Trying To Say Goodbye
An: Dont own Power Rangers.
The entire world has lost a hero.
In Memory of Jason David Frank
Eternally the worlds Green Ranger.
May he rest in peace.
Kimberly sighed softly as she sat at an empty table. The clock on the wall ticking away the lonely minutes since he went. Things weren't as bright as they used to be. Jason had been by earlier trying to get her away from everything if only for a moment. She'd been the one to take care of everything as per his will and it had drained her. Her tears had stopped days ago. Tomorrow they would lay him to rest. These last couple days had felt like a nightmare that she couldn't wake up from. He'd been her rock for so long when they'd first met and now that he was gone her ground was unstable. Getting up she wandered the house she'd only been a handful of times. There were so many memories here that it made her heart light even just for a little bit.
Her life was on autopilot as she got ready the next day for the funeral. Everything was a blur until she stood beside the grave. The people who didn't know their secret had already departed. They hadn't lowered the coffin into the ground yet as per her request so the Rangers who'd come could say their last goodbyes without prying eyes. His headstone marker wasn't done yet and a placeholder marker was there until his stone could be finished.
The wind stirred around her making her look around in confusion. More cars showed up. Her friends were standing beside her. More mourners stepped out and moved towards her. These people she didn't recognize they hadn't been at the wake or the funeral service. They piled out by groups. They bore the signature black but something caught her eye. They bore another color. Jason grabbed her arm.
"Jason?" she asked her friend in confusion.
"They came," he breathed.
"They?"
"Rangers far and wide."
It made something inside her ache more seeing these people she didn't know come to say goodbye to him in their own way. She stepped forward not knowing what to say to these people that she was sure came from a far distance, places and times away. Jason stepped away from her for a moment and greeted a man with a bit of red on his clothing. They exchanged some words before he directed him towards her.
"Kim this is Andros."
"It's nice to meet you. Though I wish it was under better circumstances."
He took her offered hand and shook it gently.
"As do I."
He gave her a sad smile before turning to the coffin. Moving towards it he bumped the lid with side of his fist before laying down a red rose. The others behind him introduced themselves and shook her hand or hugged her. Each Ranger bumped their fist against the coffin and laid a flower down in one of Tommy's signature colors. She was trying not to get choked up again at the display before her. So many people that he touched their lives in some way and left an impression through stories or by action. They formed a circle around the original five of them. Aisha, Rocky, Kat and Adam stood close by them. Her eyes traveled the circle.
"Thank you all for coming. Even though his journey ended abruptly he left his footsteps in our lives in one way or another. To keep him alive once in awhile look to the sky, to the stars or a soaring falcon and remember him as he was, as we knew him and smile. Send a thought and know he's watching over us until we can join him later down the road."
She moved forward with a pin that she'd had made some time ago for each post he took as a Ranger. Taking a deep breath she moved forward and slammed the first pin into the coffin lid not flinching as the pin cut her hand a bit to leave blood on the coin shaped pin. It was the Dragonzord coin.
"The Green Ranger the Dragonzord. Jason…"
She handed him a familiar coin. He sniffed and nodded and moved forward and slammed the next pin in the lid.
"The White Tiger Ranger."
Jason stepped back and bowed his head.
"Rocky."
He stepped forward and took the pin from her and slammed the pin against the coffin lid.
"The White Falcon Ranger."
"Adam."
She held out the pin to him and he laughed softly at the coin trying to fight his own tears as he slammed his fist against the lid.
"Red Zeo Ranger V."
Adam rejoined her. She looked at the next pin in her hand.
"TJ," she called.
The man stepped forward and took the pin.
"Red Turbo Ranger."
He moved forward and slammed his pin into the lid. TJ squeezed her shoulder before returning to his team's side.
"Conner."
The young man looked at those around them before stepping towards her. She held out her hand to him. He like the others had to smile at the coin in his hand before nodding his head and stepping forward to slam the coin into the lid in a straight line down the center on the top.
"Black Dino Ranger."
"Thank you," she murmured softly as he rejoined his team. "Thank you again all of you for coming."
She moved forward and nodded to the men lowering the coffin down. Once the coffin was down she kissed the rose in her hand and tossed it in with a handful of dirt.
"Fly high lord of the skies until we can soar together again one day."
She watched as her teammates threw handfuls of dirt in too. Aisha, Kat, Kira, and Tanya also threw roses in. The other Rangers bowed their head and started walking away. She was so lost in thought that someone grabbed her hand. She looked up in confusion at the man in front of her. He pulled out a handkerchief and wrapped her hand up.
"He wouldn't want you to be sad forever."
"Trent right?" she asked him softly.
"Yes. You are the graceful Crane, stand up. He wouldn't want you to clip your wings with your sadness."
She jerked a bit at his words. He gave her a sad smile before walking away. She watched him go and stared at the space the White Dino Ranger had stood.
"Everything okay."
"Yes, just a bit lost."
"I think we all are. What did the kid have to say to you? It seemed to rattle you a bit."
"He told me You are the graceful Crane, stand up, and that He wouldn't want me to clip my wings with my sadness."
"He's right after all."
Jason gathered her into a hug. She was fighting her tears with a vengeance. She hadn't thought she had anymore tears to shed. He led her towards Tommy's beat up old Jeep.
"Do you want to come with us…"
"No, I need to start cleaning…"
"Kimberly you can leave it for another time. The place is yours now."
She took a deep breath softly and shook her head.
"I'll be okay I promise."
Jason didn't look convinced but nodded his head and followed the other Rangers back to the car. The journey back to his house was quite. Opening the door she walked in. She turned a light or two on. The place still smelled like him and it made her insides quiver. She wanted to be angry with him for leaving her, but the anger fizzled out quickly knowing he'd been fighting something that couldn't be overcome. It tore her up on the inside but at least now he wouldn't suffer anymore. She sat down in an old worn chair he used. There was a pair of glasses on top of a book. Her fingers gently trailed over the items.
Leaning her head back she closed her eyes and allowed her tears to fall. Screeching made her look up on the window seal sat a white falcon. It flapped its wings wildly a couple times before flying away. She got up and went to the window. She could almost see him standing under the tree just a couple yards away from her. It was almost like he was standing there that smirk that made her heart race on his face. He waved over his shoulder and the image vanished.
"We'll meet again someday," she promised softly. "My beloved Falcon."
Her hand clenched around the coins as she raised her head and allowed tears to fall again.
