Welcome back to another wonderful chapter of Guarding Vale: A VPD Story.

Shorter chapter than the last but we've just reached the halfway point before the end of the Academy Arc. So half of the tutorial completed, a pretty lengthy one huh? Soon this will be done and the real story can begin. I'm actually slowly starting to write it out so I don't get bored with the Academy.

Now it's time for some review responses!

ReDestrobo: Indeed! This current Arc is meant to mold Cardin and Jaune into more developed and trained characters in a shorter amount of time. For Cardin his character and attitude will improve for the better. It's a common enough story piece to have a bully but it feels more fleshed out if you give that bully some reasons which lead to it. On top of a chance for redemption.

His keen skills behind an automobile seem to be an inheritance from his Father. Though my timeline is meant to bring out aspects of character that would be less focused. Jaune and Cardin in canon are melee builds, but what happens when you have them face up against criminals who'll use anything under the sun?

Cardin, besides being a steady hand behind the wheel, also contains a lot of brute melee strength when given a truncheon. Though I'll save the characters' ranged ability for this chapter.

Now, time for a chapter that'll give Ruby Rose wet dreams.

DISCLAIMER: I do own a limited edition Pumpkin Pete's Cereal Box signed by Pyrrah Nikos, but I do not own the RWBY Franchise, these characters, or any of the references mentioned here.

"Despite all that you've learned in our lessons I'm going to go over this one more time before you all break the damn thing."

Sergeant Moore raised her hand, holding in it a revolver with brown wooden grips, brass trigger guard, an engraved barrel, and black gunmetal finish. The mighty revolver glistened in the dusty amber lighting of the armory.

"The Wellington Model 58 Single Action Service Revolver. Chambered in .44 cartridges loaded into its interchangeable cylinder."

She flipped down the lever in the front. Disengaging the latch keeping the cylinder in place and letting it fall into her hand. Holding it to the cadets she explained.

"Six rounds, with the capability to fire a variety of dust rounds. Those of which used in the service are the standard low yield lightning dust rounds, rubber riot rounds, and all the other kinds cause this is meant to be a quick explanation and unless things get hairy you won't be issued those."

Placing the revolver down on the table she picked up another weapon. A medium length pump action shotgun, wooden grips with knurling, and a similar black gunmetal finish.

"The Pacifica 73 pump action shotgun. Chambered in 20 gauge cartridges with an internal magazine capacity of seven. Your more detrimental option when needed. She fires high yield Lighting Dust rounds meant for full incapacitation of a suspect. The riot squad has its own version made for rubber balls."

Lowering the shotgun and placing it next to the revolver she retrieved the last piece of kit.

"The Truncheon. Made from the finest Vaelian Oak, she's your primary form of enforcement. Most people will stop whatever nonsense you're doing when you bring this out. She'll deliver a clobbering if you need to dish out one, but she'll only do so much. Which is why you have your Wellington."

Placing the Truncheon back down on the table she looked back to her group of Cadets.

"I've wasted enough time here, walk to the Armorer and grab your issued weapons and follow me out to the range."

Location: VPA | Outdoor Shooting Range

"Shooters standby." BEEEP

A volley of gunfire erupted from the booths lining the range. Each Cadet firing off rounds from their training revolvers at the target. Each firing at their own pace and speed. Following the material taught to them during the week and demonstrated by Sergeant Moore. Jaune for his sake seemed to be alright with his firearm.

Never having touched one til this point it didn't feel like the video games that his cousin Dorithy had in Southern Vale. It was hefty for what it was, the strong alloy construction made it more lighter than it seemed but the size and recoil was something to get used to. Taking to mind the video and the stances taken by the officers, he did his best to imitate them. Finding a stronger base and a more manageable recoil.

His grouping was alright though he would need more practice later on. Besides, this wasn't the final test.

In the booths surrounding him, others seemed to have varying capabilities. Cardin was able to hand the recoil but his aim was slightly off, Bernie seemed to have knack for the range but he tended to adopt an alternative stance, Mavis found the single action to be finicky as she had smaller hands and found the hammer difficult to cock. Once all students had expanded their cylinders they were stopped.

BEEEEP "Cease fire on the firing line, reload and place the revolver on the table at your booth."

Each of the Cadets complied. Sliding off their headphones and eye protection before walking back to the main grouping area behind them. Sergeant Moore was handed their targets and handed them to the Cadets.

"Take a good look, Cadets. Some of you have some good targeting, decent grouping, others not so much. The goal at the end of all of this is to improve your shooting so that by the final exam, you'll only miss none of your shots."

Jaune looked at his target. Sticking fingers through the bullet holes. Beside him Cardin was looking at his target. The grouping was slightly off by a good margin. But at best four out of the six shots had landed on the torso of the target.

"How's it looking?"

"Not so bad, I definitely could use some work."

"Same here, it was the first time I ever shot a gun before. It was… Really exciting."

"Sure is, I've only trained with my family's mace at home."

"Maybe the truncheon will be good for both of us? I think a good sparring session is just what we need now."

"Yeah, just don't expect me to hold back Jauney Boy."

"Wouldn't dream of it, Cardi."

The two Cadets laughed it off though quickly shaped up as Sergeant Moore went on with the rest of the training.

OMAKE: Oopsie!

Wood against wood hit as two truncheons hit against each other. The counter was well placed as Cardin backed up as Alice. The two were sparring as others were. Cardin seemed to have the upper hand. His coordination and strength were able to deliver a few heavy strikes. But Alice and her agility were too much for him to track. Leading him to missing more of his strikes. Soon she delivered a hard blow. Completing her necessary amount of hits.

"Well Cardin you did put up a heavy fight, four out of eight is a good amount. There will be more time to practice." She said as she reached out to him on the ground.

Looking up after lying on his back from exhaustion, he snickered and took her hand. Using it to pull himself up though perhaps pulling too much which led her to fall down on top of him. Looking at the situation they were now Alice seemed to stop in her tracks. Perhaps taking in too much before Cardin quickly tried to help her up along with himself.

"Aw jeez I am really sorry about that, Alice."

"Damnit, Cardin! Stupid meathead I was enjoying that!"

"Oh- No w-worries Cardin." Alice said with a flustered face. Placing a hand on her cheek to hide the blush.

For his part Cardin didn't even seem to acknowledge her reaction. Just thankful that she was safe and sound.

"Thank God she's not hurt. I wouldn't want a friend to get hurt."

Somewhere in another universe. A blond haired boy and a red haired girl sneezed.

OMAKE: Tumbleweed

"OoooooOoooooOOoooooo"

"Wahhh wahhh wahhhhh"

"OoooOOooooOOOooOOOOO"

"Wahhh wahh waaaaaaaaah"

"OooOOooOOOOOOOO"

"Wah wah waahh waaaaaahhhhhh"

"OoOOooooOooooOOOOO"

"Wahhhh Wahhhhhhhhhh"

Bernie vocalized the popular western theme and Cardin banged a crate to the beat as "Cat Eyes" Charlie the Kid kept his revolver in a holster. Looking to the target on the other end with a narrowing vision. Squinting him real good as he readier for the draw. James and Jaune tumbled on in front like a couple of tumbleweeds. The rest of the Cadets were either rolling on the floor stifling their laughter or watching with bated breath.

Then at the climax.

BANG.

The target fluttered with a slight wind but the bullet didn't strike it. It had struck a lightbulb illuminating the target area and had caused a spark. Which then caught on the paper target and set it on fire. Holstering his firearm, Charlie gave the best Lieutenant Dievore impression he could.

"I love the smell of paper in the afternoon."

TADAAAAHHH Chapter 6 is done with my first omakes of the series. Guns, guns, guns galore this chapter! The names of the weapons are pretty easy to deduce from their ersatz names. But if you couldn't recognize them, the main service firearm of the V.P.D. is the Remington Model 1858. Meant to serve as a heavy hitting cannon but also a semi-taser with its low yield lighting dust rounds. Then we have the Ithaca 37, a shotgun kept in the rear of the police car and meant to be used when serious firepower is needed. Then we got the Truncheon, staple of British police officers but in us we got Batons.

Anyways if you have any more questions or suggestions, feel free to send them in along with a review! Thank you very much!
