Hello! This is gonna be my first dip into the realm of RWBY fanfiction. I've always been a fan of writers expanding upon Monty's own ideas and characters. Ever developing them into archetypes that I've grown to love. This story is meant to be another mesh of two genres that I love. Detective Noir and the fantasy sci fi realm that is RWBY. My story takes place in an alternative Universe for Jaune and other characters. However the core story of RWBY will remain. My story will just intertwine with the main cast when applicable. The majority of the story will be taking a look at Vale as a City.

DISCLAIMER: I do own a limited edition Pumpkin Pete's Cereal Box signed by Pyrrah Nikos, but I do not own the RWBY Franchise, these characters, or any of the references mentioned here.

Credits to Coeur Al'Aran for the names and locations pertaining to Jaune Arc's Background. Man is the GOAT of Arc Fics.

"Atlas, a City on the Edge of forever. Rising lofty above the dark dim streets of Mantle below it. Ever developing, ever improving, ever advancing the lives of those on Remnant. Though not everyone would like to achieve those things the right way. While dust miners get their hands dirty going deep for crystals below the surface. Others stick their hands down the wrong hole. Spiraling into a world of ne'er do wells and criminals. Were the only profit that comes in, if from another's hard work.

That's where I come in, I'm Robert Mon'day, I'm a-"

Pausing the audiobook on his scroll, Jaune stretched for a moment. The rocking of the train carriage stumbling him out of his nap. Grabbing his suitcase off the top rack, he followed the long queue of passengers headed out to the station. A yawn escaped his mouth as he stepped onto the platform. Glancing about he glanced at signs pointing towards the arrivals area.

Taking the hint he walked down the long platform to reach the large gilded hall which was the Station's interior. Stone and Marble gilded the arches and floors with skylights letting in the morning sun as it began its steady rise above the city.

"Two days of buses and trains, I knew I should have taken a Bullhead.."

Lamenting over the commute from Ansel, he brushed that all to the side as he stepped to the turnstile doors. Walking through the exciting to a vibrant morning glow.

Vale. The center power in Remnant. It almost felt too good to be true to Jaune. Looking back he felt like he wanted to jump up for joy and run all the way to Beacon. However he wasn't going to Beacon. He wouldn't be going to any Huntsman School at all. To think, he was gonna go to the Red Light district and have someone forge some fake transcripts. No, that wasn't what an Arc would do. Not when there were perfectly legal options available to him. So he turned to the alternative, the Government. Specifically the Vale Police Academy, where Vale's finest are molded into who they are.

However, he didn't know where to start. The Academy Initiation wouldn't start til the next day so he was left entirely to his own devices. A day in Vale before 6 months of grueling training. All to him. With the Lien he had in his wallet he set off.

Location: Vale Historical District and Beacon Academy

Hiking it across the city, Jaune took in the sights. From City Hall, the Clock Tower, the former residence of the King of Vale. The city felt enormous compared to Ansel. The brick row houses which stretched for miles. All while in the distance stood Beacon Academy. The academy loomed over the rooftops. It felt like a calling, something attracted him to walk closer and closer to gates til he stood across. There students both new and returning began heading through. Jaune watched as these future Hunters and Huntresses prepared themselves for a year of learning and training. He wanted to join them.

In retrospect he always wanted to be a Huntsman. Ever since his father was able to teach him how to spar he wanted to be a Huntsman. Training so hard and self studying to see if he had a chance. Though he had about 6 other siblings ahead of him before his parents could fully realize it. So at his 17th birthday he took his things and headed off to Vale. Now his mother and father were apprehensive, but his Father, despite wanting his son to take a different path, yielded and allowed him to achieve his dreams. Unlocking his aura as a farewell gift to send his own son off into the world.

Beacon Academy, or any other Academy would have flat out rejected him. Even after showing good marks on the entry quiz. Jaune Arc had nothing to his name in regards to real combat skills. But the Police Department would always be willing to hire those who had the aptitude. And so here he was.

Having had enough of day dreaming he carried on his way to find some lunch in the city. Soon finding himself at a noodle stand on the side where a elderly man seemed to be slinging out bowls like no tomorrow. Taking a seat on a stool by the counter he raised his finger as if to order. The man nodded and went back to cooking. Setting his suitcase and backpack down by his feet, Jaune rested for a moment as he began to contemplate the things he should do next.

Glancing around the stall there seemed to be other folks taking their lunches there. Officer workers, a construction worker, even a Nurse. Seemed that almost anyone and Vale could be found here. Though his train of thought was halted as a yell could be heard just up the street.

"Ahh! Someone help, he's taken my handbag!" cried the voice of a woman who seemed to be in distress.

Peering from the stall he saw a man in typical goon clothes fleeing the scene. Weighing his options for a moment he dashed off from the stall to chase down the thief. Giving chase the woman who was in a manic state pointed in the general direction in which the man had dashed off to. Taking the hint Jaune followed along. Seeing a glimpse of the man ahead by a block before rounding a corner into an alley.

Sprinting in pursuit he followed him into the alley only to be tripped to the ground. The thief, having expected him, prepared a trap. Jaune slid to the ground before hurriedly picking himself up.

The man glared with a stank to his eyes. Reaching into his pocket for some sort of item but not withdrawing it. "Kid, if you know what's good for yah, you'll walk away. Now. Don't be a dumbass."

Jaune froze slightly as he saw the man ready himself. Jaune knew he was screwed. He had no armor and no weapon in a situation which was stacked against him.

"Sir, I'm gonna ask you to drop the bag. That ain't yours." He said as he gave a fighting stance. Perhaps a little intimidation would help things along.

"Oh man you have got to be the dumbest kid I've ever met." With a cheshire grin the man withdrew a small stubby pistol. Aiming it slowly at Jaune. "I warned you."

Glaring down the barrel of the gleaming gun, Jaune felt a sense of dread. Things flashed before him in a flurry. He was gonna have to fight. His aura was large yes, but against a ranged weapon he knew this was gonna be a short lived fight.

Until.

"Alright creep! Drop the gun, we've got you surrounded. You're not gonna walk out of here with all your bones intact if you make one wrong move." Ordered a voice behind Jaune. Blinking for a moment he looked behind the thief to see that a Police Officer was standing behind him with his weapon drawn. Giving a quick glance behind him there was another officer. Two Vale Police Officers had come to his rescue. It felt like a God send.

The Thief crashed from his adrenaline high. Now sweating bullets as he saw his chance to escape with profit in tow fall exponentially. After a few tense moments he tossed the handback to the side and the pistol. Submitting to the officers who quickly apprehended him and took him away.

Jaune's knees buckled at the end of it. Feeling his heart racing as he tried to catch his breath after such an ordeal. One of the officers walked over to him and knelt beside him. Patting his back with a smile.

"Well now, Son. I think you just helped us with that creep over there."

Nodding slowly Jaune responded. "Y..Yeah. I. Uh, thank you.."

"Son, don't worry about it too much. You seemed to handle yourself well. We're going to need your statement along with the woman whose bag was just stolen. It'll only be a moment."

"Alright then, Officer."

Location: Vale Police Department

Time: 2:00 PM

"No kidding, huh. You're really heading into the Academy?"

"Yes, Sir."

Jaune found himself sitting in the break room of the VPD. After giving his statement to the Officers they had taken interest in the young man after revealing his intentions in Vale. A sense of comradery formed then which led to them bringing him to the station.

"Now it makes a lot more sense, Kid. Lady said you just dashed in moments after she screamed for help." The second officer stated as he sipped a cup of water. "Got some good reflexes on you."

"Yeah, my Dad's been training me since I was young. Though nothing intense. He's a Huntsman and all."

"Damn and look at you, becoming a Police Officer. I'd knock you over the head for ditching the higher pay but look at me. I'd be insulting myself in the mirror." The Officer said with a hearty laugh, his mustache twitched.

"I always wanted to help people, it's just I don't have any other combat experience from other academies so.. I went to the Police Academy and they accepted me."

The two officers nodded in understanding. "Fret not kid, you're not the first coming in here like this. Hell I knew some guys back in my graduating class just like you! They've made the Detective desk so you've got a good future ahead of you."

"Yeah you better listen to him, also before we forget. I'm Officer Banks, and my Pep Talk partner here is Officer Fairchild."

Jaune nodded and smiled at the Officers. "It's great to meet both of you. And thank you for the encouragement. I just hope I'll be able to go through training well."

"No worries kid, if you pay attention well and have the stamina to boot, you'll be alright." Banks said with a grin.

"Just don't worry about competition as much. They like to press that into you all but the goal is teamwork. You're gonna be working with these people, not trying to see who can slay the most grim or beat the most asses like in Huntsman Academies." Fairchild responded.

Jaune took in the information from the Officers to heart. Almost making it seem like being a Huntsman was perhaps a little too much. Though from a local Peace Officer's perspective being a Huntsman must have been like becoming a SuperHero like in the comics.

Some of his reservations on the program seemed to fade as he continued to talk with the Officers. Though it was short lived as they had to get back on the Beat. Bidding Jaune farewell they shared with him a hotel nearby that was well priced for him to stay the night at.

Taking that offer he left the station in high spirits. Now determined more than ever to become one of Vale's finest.

And that's it! Chapter one wrapped up with a neat little bow. Next chapter is the first day of the Academy. Initiation and breaking the new Cadets in hard. Will Jaune survive? Will he vomit on his instructor's boots? Stay tuned and find out!

Now for the timeline of the story, this takes place roughly around 7 months before episode one of volume one. Giving Jaune to grow more before the main story rolls around. Anywho that's all from me. Take it easy and stay safe!
