The future.

The future the Sith Lords had been working patiently towards for the last thousand years involved the eradication of the Jedi Order and the reorganisation of the Galactic Republic into a Sith Empire. It was a simple premise, however Darth Tenebrous, Dark Lord of the Sith, had known it was not easy.

When Tenebrous had been an apprentice to his own Master, a doddering fool as it later turned out who was more fixated on creating a virus to separate the Jedi from the Force than creating viruses which could have lasting impacts and repercussions which could have helped serve the Grand Plan more fully - if his Master had created several viruses which targeted several alien races who were members of the Republic or in the Outer Rim territories, then the Sith could have used their contacts to tie the hands of all efforts to cure them, causing millions of deaths which would be used to further chip the Republic away, giving the Sith more plans to make it easier for the Sith to control the galaxy; Tenebrous was a scientist, and as a Bith, he had seen the potential for such weapons, which could have furthered scientific advancement but his Master was so fixated on the Jedi, it blinded him - he had learnt of the history of the Sith.

And he found many of them wanting.

While Tenebrous felt respect for more far-reaching Sith, both in the lineage of Darth Bane and his predecessors, many of them were so short-sighted and failed to see the future, they were more interested in gaining and holding onto power for their own ends. Non-Force sensitives were the same; how many Jedi arrogantly assumed that they were better than others?

As a Bith, Tenebrous had a rational view of the Force. He knew it was an energy field, and like all energy fields, it was easy to manipulate. It could be manipulated. And Tenebrous wanted to manipulate as well as dominate the Force, as all Sith Lords had striven to accomplish for thousands of years. Sith Lords and Emperors in the past had simply taken that power and became obsessed with what it could do.

It was that simple, but he believed they deserved to have died out when they did. Many of them had believed in the mysticism of the Dark Side of the Force, and even Darth Gravid's betrayal and strange turn towards the Light side was just merely thought to be a quirk of the Force designed to stomp out the complacency and weaknesses within the lineage which had begun with Darth Vectivius who hadn't bothered to take the Sith order's plans any further, so it never occurred to future Sith Masters to consider that Gravid's insane betrayal was down to a different matter entirely.

Tenebrous was unsure what it was that made Gravid go insane, but he knew it wasn't down to any kind of mystic hocus-pocus; like all Sith who had heard the Will of the Force, as a Bith he knew the Force was an energy field created by life within the universe, he knew the so-called Will was in fact the voices of many people who made up both the Light and the Dark, and Gravid had likely become susceptible to the Light as a result.

No matter.

Tenebrous didn't care. He was fascinated with the future, mostly because he could largely calculate what it could bring and what it could do. Tenebrous had become obsessed with those possibilities, and he had worked hard to ensure his desired outcomes were met using his minions to carry out set tasks, but the greatest prize he was after was the Chosen One, a being who would bring balance to the Force, and ever since the day he had discovered this being's existence, Tenebrous had become obsessed with the prospect of becoming the Chosen One. The Sith Lord wasn't sure exactly when this obsession began, but it went in line with his desire and obsession to shape the future of the galaxy.

Nearly every single Force cult had some kind of account of the Chosen One. As Tenebrous reigned over the Sith as Master, the Bith began looking into what every Force cult said about the Chosen One, being careful to mask his dark side aura so as not to alert the Jedi. What he had found was telling; many cults in the galaxy who followed the Force - Dark or Light, and rivalled or were beneath either the Jedi or the Sith, it didn't matter - all had heard of the Chosen One, and they knew the being would ensure the balance between the Dark and Light sides of the Force, and keeping both in check.

It didn't take Tenebrous long to discover the Jedi Order, naturally, had their own version and their own view of the Prophecy. In his mind, it was a further piece of proof that some people preferred mysticism over logic. The Jedi had come up with the belief that the Chosen One was one of their own and they would destroy the Sith, bringing about balance to the Force. When he had heard of their beliefs of what the Force should be like, Tenebrous was disgusted with their arrogance and their belief that the Chosen One just had to be a Jedi.

But the discovery also made him realise something important. For a thousand years almost, the Sith under the Rule of Two had been trying to return the Dark Side to prominence in the galaxy while overrunning and wiping the Jedi Order out at the same time. But the Jedi had their idea of what the Chosen One was meant to do, to wipe the Sith out and to keep the Light side in prominence, and Tenebrous came to a conclusion that was so rational and logical that it frightened even him.

The Force could be likened to a forest, with the light representing the life of trees, flowers, birds and animals, and the daylight, while the dark represented death, decay, and fear of being hunted by a predator, especially at night. And yet both were in balance. Once he had realised that, Tenebrous was left with a stark reality check that the Sith shouldn't smother the galaxy with the Dark Side since something of the Light would either remain or rise and threaten to topple the Galactic Empire the Sith had longed to create since the days of Darth Bane.

The Jedi believed that the Force was in balance, but in their arrogance, they ignored the reality of the dark side.

Tenebrous realised if he became the Chosen One, using an advanced form of Essence transfer, he could bring balance to the Force in the aftermath of the war which would see the Jedi wiped out and the Republic transformed into the Empire, but unlike the Sith of the past, he wouldn't just rule and destroy for its own sake, he would ensure the Force provided for all.

All he would need was to possess the Chosen One, and with his apprentice's own obsessive desire to live and rule forever, it would be possible. And once both sides of the Force were kept in check, Darth Tenebrous would ensure the Empire lasted forever while the galaxy lived in peace.
