Chapter 12

In Twinbrook, Xander and Don went together in the transporter, which was being driven by Ayesha and they stopped in front of the path, that led to the entrance of the hospital.

"That's the hospital," Mentioned Ayesha seeing Xander glimpse at the aquamarine-colored building, while Don was watching his friend curious to know, what he would say. "Do you think you can handle this, Xander?"

"Sure…...just…..we need to know, where to find the keys to the ambulances and…...how we are going through like this…..we're…...us," Xander commented making Don chuckle and pat his friend on the shoulder.

"The fun thing about the hospital is, it was designed by the same architect, that designed the one in Riverview, Sunset Valley, Hidden Springs, Barnacle Bay, and so on….sounds hilarious, but if you have at least been in three of them you notice, they're all the same in the inside. Sure there are a few minor details, but offices, rooms, elevators, and halls, are all the same," Said Don making Xander curious.

"So basically…...the…...reception is right at the entrance?" Questioned Xander looking at Don, then Ayesha answered the question.

"A reception always is at the entrance," Mentioned Ayesha. "Look, I don't know if you have ever been to the one of Sunset Valley, but the second room, behind the reception, where you enter, that leads you to the enrolment to the emergency admission. It has the door leading you there and the corridor leads you through several surgery rooms. Here it's the same, except you have a small garage here and a few ambulances,"

"Okay…..right Sunset Valley doesn't have any ambulances of their own," Mentioned Xander making Ayesha nod.

"Follow Don's lead, he knows what to do. I'll be taking the transporter away from here," Announced Ayesha watching Xander open the door to leave along with Don, which closed the door and watched Ayesha from the other side roll the window down. "Oh and remember, right behind the building is the police station, don't call any attention," Cautioned Ayesha making Xander bite his lip from knowing that right now, then Don gave the woman a thumb up and looked at Xander.

"Don't do that face. We got this!" Vowed Don making Xander nod a little tensed and looked at Ayesha closing the window and give him an okay, making him fake a smile to wave back at her. "Come on, the sooner we go the faster we're done," Remarked Don walking along the path with the friend, then entered the building to see a few people waiting for their turn at the reception, one holding his arm against the body, another one had his hand covered with a cloth and the first man at the queue had a slightly red face, which was an abrasion from a simple accident.

"What's the plan, Don?" Questioned Xander, then Don smiled and looked at the brunette.

"Wasn't it your idea?"

"It was yours getting here," Added Xander making Don chuckle.

"Come along, pussycat. We got this," Articulated Don making Xander frown.

"Just call me normally by my name…..please…." Asked Xander slightly insulted by the friend, then Don walked along with Xander behind the queue and entered directly into the next waiting room, where four people were waiting one of the people sat on a wheelchair with a pre-teen girl standing behind the chair holding a bunch of papers on the hand, while the woman on the wheelchair looked at the third person showing a picture of a photo album, which contained images of the three including other relatives. Don stopped by the next slide door to see a woman sit there on the computer with no client to attend and Don looked at the side to see the wheel of the door's lock, then moved it to keep it open, then watched the door slide aside. Don looked at Xander, then pointed at the next door inside the office, which was open and lead directly over a corridor into the garage of the ambulances. Take the keys, then inform me, when it's clear for us to leave," Said Don making Xander nod. "I'll distract her. Take the chance to pass through there,"

"Good," Reacted Xander watching Don enter into the office and greet the woman.

"Good afternoon miss. Is per coincidence my friend Jamie Jolina working here?" Questioned Don standing in front of the woman, which tilted her head confused.

"Erm….I don't recall someone with that name," Commented the secretariat. "Do you know, which field she is incorporated?"

"She told me, she would be here at the emergency section somewhere," Said Don watching the woman look at her computer screen to search for that name. Don looked back to see Xander sneak carefully behind the friend, which smiled as Xander was doing well, afterward the American man got into a corridor, which at first sight seemed small, but it actually a long one, but going in a horizontal way. Xander stepped into the garage of the ambulances to see no one was around. Xander looked along the garage to see a small cabin, where it had the outfits of the paramedic sorted in, afterward Xander walked up there while analyzing the surroundings to make sure no one was around, afterward smiled as he saw the garage door was open with a paramedic on the outside smoking along with another doctor. Xander continued his way, then swallowed hard wondering, if they could still make it through. Xander got into the room and saw the keys of the ambulance hanging all on a board, each signaled with a number. Xander smiled and grabbed the numbers 6 and 3. Xander took a look at the garage again to see no one was there, then looked at the little sign on the key to see just like the other vehicles it had the same American brand as the present ones. Xander moved the label attached to the key to see beside the brand's name also a person's name on it.

"Liberty? Questioned Xander, then realized, that he might be able to figure out, which vehicle the key would belong to. "Of course!" Xander passed by the clothings of the paramedics, then stopped and took a look at them, then pulled out one with the M size to spot there the family name of a paramedic, then Xander took the complete hung up outfit out, then surfed with his hand throughout the alphabetically sorted clothing to find another one in the same size, then took it out as well and made his way towards the ambulances, then checked out the first ambulance to see, if he would find anywhere the name and got to find one at the front. "Good, I already found Patience," Xander thought relieved, then opened the side door and threw the clothing into the vehicle. "Wait…..I…..have to….ugh…..I need a disguise to leave," Commented Xander looking at the clothes he threw into the vehicle. "Okay…..I just put the thing over myself. No one's going to notice anything,"

Back at Don, the woman was shaking her head as she searched for the woman's name on the list.

"I'm sorry, we don't have any Jamie Jolina on our list of workers. Not in the rescue team, not in the surgery team, not even outside of this area,"

"That's strange. I could have sworn, she said Twinbrook Foundation hospital," Commented Don, while the woman nodded listening to his conversation. "Is there a way to figure out, where else she could be?"

"Perhaps you should ask my friend at the reception," Commented the woman, making Don nod, then he jumped as his smartphone began to ring and he took it out to see Xander was calling, making Don smile relieved.

"Oh, it's Jamie!" Don lied making the woman look confused at the man, then Don attended it and whispered into the cell phone. "Boy play along…...Jamie! Where are you at? Didn't you say, you worked at the hospital of Twinbrook?"

"Uh what…...I mean….yes…..but…...five years ago," Xander faked his voice as good as possible.

"For real? I thought you were here right at the…...garage,"

"Yes, I am at the garage. I'm wearing my outfit and I think you should get one too,"

"What kind of outfit?" Asked Don a little confused, then looked at the corridor to see Xander dressed as a paramedic and holding up with the one arm another outfit up, while he held the phone with his other hand against his head. Don nodded, then pointed at the waiting room as a nurse had entered to follow a patient out of there. "Oh, that's the woman there! That's my Jamie!" Shouted Don and the secretariat got up to grab Don on the shoulder, then move her hand to order him to leave. "No, look, that's her!" Don said, while the woman shook her head and returned to her office.

"I'm going to call security," Said the woman making Don gasp, then looked at the person limping beside the nurse to the outside and Don immediately used his foot to trip the nurse down, followed by the patient, which yelled as he landed on his knee.

"Oh god, the patient fell down on his hurt knee!" Warned Don looking at the woman, which had already heard the male voice complaining, then got out to find the two on the ground. As the secretariat got down to help, Don looked at the lock of the door and spun it around to lock it, then made his way through the office to get to the garage, while the door got locked.

Don got into the garage, afterward took from Xander's hands the outfit, and clapped him behind his neck.

"Well done," Complimented Don taking the jacket of the frame to put it on. "Did you have to do something special?"

"I took these clothing, 'cause at least two staff members out there and it would be good to be wearing something, less suspectful," Cited Xander making Don nod. "You have to pick the second vehicle counting from here. It's called Liberty as seen on the cars,"

"Nice," Commented Don moving down to use the cargo pants to put over himself, then Xander held the key out waiting for his friend to get dressed afterward he took the key and walked along with Xander in two different directions and got into the car.

"Wow, this was actually so far," Told Xander himself as he got to sit down in the driver's seat and analyzed the extras the vehicle had inside compared to the transporter, that belonged to Nick's company.

"Dude, turn your phone off!" Ordered Don shrieking Xander, which took the phone afterward out of his pocket's pants.

"I almost had a heart attack!" Exaggerated Xander, making Don chuckle.

"Don't worry, I'm pretty sure somewhere you've got a defibrillator," Joked Don making Xander widen his eyes and remember his mother in front of him being reanimated by the paramedics with said device.

"Everything is going to be fine, Xander," Tamara's voice rang inside Xander's head.

"Mr. Bachelor, how high do you think is the chance for a woman her age to survive?" Questioned Bebe, followed by an unsure mumble from the journalist.

Xander placed his fingers in his eyes trying to avoid remembering the incident from the said night, then picked up the cell phone to speak to Don.

"Hey…...I….could we just talk about something else? I…..don't really like hospital jokes," Xander began.

"Jokes on you, buddy. You started them,"

"I know I did, I didn't really think, which answer I was going to get,"

"I just said, you had a defibrillator to revive you,"

"Yes, that's the problem. It didn't help. Please, just…..let's talk about something else," Xander's voice said, followed by a crack.

Don, which sat inside the other ambulance found Xander's behavior strange, then looked at the interior of the ambulance and thought about Xander asking for another topic.

"Look…...eventually, when we get back to the warehouse...I think the crew needs to check the devices here out. You know, in case people notice it was stolen and it might be able to be tracked down in a way or another. What do you think?"

"You guys have people, that can do that?" Questioned Xander.

"Yes…..well Ayesha knows mechanics, I do, Claire, Robbie, almost every one of us," Explained Don. "Look, this plan was your idea, you got Ayesha's number, call her and tell her we got it,"

"I will," Xander said turning the call off, then heard Xander put on the engine of the ambulance, afterward before Xander did the same he opened the telephone book of his cellphone and pressed the first number to call Ayesha, then activated the voice function, waiting for her to answer. Xander observed Don leave the garage slowly, afterward, Xander turned on the engine, then put his seatbelt on and heard Ayesha speak from the cell phone.

"Hey Xander, how did it go?" Questioned the Arabic descendant woman.

"It went well," Responded Xander. "I don't know how Don's part with the conversation went, but he seemed to get out of there with nobody running behind us. We're taking two ambulances and according to Don our crew might need to check the interior, because of these…..uhm additional features of an ambulance for further issues,"

"I know what you mean. We might need to check the interior of the back of the vehicle as well, I'm pretty sure it's quite filled with emergency materials,"

"Uh probably. I didn't check. I just picked two random keys and they seem more or less the same size as our company's transporter,"

"Okay, just follow the road, I'm waiting on the side of the road for you,"

"Great, the first one coming is Don," Said Xander leaving behind Don slowly noticing the paramedic look at the blue-eyed man, which faked a smile at the man, then watched him blow a kiss at him making Xander look away surprised at the man's deed. "I wasn't expecting that,"

"Who are you talking to?" Asked Ayesha while Xander stopped before entering the road.

"A paramedic stood here on the outside and sent me a kiss as if he knew me from somewhere," Commented Xander making Ayesha chuckle.

"Aww cute, you have a woman interested in you,"

"Uh…..that was a guy," Corrected Xander entering the road to follow Don in the ambulance.

"Oh…..well, that's nice either,"

"You don't find it a little odd, that there are people out there, that like the same gender?" Questioned Xander.

"No, why?"

"Just asking," Responded Xander. "Back when I used to go to school, we kind of saw those kinds of people as…..uhm…..sick, you know,"

"I know, what you mean, but that's nothing bad. At the end of the day, it's just love. No matter with who it is, the only thing, that matters there is, that they,"

"Love each other,"

"Are happy," Added Ayesha making Xander furrow his eyebrows expecting to have the same answer as the woman.

"I always thought the first one was important," Commented Xander.

"You have never been in a relationship, right?" Questioned Ayesha with a chuckle.

"Well, not exactly,"

"English please?"

"That was English! I mean, I didn't exactly have any girlfriend before, but I had crushes, just I went nowhere with them," Commented Xander.

"Good, good. Is there anything else, we need to know about this task?"

"Because of me and Don or because of the entire task?"

"Uh did something happen?" Examined Ayesha.

"No, of course...actually no. Perhaps I got a little, itty bitty angry? I think it was my fault, but...just...never mind,"

"Speak, no one's listening to us,"

"You're right...alright...Do you remember, when you said I should…... when I feel strange to just cry or talk with somebody?"

"Yes, did Don say something wrong?"

"Well, he only said it, because I had spoken about it. I just meant it as a joke and he jokingly replied back. I just…...reacted bad and remembered seeing my mother dead….."

"Oh…...you know, after we arrive at the garage we can talk in private. If you have the need to cry or anything, you can do it in front of me. I won't judge you,"

"I think I would like that," Confessed Xander, then looked aside to spot the transporter of the warehouse pass and he spotted Ayesha driving it, focused on the road, then she looked behind to see the ambulances, thereafter encountered Xander inside the transporter, then lifted her hand as well. Xander copied her deed with a smile and placed his hand down on the steering wheel again.
