A/N: The school system is gonna be about 70% based on my country's because I'm too lazy to research on more common systems like Japanese and American... and 10% made up, this is fiction, I make the rules lmao. And same goes for the whole setting and culture.

This fic is unbetaed. Also forgive my English, it's not my native language.

Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters except for obviously the OCs I might include in the future chapters.

The blonde boy came to a halt as he reached the campus. Towering gates at the main entrance with two smaller gates on both sides signed with entrance and exit accessible only to students, professors and anyone with school ID.

Clutching his chest, his other hand on his bent knees for support, he tried to catch his breath. After a few seconds, his breathing has evened and he looked at his wrist watch. Half past seven. Oh thank God. He can't help but sigh. To his relief, he is still thirty minutes earlier before the campus orientation. Of course Naruto didn't want to be late on his first day of college freshman year. He might have been a bad student in his high school years but he can't slack anymore if he wanted to have a better future and pay sir Iruka back for the financial support just so he could get a degree.

There's an outdoor stands of food and different kinds of store lined up in one long row just outside the main campus. It's almost like a bazaar. Tables and small mushroom shaped stools made of cement were randomly installed in the front of the mini stores. The whole area was generously shaded by trees. Naruto sauntered in to the busy place. Looking at the prices of even a simple sandwich, he surmised that they're not for him so he just passed on a breakfast. He has survived on only a coffee in the morning many a times in his seventeen years of life anyway.

Adjusting the small backpack strapped on one shoulder, he decided he might as well just use the remaining time on looking for the orientation hall inside the school.

Naruto was almost near the zone unshaded by the trees when something, no someone caught his attention. A small girl waiting for her change in front of the last stall. She was wearing a simple green t-shirt and a white sneakers, her flared skirt flowing just past her knees. Naruto can't get his eyes off her. She's the prettiest girl I've ever seen. That was the only thing in his head as he shamelessly stare at her smiling face thanking the lady that gave her a plate of dango sticks. But the most distinctive thing about her is her short pink hair. He didn't believe in love at first sight until now.

Naruto continued looking at her like an idiot as she devoured her dango while still standing not caring that her backpack seemed like it's weighing her down. Her actions were very unladylike but he thought it was still cute. Luckily she wasn't looking his way, he can stare at her as long as he liked but then she checked her watch and the blonde boy was reminded that he had an orientation to catch. The girl finished her sweets and hurriedly throw her trash in a bin. Naruto hoped she's going to the hall as well for that meant they're in the same year.

The orientation lasted an hour. Everyone obviously looked bored - blatantly making sure they get their feeling across the professors talking on the stage - and wanted nothing more than to look for their first class to start their college life.

For Naruto, the whole first three classes were as monotonous. Professor Hatake, a gray haired man and his calculus teacher, spent the whole hour making them write the syllabus on their notebooks while he reads an adult novel in a corner laughing like a maniac. He didn't remove his mask even as he introduced himself and bid them goodbye. The two other professors just explained their rules and regulations that were already explained in the orientation, much to their boredom.

Finally it was time for lunch. Naruto brought his. Sir Iruka told him beforehand that cafeterias in exclusive universities are surely expensive. Even their food makes the boy felt out of place. Hoping that something would turn up later - because nothing is making him excited about the thought of officially needing to study in the following months - he started to stuff a mouthful of rice and fried fish.

The first afternoon subject was biology. Tough luck, Naruto hates science because it involves at lot of memorizing. He thought all an engineer needs is mathematics and he's good enough at solving problems.

He was already situated on one spot of the long conjoined desks on the highest level of the bleacher when his eyes went wide as it hit the approaching student at the classroom door. The girl from the outdoor cafeteria. Naruto watched her as she chose the seat nearest the professor's table and put her small but heavy apple green backpack on her side. He can't help but smile so big it showed all his perfect teeth. Taking his bag with him, he sauntered to the center where the long tables took a gap, down to the lowest level and took a sit next to her.

Students were starting to fill in the rather huge classroom while Naruto continuously watched her from the corner of his eyes. She's prettier up close. He mused like a schoolgirl.

"It's rude to stare you know." Naruto was startled by the voice. He was so mesmerized by the girl, he didn't notice that he has completely turned his whole torso to her direction, his bent left leg was already riding the chair.

She eyed him. "You've been staring at me for a good three minutes," she pointed, a pink eyebrow raised as she faced him. "Is there a dirt on my face?"

"Oh!" Smiling shyly, Naruto scratched the back of his neck. "There's none."

The girl just turned to look at the white board in front, not giving any more attention to the giddy boy beside her.

Their professor was Mrs. Sarutobi, a black-haired, red-eyed woman. They begun the class with the norm, a roll call of the students who will be in that same class for the whole semester. The thought made Naruto excited, finally something to look forward to in a rather vexing course.

"Haruno Sakura."

The girl beside him raised her hand.

Yes! Got her name. The blonde boy took note of her name in his brain like it's the most important lesson that day.

"Uzumaki Naruto," called Mrs. Sarutobi. "Here ma'am," said man answered quite loudly with his hand raised excitedly. He wanted to make sure Sakura will know his name.

But to his chagrin, she just rolled her eyes in annoyance. Great! I'm gonna have to spend the whole hour with a dimwit beside me. And he obviously likes me. The last thing Sakura wants is another fanboy. She's had tons of that in high school. Don't get her wrong, she doesn't think highly of herself but she's not oblivious to a man's admiration. She might have been a hopeless romantic at a very young age but that's exactly the reason she's more focused on her dreams of becoming a doctor now, she has already exhausted the romantic side of her.

"Today's lighthearted but next week class starts," Mrs. Sarutobi's voice was gentle but it sounded so threatening. "I'd appreciate if you read your syllabus and have an advance studying."

Sakura didn't move to leave. "Aren't you going to your next class?" Naruto asked curiously.

"Nope. My next class is gonna be here too," she answered a little unkindly.

But that didn't deter the boy. Nothing has stopped the boy from being the life of the party.

"Really! I have chemistry with Mr. Sarutobi too," he exclaimed. "I think he and our biology teacher are husband and wife," he continued, acting like they're already friends. "I hate science but I guess I have to take them to get my degree. I'm taking up engineering, how about you?"

She just looked at him, her face devoid of emotions but inside she was actually gauging him. Naruto's face reddened when he noticed she was under the scrutiny of her beautiful sea foam green eyes.

Well he seems harmless, warm even. Sakura assessed. She's always been good at this, discerning people by instinct. And it's not like they're actually gonna be friends, right? It won't hurt to talk to him.

"Taking up pre-med. Mathematics and science are both parts of the College of Engineering curriculum," Sakura answered looking at her notebook albeit sounding a little softer.

"Uhh," sounding a little embarrassed, Naruto asked anyway. "What is pre-med?"

Two eyes rolled, a sigh came out of the pink-haired girl. "Pre means before, med stands for medicine. To make it easier to understand, I'm going to be a doctor."

The boy beamed. "Oh wow!! That's awesome Sakura. You must be smart."

"The road to being a doctor is so much more than just being smart."

Naruto smiled at her, a really big smile. She thought he's silly and nosy. He kept smiling at her the whole time Mr. Sarutobi was discussing the scope of their first semester in chemistry.

An hour passed. To Sakura's relief, Naruto hurriedly stood up to leave and didn't bug her more. His little crush could wait, his job cannot. He has the whole semester to befriend the cute pixie after all.
