Remus woke up in total darkness.
His head was spinning and it hurt so much that he wanted to throw up.
He heard sounds of footsteps.
Suddenly there was light.
Remus blinked.
He heard a chuckle.
"Looks like you caught a pretty one, Kimberly."
"Ai...Attractive one, ain't he?"
#####
He passed the test.
A stream of werewolves are lined, waiting to be tested if they are 'worthy' enough to enter the camp.
Some scream in the tent. Some beg for mercy. And some...moans and cries. There is no crack of the whip to be heard, only the sounds of the cackling tormentors.
They are what the trainers call 'the pretty ones'.
They are to be toys for them to enjoy.
Toys for them to crush under the feet.
Remus got dragged out of the tent after the ordeal.
Rems screamed as a man carved the number 8504 on his arms.
It bled.
It was going to be his new name.
2 Years Later
Remus Limped across the small hallway of the building. To his right and left were dirty cells, containing more than ten werewolves in the small, confined spaces. He wished that the trainer, Ruttgar was his name, wouldn't notice him as he passed by. But, like always, his luck got the best of him.
"Oi!" Ruttgar cried out, looking behind and grabbing the chain from Remus's collar. Remus jerked to a stop, nearly falling on his back. He turned around to face the blond man. "Sir?"
"What are you doing here? It's laboring hours for your side of the wing."
Remus felt his knees shaking. "Please sir...I needed to use the bathroom."
Ruttgar stared at him suspiciously for a few seconds, then laughed.
"It's against the trainer's curriculum, but I'll let you pass, 8504...this time."
"Thank you Sir." Remus said quietly.
Just as he was about to walk away, Ruttgar said something in his ear.
"But of course, you know that my mercy comes with a price...you very well know what that is."
Remus swallowed and nodded. Barking with laughter, Ruttgar released his hold on the chains. Remus broke away and continued limping toward his destination. Oh yes, he knew what the price was. It sent shivers down his spine. Another reason for himself to escape this hellhole.
He limped past the bathroom.
#####
His breathing was shallow as he reached the trainer's office. Peering through the small glass window on the top of the door, he saw three trainers keeping guard. In his time in the camp, he had made floor plans of the building inside his head. There were only three entrances out of the building. The exits on the East and West wing were always guarded closely. The one he was about to go into, not quite.
Remus took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
A trainer by the name of Emmika, stepped outside. "Yes?" She said irritably.
"Sir, there is a ruse going on at the labor site at the East Wing. Trainer Ruttgar sent me to seek reinforcements."
"Where is your slip?"
With trembling hands, Remus pulled out a small slip of paper out of his pocket. There had been a small rouse at the laboring site before, and Ruttgar had sent him here for the very purpose; but the rouse ended before Remus could even reach the office. Ruttgar had not asked for the slip back.
Emmika stood silent for a while. Finally, she spoke.
"Fine."
She then beckoned to the other trainers to follow her, not forgetting to close the huge and heavy metal door behind her. Just as it was about to swing shut, Remus stuck out his already injured foot in the gap. The door stopped. There was a sickening crunch as several of the bones in his foot broke. Trying not to scream, Remus pushed open the door with all his might and squeezed through. He then limped to a small flap on the wall. This was the third entrance. It was locked.
Remus stood up and searched the room. He had to hurry. Then he found what he was looking for: a jar of paper clips. After twisting the wires this and that, Remus used it to pick the locks. Click. It opened.
Gritting his teeth, Remus crawled through the flap. It was a tight fit; the flap was very small. But he succeeded.
He tumbled out to the ground. He realized that it was snowing.
This was the first time he had seen the light of day for years. Remus broke out of his awe as he heard a shout.
'Dam.'
He picked himself up and ran with all his might on the snow packed ground. It was freezing and his bare feet hurt terribly. He had to reach the storage department. He had seen it the day he arrived. It was a mere, tiny dot in the distance.
There was a thundering of footsteps from behind. He looked back. Three trainers were chasing him, shooting spells at his feet. more were joining in. He saw Ruttgar in the distance.
Remus dashed this way and that. The spells never caught him. Years inside the camp, from the constant abuse, had taught him to be quick.
The dot in the distance grew bigger to the shape of the building. He was just about to reach it-
"Stupefy!"
The spell barely hit him; it just scraped his legs. In normal circumstances, it wouldn't have even bothered him. But it was too much for his broken and malnourished body. Remus fell.
He heard shouts of joy from the trainers. Remus didn't get up from the ground. Instead, he concentrated all his might on the warm, mild, energy inside him.
"Quick! Before he can get up!"
The energy bubbled.
Just as about Ruttgar was about to reach him, Remus lashed out. All his turmoil mixed with the magic inside of him, burst out of his fingertips in purple flames. It circled him and the entrance of the building.
Ruttgar halted to a stop, and so did the others. Remus stabled himself and using the device he fashioned out of clips earlier, started to pick the locks. It opened.
He dashed inside without looking back.
He raced up the flight of stairs, taking in the map of the department hanging on the wall. The wand storage room was on the second floor. Luckily, he saw a young witch carrying a handful of wands to the room.
To her surprise, Remus gasped one of the wands out of her hands, disarmed her, and knocked her out.
"Stupefy!"
Remus turned around. Some of the trainers had managed to gain access to the building.
Emmika raced forward. "Reducto-!"
Before the spell could hit him, Remus aimed her wand at the ceiling. It cracked. The rubbles fell on the remaining trainers.
"Stupefy!" He shouted. Emmika fell unconscious to the floor.
But Remus failed to notice a figure standing behind him.
"Expelliarmus!"
He was knocked behind, the wand flying out of his grip as he hit the ground.
It was Ruttgar.
Remus started to crawl for his wand-
"Crucio!" He screamed and twitched and jerked. Ruttgar put his foot down on his back, pinning him to the ground. The wand was just out of his reach.
Ruttgar, removing the feet from his back, stamped it on his hands. Crunch.
Remus screamed again. The pain was too much. His eyes rolled back, and he threw up. It hurt all too much.
He could hear the dull sounds of Ruttgar beating him up.
He closed his eyes.
Just as he was about to fall into unconsciousness, Remus thought he saw a familiar face. White, fair skin, straight jet black hair...the face of Sirius Black.
Sirius winked at him.
Suddenly he felt his body surging with power. Throwing Ruttgar off, he grabbed the wand.
Pop.
He disapparated, falling into darkness.
#####
Sirius was lying on the couch watching muggle television shows when he suddenly heard a thump outside.
He tensed. Grabbing his wand, he slowly crept to the front door and listened. Nothing.
He sighed and opened the door. He had a shrewd idea who it was.
"James, if that's you, I'm gonna kill-Fuck!"
Some Remus angst coming on this way...;)
