spoken to Jay about it at times as well and he always reminded her that no matter what option she chose, he would have her back and support that decision no matter what.

"I love you Jay Halstead"

"I love you Hailey Halstead" he leant over to kiss her, hand still on her bump when he felt a fist (or foot? This kid was always in weird positions) hit his hand

"Oh, look who's awake" Jay smiled at the feeling of his daughter moving under his hand

"Don't get her too excited or she'll be beating up my ribs all night long"

"I won't don't worry" Jay said as he moved down the bed, so his face was level with her bump

"Hey sweetheart, please don't beat up your mama's ribs, she's working very hard to help you grow right now so you know, give her a break" he whispered at her bump just loud enough for Hailey to hear a smile forming on her face at his word. He pressed a soft kiss onto her bump, and she reciprocated with a foot (or fist?) pushing back.

"Maybe you could go back to sleep? While your mama tries to sleep because i know she's real tired right now so she needs to get her sleep and then maybe you can annoy her during the day instead" Hailey let out a chuckle at her husband's words

"See your mama thinks I'm funny, I can't wait till your here so that i can hear your laugh and see your smile" he told the bump "I can't wait to hold you and tell you all the stories of how badass your mama is, you're so lucky that she's your mama. I can't wait for you to meet your big brother and big sister, they already adore you so much and are asking for you every day, so you know let your mama rest now so she can help you grow, and you'll be here in no time"

Jay finished off with another kiss to her bump as Hailey wiped her tears that his words drew, he moved back up to her but the quickly moved back down to her bump "oh and you better not have red hair or your uncle Will, will never let me live this down, I mean I'll love you so much either way but do me a solid and save me from all the teasing of your uncle" his words were met with another push out from her baby in her stomach

"Think that means she's got my back with the no red hair thing then?" jay looked up at Hailey

"Maybe, maybe not, who knows" she gave him a small smile and shrugged slightly "I loved your little speech by the way"

"Yeah?" he asked as he moved back up to her level

"Yeah, our babies are so lucky to have you as their father" she told him

"And they're so lucky to have you as their mother"

"Sometimes I still can't believe were parents you know"

"Same, imagine telling us, what like twelve, thirteen years ago that we would be married with kids"

"Fourteen Years ago" she corrected him before joking "Time travelling back to when you didn't want to be partnered with me huh?"

"It's not that I didn't want to be partnered with you, I just didn't want a new partner in general, but you changed my life, and you saved my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way"

"I wouldn't either" she told him

"Good night, Hails"

"Good night, Jay"

Hailey rolled over, again not so gracefully, earning a snort from her husband while he turned off the lamp on his bedside table. With her back to her husband now he snaked his arm under her head so she could use it as a pillow like she always does and the other round her waist, hand, protectively over her bump. He moved closer so that her back was flush with his chest and that was how they stayed for the rest of the right. And maybe the baby did listen to her father because according to Hailey, the next morning, that was one of the most peaceful sleeps she had had in her entire pregnancy so far.
