Location: VPA | Parade Grounds

Time: 5:50 AM

Once Group C was assembled outside in the hall, Moore stood at the head of the line. After giving a quick head count before she led them off towards the exit to the courtyard outside. Assembling them into two lines and spacing them out appropriately to allow enough movement room for each individual. wanting attention fully back on her she began her set of drills to break in her new charges.

"Okay you sorry saps, rise and shine because it's time to get in your daily exercise! You're gonna be doing this with me every single day that you're here!" She grinned happily much to the chagrin of the somewhat clammy Cadets. "Bar holidays and graduation, any who let's see if you all got some strength in you all. Give me 50 each of Push Ups, Sit Ups, and Squats."

With a tweet of her whistle the group began to run through the pattern of exercises. Some went for different ones first, though in the end the goal was to get them all done with energy to spare. Amongst them Jaune began to pace himself as he got through his first set of sit ups, starting to feel a burn as the early morning work both wore him out but kept him up.

Glancing out to the Cadets she smirked and looked at her watch.

"Oh did I forget? This is timed, you have 5 minutes to complete all of the exercise. Then it's a brisk 3 mile jog around Campus! Hop to it!"

A collective groan from the Cadets rang out as they increased their pace. By the end of those five minutes they sat there panting on the ground as they caught their breath. Only to be brought back to their feet as they were rushed out on their 3 mile job.

Jogging in the left side column Jaune felt slightly winded from the blitz from earlier. Though he kept pressing on as his aura seemed to help keep his endurance up as the group jogged down the roads which lead through the Academy. For the most part his first day was almost everything he expected it to be. Sergeant Moore was only looking into the capabilities of each of the Candidates. All in the effort to weed them out and hone their skills. Or perhaps she was as sadistic as an Atlas Drill Instructor. Either or it was hard and it was tough.

"Half a mile, folks! Dig those soles in cause it's only two and a half more to go.

"Hooray."

Location: VPA | Mess Hall

Time: 8:00 AM

Three miles later and another set of drills, the Cadets were allowed to have their breakfast in the Mess. The rest of the way was going to be instructional learning. There in the Mess Hall were seated all the Groups for that Class. Four Groups in total numbering 10-12 each.

Seated at their tables, Group C engaged in some conversation between one another. Not to keep things silent the entire time. The first to break the ice was the cat faunus.

"So, I don't suppose we should all get to know each others names?"

The group turned to each other in agreement. Sounding off the names from the head of the table to the end.

"Bernie."

"Mavis."

"Jaune."

"Cardin."

"Mary."

"Sean."

"Lilah."

"Jeb."

"Charlie."

"Alice."

"Petra."

"James."

Glancing about the table, Jaune did his best to take down all of their names and put it to memory. Petra, Alice, James and Charlie being more memorable as they were faunuses. Charlie being a cat faunus with notable ears and a tail to him. Soon things fell quiet at the table once again. Prompting Jaune to add on to the conversation as the others ate.

"What brought you all to the Academy."

Amongst the group came similar ideals of Public Service and Dreams. Jaune being amongst the latter. Though Charlie and Cardin seemed to be here based on familial ties to the Department. Charlie speaking out about his father.

"My Dad's a detective on the homicide desk, he's always been an inspiration and a push for me to join the Police Force. Though I have my eyes set on joining the Tactical Response team rather than being a gumshoe."

Cardin looked towards Charlie, with a straight face. Though a small frown formed around his mouth though he held his composure.

"Yeah, my Pop. He was on the force." Leaving it at that.

The silence was palpable after Cardin's brief response. Though no one pressed further beyond it and continued eating til their time in the Mess Hall was up. Some jokes were cracked which seemed to lighten the mood for everyone. Jokingly remarking Group C as "Group Crap" with only the most loving of intents.

The correspondence was shattered as Sergeant Moore ushered them out of the Mess Hall to their Quarters to be changed into their regular academy Uniforms.

Location: VPA | Classroom C

Time: 9:10 AM

"Alright Cadets, it's time for you to learn the reason as to why you are all here. I'm going to let the instructional video run. Should be about 45 minutes so don't sleep through it. We'll be going over the material in the video alongside other elements. Now without further delay, I'll roll the tape."

Dimming the lights down in the classroom the display board in the front flickered like an old movie reel. Counting down with beeps until the video started. An image of the current Police Commissioner of Vale stepped into view as he stood in front of his desk.

"Welcome Cadets, to the Vale Police Academy. The Vale Police Department's instructional wing, dedicated to the training and refinement of Vale's Finest. This will be the first of many videos that will be shown throughout the course of your tenure here.

Today we will be going over: The History and the Purpose of the Vale Police Department. A proud legacy that you will be carrying out once you leave these hallowed halls and patrol the streets of this fair city."

The screen faded from the Commissioner to a documentary style presentation of old video footage and images.

"The V.P.D. was founded over 500 years ago. Back when Vale still had just dissolved its monarchy. Back the King's Guard and the Army of Vale kept the peace in the Kingdom. Though without a King to rule. The newly established Council of Vale went about creating groups meant to take on the responsibilities which were formerly taken up by those chosen by the King. The Vale Defense Corps being one of the many founding departments within our system of Government. Our initial goals were to maintain order within the main city of Vale, along with her satellite cities, towns and villages. Over the years they too have established their own Departments, leaving us to serve primarily the City of Vale. However that doesn't mean we still don't serve the Kingdom. Our duties still span beyond the City as we patrol the main roadways, guard trains, and protect airports all across the Kingdom

"Former guards of the King were enlisted to fill the ranks of the VDC, providing a veteran force to serve and protect Vale and her citizens. Our first leader, in modern terms a Commissioner, was Robert Paul Toussaint. The former Chief Knight of King Oliver the Revolutionary. Toussaint wrote down a code of arms for any and all who served the VDC. Some of which carry on to this day with a few modern changes. All of this can be found in the handbook that you will be handed once this video ends."

The video switched to a line of the uniforms which spanned the Department's History.

"Throughout history, we've had to adapt and change to the many needs and requirements that are needed of us. Along with that the ever evolving technology around us. From crude pikes and matchlocks, to bolt action dust rifles and sabers, to the automated revolver that can fire all types of dust and an extendable charged baton. That and uniform make today's modern Police Officer."

The video went on and on about the smaller fine details of the department's history. From key players, to major cases, and some of the seedy underbelly of the VPD's History.

Once the video ended and the lights came back on. Sergeant Moore handed out to each Cadet their Police Handbook. Their main source of guidance for their time in the Academy and beyond. Despite the importance of such a book, no one seemed prepared to cover the contents from front and back. But they would have to, they needed to if they wanted to become Officers of the law.

CUT! Part 2 is out to the presses and boy it's a doozy. Shooting life into a fictional organization from an Anime which doesn't even focus on it does take a toll on you. I'd like to keep things down to Remnant in terms of the capabilities of the VPD and its founding and development are critical elements.

Anyhow I think I'll sign off here. I've gotten a lot of reviews lately and in terms of responding I'll either respond here or PM you. Either or depending on how much I want to write.

But stay tuned for more Guarding Vale: A VPD Story.
