Trying To Say Goodbye
Chapter 2: Lurking Shadows
A:n: Don't own power rangers.
Also i know this story could've stood by itself as a short story but decided to make more of it.
Kimberly stood at his stone. They'd finally been able to finish it and it was a beautiful memorial to the fallen Legend. Someone had left red and white roses wrapped with a black and green ribbon on top of the stone. All the other Rangers had returned to their respective places doing whatever it was they did when not saving the world. The only ones left in town were Jason and Tommy's Dino Thunder Team. She was glad the three of them had each other to help them through this sadness. Though, none of them came to the Command Center. With the fall of Mesagog they returned to their normal lives as it should've been.
A tingle ran down her neck making her tense. For the last few weeks she'd felt like she was being stalked and it was getting on her last nerves. To protect her other home she stayed at Tommy's place. The last thing she needed was a battle at her other home. She hoped it wasn't another threat. The battle between good and evil was unending but for once she wanted to be allowed to mourn. Reaching up she brushed her fingers over the power coins that hung at her neck. One being the Crane and on the backside the Falcon. Underneath her finger tips the power inside the coin tingled. If someone was looking for a fight she'd give them one. Bringing the coins to her lips she kissed them and then kissed her finger tips and touched the top of the cold stone. Even after all these years apart she still loved him and wished in the end that things might've been a little different. Though, nothing could take back his death. Through her and the other Rangers he helped or worked with would carry on his legacy through their actions as Rangers.
"Watch over me because I think trouble is coming," she murmured softly.
Turning she headed back to the house. The feeling that something was wrong kept nagging at her. She moved to the library and sat down in a big comfy chair leaning back in the old chair staring off into space. It still smelled like him. Even though in the end they hadn't been close as they'd once been her heart ached fiercely. The pain wouldn't ever stop aching in her heart. There was a set of glasses on a stack of books and it made her smile softly. Even though she should've gone home she couldn't find it in herself to leave this place. Getting up she went to the basement steps and entered the codes to get to the Command Center. The days after his funeral she'd had Billy and Ethan program a super complex defensive system to protect the basement and all that was in it. Shutting the door behind her she moved down the stairs slowly as the locks clicked into place behind her. She'd also asked them to install a box in one of the other rooms that couldn't be opened except by her and it was well camouflaged. A day after the funeral a box showed up in the house and inside was a sword and a crystal that looked like it had liquid silver in it. The sword and gem held some kind of power she wasn't sure of, nor was she sure why she'd been sent the two things, but the instructions said to keep them hidden and safe. The hand writing hadn't been his so who had sent it was still a mystery to her.
She was getting restless and the only thing that could counter that was going through her exercises. Even though she hadn't kept in shape as gymnastics demanded she kept herself in shape to be able to fight. It had been something that had centered her after her accident once she was well enough to be able to fight again. Getting the practice mats out she laid them down. Going to the wall she turned on the stereo and wrapped her hands. On the wall were various forms weapons so she grabbed a staff and slowly went through familiar exercises. This place spoke of him and she allowed herself to listen as she moved as he taught her. For a few moments she could almost feel him there with her whispering softly to her as he guided her through the exercises. It had been awhile since she'd allowed herself to do this. It took her back to her Ranger days when things were simpler to an extent and she had the love of a great man. That was in the past and for once she just wanted to remember when he'd stood beside her as they were meant to be.
The familiar sound of teleporting made her tense in mid strike. The last time they had an intruder in a Command Center it had been a nightmare made real. They'd almost lost Zordon more than once. The man was clad completely in black ninja attire and bore some kind of strange symbol on his shoulder in silver. She prepared herself to fight. Getting her phone out of her pocket she hit speed dial for Jason as the intruder kicked it out of her hand. Thankfully it started ringing before it hit the ground and the black and green case stood up to the kick.
"You're trespassing and I suggest you leave before I make you."
"He won't be able to save you in time girl."
"Kimberly?" she heard from across the room.
"I don't need Jason to save me. But you'll need him to save you."
"You're just a little girl and your skills are weak."
"Get the hell out of this house," she snarled loudly.
The man reached down and grabbed her phone. Kimberly became wary.
"It's too late Red Ranger the Crane will fall as it was always meant to be."
He hung up and threw the phone on the computer pad. The phone started ringing. The intruder looked over their shoulder at the ring tone. She didn't say anything to it. It was something from him the summoning song for the Dragonzord. She readied herself for this battle mentally. Even though she was confident in her abilities but there were times when she knew something was off and this battle would be short lived.
"He can't save you now, not anymore."
Her eyes narrowed. Only someone from her Ranger days would know what that sound meant and it set her on edge.
"He trusted me to protect myself when I needed to and to rely on others when I couldn't."
"You will fall."
"Who are you?"
"Your stalling and it won't work. There's no one left to save you."
"What do you want?"
The man blurred forward with a speed she knew she wouldn't be able to counter very well. Kimberly inwardly cursed but prepared herself anyway. Whatever this guy wanted she would do her hardest to make sure he didn't get it. She went to morph but his hand slammed her to the ground making her grunt in pain. The staff she'd been holding skittered across the ground. She managed to get him away from her and rise to try again. The fight was over in minutes and the sound of wood cracking behind her accompanied by blinding pain. The person caught her and lowered her gently to the ground. He leaned over her and his hardened brown eyes stared at her.
"You're lucky your death isn't coming yet. At least not by my hand."
"What do you want?" she tried again as she fought the oncoming darkness.
"Something you'll never know."
Her sight was starting to dim, but she heard someone coming in and starting to fight with the other guy. Blurs of red and blue flashed before her eyes but they managed to send the other guy running. Someone dressed in yellow leaned her against them and pressing something to the back of her head.
"Hey stay awake," she heard.
The person's face was blurry to her vision. Her world went dark as she lost the fight to the call for sleep.
