Consequences

"I want a divorce."

Sasuke bobbled his fork before it reached his mouth. Placing the forkful of food back on his plate, he looked at his wife of 20 years. "What did you say?"

Dr. Sakura Haruno, never Sakura Uchiha and most certainly never Mrs. Sasuke Uchiha, daintily patted her lips with her napkin. "I want a divorce."

Sasuke glanced at their 16-year-old daughter who was staring at her mother in horror then looked back at his wife. "May I ask why?"

Sakura sniffed at her spouse's cool tone "I'm not happy."

"That's it. You're not happy."

"Yes."

"And you want a divorce. Without trying to resolve anything?"

"Exactly."

Sasuke clenched his fist briefly out of Sakura's sight. "When will you be moving out?" He was pleased with the fact that he was able to keep an even tone even though he wanted to strangle Sakura for doing this. In front of their daughter. Blindsiding him.

A delicate pink eyebrow rose. "Moving out?"

Sasuke picked up his forkful of food, placed it in his mouth, chewed and swallowed before answering. "Yes. When will you be moving out?"

"I thought that you'd…"

"You thought wrong." Sasuke was blunt. "This house is owned by the Uchiha Trust. Your name is not on the deed."

Sakura's calm facial mask cracked, briefly. "Very well." She turned to their still clearly stunned daughter. "Go upstairs and pack Sarada. I'll find hotel for us for the night."

"No." Sarada's reply was strangled with rage and tears.

"Sarada…"

"I will not be leaving with you, Mother." Sarada spat. "I'm staying with Dad. My God! How can you sit there and just up and say you want a divorce?! That you're not happy. Thousands, millions of people aren't happy, and they don't do stuff like this! And you're doing it a week after Dad gets out of the hospital from having his arm removed? An arm you cut off."

"I'm well aware that I was your father's surgeon. That has nothing to do with this."

"Then why?" was the wail of a confused child.

"That is none of your business." Said Sakura. She stood up from the table. "I'll call a hotel for the night. Since Sarada isn't leaving with me, I'll call her and let her know my whereabouts." Sakura turned and walked out of the dining room.

"Daddy?"

Sasuke pushed back his chair and held out his hand to his daughter. "Come here, baby."

Sarada flew into his lap and was cuddled by her father.

After several minutes, Sasuke kissed his daughter's forehead. "Better?"

Sarada sniffled. "Yes."

Sasuke smiled. "Go upstairs and brush your teeth. Do you have any homework?"

"No, but…" She looked at her father with a mute appeal.

"Give me about 30 minutes. I need to call Itachi and let him know. Then you can call and tell Boruto."

"Okay." Sarada stood up and kissed Sasuke on the cheek. "I love you, Daddy."

"I love you too, Sarada."

The next morning, Sakura strode into Konoha General Hospital and rode the elevator to the top floor where her office was. But before she could reach her office, she was stopped by the hospital's Chief of Medicine, Tsunade Senju.

"Sakura, do you know why the Uchiha have pulled all funding from the hospital?"

Sakura closed her eyes and sighed, shaking her head. Looking at her mentor, "I'm so sorry, Tsunade. Sasuke and I are divorcing and he's being rather silly about the whole situation. I'll call Itachi and get the money re-instated."

"Itachi was the one who pulled the funding."

Several hours later after performing her scheduled surgeries, Sakura hung up the phone. She rubbed her face. She had a raging headache, but she refused to lay her head on her desk like she wanted. That would have been undignified. But she had called damn near every law firm in Konoha and almost all of them were on retainer to the Uchiha. She actually had to hire a divorce lawyer from a "firm" called 'Divorces R Us.'

"Dr. Haruno, Dr. Senju wants to see you in the conference room."

Sakura sighed and put her purse back into her desk drawer and followed Tsunade's personal assistant, Shizune. As she walked through the conference room door, she hesitated. Seated at the table were Tsunade and the other chief doctors of the hospital, Orochimaru Yashagoro, Jiraiya Sannin as well as the hospital's lawyers.

There was no chair for her.

"Dr. Haruno, this is to formally let you know that an ethics violation has been filed against you."

"An ethics violation?! What nonsense is this?" Sakura glared at her mentor.

"Dr. Haruno, did you or did you not knowingly operate on your husband?" Dr. Yashagoro's question was asked in a tone of iced silk.

Sakura felt her heart skip. "I had no choice but to operate! There wasn't anyone available! He was critical!"

Dr. Yashagoro's smile was as icy as his voice. "I do believe you are quite wrong about that. There were several other surgeons available at that time. Myself for one."

"I…I…" Sakura could only stutter.

"Dr. Haruno," spoke Tsunade, her normal friendly demeanor was distant. "On the advice for the hospital's attorneys, you are hereby suspended until the investigation is complete."

Sakura's throat tightened to the point she couldn't speak so she nodded.

Dr. Sannin finally spoke. "Get a lawyer, Haruno."

Itachi hung up the phone. "Phase two complete."

His cousin, Shisui shook his head and laughed "You are one evil bastard."

"Sakura should have remembered the Family Motto."

Shisui snorted. "Which one is that? We have several to suit whatever situation."

Itachi smiled gently. "The main one: Fuck with us and find out."
