Sydney to the Multiverse Episode 2 - The World Where Olive is Pregnant
Written by: Katy Kear and Fun But Shy Girl
Based on the Story "Almost Heinous" by Katy Kear
Sydney suddenly found herself in her school hallway. Sydney looked around at her surroundings and her attire as she began to think out loud to herself.
"Well everything looks more normal again. And hey, I'm in clothes I would've definitely chosen for myself. Could I be back in my universe... or is this another new universe that needs me to help it in some way?"
Suddenly Sydney's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of crying. Sydney, following the sounds found herself entering the girls bathroom. Sydney then walked over and saw sitting in a stall on the floor was her best friend Olive crying, with her arms wrapped around her knees. Sydney then got on the floor, with a look of confusion and concern on her face.
"Hey Olive. What's wrong?"
Olive began to dry her very wet face as she tried to avoid direct eye contact with her friend.
"Everything's wrong Sydney. Everything!"
"Come on Olive. Whatever it is, it can't be that..."
"I'M PREGNANT SYDNEY!" - Olive yelled.
Olive then buried her face into her knees as she began to sob, as Sydney remained frozen with shock on her face.
"Olive…I…" Sydney started, as she starred at her sobbing best friend. "I didn't know you were seeing someone."
Olive's head suddenly snapped in Sydney's direction.
"What?"
"Are you not with the guy anymore?"
"Why in the hell would I have gotten back with Brandon after he raped me?" Olive questioned, angrily.
"R-raped?" Sydney questioned, her voice trembling.
"Are you seriously going to act like you didn't push me to tell you this all over again!?" Olive asked, upset. Sydney just stared at her, confused as Olive continued to speak.
"He held me down and took my girlhood away from me! Do I have to tell you every detail again for you to remember how traumatic it was for me?!"
"I'm sorry, Olive," Sydney said, sitting next to her. "I... I was just caught off guard."
"I'm sorry for freaking out on you," Olive apologized. "It can't be easy to be friends with someone that let herself get hurt."
Sydney now began to better understand the Olive of this universe's situation, as she attempted to comfort her with her words.
"Hey, it's that Brandon guy that did that to you, you didn't 'let it happen'."
Sydney wrapped her arms around her best friend, who started sobbing.
"I fought so hard, Syd," Olive said in-between sobs. "I just wasn't strong enough." She picked up the pregnancy test again and looked at it. "I don't know what to do."
"I don't what to say," Sydney said. "Have you seen a doctor yet?"
"No, I didn't take the test until today."
"You should set one up," Sydney stated.
"Will you go with me?"
"Sure," she agreed.
Sydney was determined to help her best friend be okay, even if she wasn't her universe's Olive. She simply knew this was a young woman that needed her help.
Later that day, Sydney got home and was relieved to see that her home in this universe was identical to what she was already familiar with in her own. Sydney then walked into her room, when suddenly she saw the jade stone on her necklace glow. Then from the jade stone, a blue light appeared and suddenly created a holographic projection of the strange girl known as Cyber Olive in front of Sydney. Cyber Olive smiled as she looked at Sydney.
"Sydney Prime. So glad I was able to lock onto you. Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay Olive... or Cyber Olive, or whatever I call you. So wait. We're not appearing in that weird void like we did before now? You can communicate with me in the universe I'm in now?"
"Yeah, it's a trick I didn't have down when I first lost contact with my Sydney. Sometimes, I may be able to pull you into the void to talk to give you a break. But I'll also be able to contact you like this from now on. So how are things going so far?"
"Well I quickly figured out what the problem of this universe is. The Olive of this world got pregnant from some guy that raped her."
Cyber Olive looked a bit unsettled by what she heard. She knew Sydney was talking about essentially just another girl with her name; but just imagining that violation happening to herself troubled Cyber Olive. Eventually she spoke up.
"That's... that's terrible."
"So what am I supposed to do in this world? Just tell me what I have to do to help this world's Olive, and then get me back to my home."
"Well... I'm not sure. The forces at work with your journey are... mysterious. I can't ever give you specific directions. But from my equipment I have here, I do know you were sent to this universe to save a life."
Sydney suddenly looked worried.
"Save a life? Save Olive's life? The life of her unborn child?"
"I... I don't know Sydney Prime. But... please do everything you can to help the Olive of this universe. I... I just know if what happened to her happened to me... I would desperately want my best friend to be there by my side helping me."
The holographic image of Cyber Olive then disappeared, as Sydney sat on her bed looking confused and upset.
The next day: Sydney and Olive were walking down a sidewalk together towards Olive's house as they were talked.
So how did your mom react when you told her?"- Sydney asked.
"She just hugged me and said that she'd help me no matter what, and would support any decision I'd make."
"Well... have you decided what you're going to do next?"
Olive had a worried look on her face as she struggled to find an answer to Sydney's question, while the two girls entered Olive's home. However Olive then got distracted from some mail on the table of her kitchen. Quickly, Olive opened an envelope addressed to her, and her eyes greatly widened. A curious Sydney approached Olive wondering what she was looking at.
"What is it Olive?"
"Um... it's... um... a court summons. Brandon's trial is coming up, and... I've been asked to testify, and... explain how... how he raped me."
"Okay. Well this is good. This is gonna make sure that jerk gets thrown into jail for a long time."
Olive suddenly looked at Sydney with anger in her eyes.
"NO! Why does the freaking legal system want me to relive that terrible night AGAIN! Wasn't my report to the police months ago good enough!? Now I'm gonna have to testify before an entire court room as they start to see my baby bump. They're gonna just view me as some stupid slut that didn't know what was best for her!"
Sydney then put her hands on Olive's shoulders as she tried to reassure her friend.
"No. Not standing up for yourself is stupid. The smart and strong stand up for themselves. And that's what you're going to do."
Olive looked down for a minute as tears started to appear in her eyes. Then she looked up at Sydney.
"Okay Syd... okay."
Olive was sitting in the back of a court room as her mother, Sydney, Max, and Judy sat near her. Sitting some distance away from them was the young man that had raped Olive: Brandon. Brandon's lawyer was starting to speak before the court room, as Max whispered to his mother Judy.
"I thought after the prosecutor had Olive speak, the rest of this was just going to be determining this guy's sentencing. But this idiot lawyer actually thinks he can get this jerk off the hook."
"It's just how the legal system works Max. Everyone is entitled to defend themselves."
Meanwhile Brandon's lawyer spoke to the court.
"I'd now like to call the prosecutor's witness to the stand. Miss Olive Rozalski."
Olive then nervously took the stand and quickly swore on the Holy Bible to tell the truth. She looked at Brandon for a split second, and then at those that came to court with her. Then Olive nervously looked at everyone else in the court room. Olive felt her body start to sweat under her clothes as Brandon's lawyer spoke directly to her.
"Miss Rozalski. Do you admit that my client: Brandon Alverson asked you to go on a date with him during the night in question, and you consented to go out with him?"
"Yes. He had asked me out after he helped me with adjusting to my new math class."
"So we all agree on that. And can you tell me how you were dressed that evening Miss Rozalski?"
Olive suddenly looked very caught off guard.
"What does that have to do with anything!?"
"Were you dressed provocatively? Were you trying to come across as sexually appealing to Mister Alverson?"
"I... I was just dressed for a date."
"And your charges against my client occurred when? Weeks after your date? Was this before or after you learned you were pregnant?"
Olive began to look distraught as a few tears appeared in her eyes. Brandon's lawyer though began to speak before the court room.
"I know everyone here was once a teenager that did things they regret. My client has expressed regret as well; but only for performing an action he knew was consensual. Of course unlike my client, it's not uncommon for many people like Miss Rozalski here to essentially retcon their choices, and pretend they made no wrong decision. However it's wrong for my client to be persecuted for Miss Rozalski's desire to cover up her own poor choices."
Suddenly Olive stood up and erupted like a volcano as she screamed.
"I told him to stop what he was doing over and over, but he pinned me down, ripped off my clothes off, and used me! HE RUINED MY ENTIRE LIFE JUST TO GIVE HIMSELF A FEW MINUTES OF PLEASURE!"
The judge then banged their gavel as they spoke up.
"ORDER! That's enough from both the defendant's attorney and the witness. You may both be seated."
Olive then walked immediately out of the court room as Sydney quickly followed her. Outside of the court room, Olive just fell to her knees and began to sob. Sydney then just sat by Olive and hugged her as Olive continued to cry.
Over an hour later, Olive and Sydney were still sitting outside of the court room. Then Brandon and his lawyer stepped outside of the court room. Brandon glanced at Olive with a blank stare, as Olive looked at Brandon with anger and sadness in her eyes. Then Brandon turned his head away and walked on. Sydney meanwhile looked at Brandon with disgust.
"Can you believe that guy? He didn't even show any interest in the fact that you're carrying his child. That fact was only just ammo for his lawyer to try to hurt you."
Olive felt her stomach briefly as she spoke softly.
"I don't want someone that cruel around this kid anyway. He doesn't need him."
Sydney then looked at Olive with curiosity as she looked at her friend in the eye.
"But what about you? Do you think that kid needs you, or that you might want to have them?
Olive looked at Sydney with great uncertainty.
"Well... um..."
Suddenly the two were interrupted by Max, Judy, and Olive's mom stepping out of the court room. Sydney and Olive then stood up, as a curious Sydney looked at her dad.
"So dad, how long is Brandon gonna be in jail?
"Well Syd... he's not going to jail."
Olive suddenly looked panicked as she began to speak.
"You mean he was not found not guilty!?"
Everyone then sat down in some chairs together, as Max continued to speak.
"No. He was found guilty, but he was sentenced instead to eighteen years of probation."
Sydney looked disappointed though as she looked at her dad.
"But that's not fair. He deserves to be in jail forever for what he did to Olive."
"I agree with you Syd. But he's not exactly gonna be walking free. For what he did to Olive, Brandon is gonna have to register as a sex offender. He's gonna have to stay several miles away from Olive at all times, and be under careful watch by the authorities. He's going to have many places he's not gonna be allowed to go to, and there are many jobs he's probably not going to get now. He'll also probably not be able to go to any of the colleges of his choosing either. It may not seem fair, but Brandon is going to have to live a hard life for the next eighteen years."
Olive then rubbed her stomach as she spoke softly to herself.
"Yeah... the next eighteen years are gonna be hard..."
Two days later: Sydney and Olive walked into a hospital together.
"Are you nervous?" Sydney questioned Olive.
"Terrified," she answered.
"I've got you," Sydney reassured her, holding out her hand. Olive took it in hers.
"Thanks, Syd," she said with gratitude.
After she got checked in, a nurse came out and got them.
"Do you know what you're going to do?" The ultrasound technician asked Olive, as she grabbed the gel. "It's going to feel cold," she added.
"No," Olive answered, them shuttered when she felt the coldness of the gel.
"Well, there's a few options," she stated. "There's abortion or adoption."
"Or she could keep the baby," Sydney added when the woman didn't mention it.
"Yes, but a 14-year-old most-likely won't be able to handle—"
"Just do your job and don't be critical towards an entire age group of the female human species," Sydney ordered her. "You don't know who is capable of anything."
The woman didn't say a word and put the wand to Olive's abdomen and started moving it around. Both of the girls watched the screen. When the small life appeared on the screen, Olive's eyes lit up.
"And there is your baby," the tech told her. "And from the conception date you gave me, the current development of what we're seeing is correlating with that timeline."
Then, a muffled thumping sound became audible.
"What's that?" Olive questioned.
"That's the heartbeat," the tech informed her.
"Why is it so fast?" Olive questioned, concerned. "Is there something wrong?"
"No, that's actually a sign that it's is healthy. It's normal to have a 120 to 160 heart rate this far along," she stated, easing Olive's concern. "Would you like a DVD of the ultrasound?"
"Umm... sure," Olive stated.
Some time later, Sydney and Olive walked out of the hospital holding hands. As they walked out, Olive was staring at the DVD.
"What are you thinking about?"
"The heartbeat," she said. She looked over at Sydney. "After hearing that…I don't want to ever let it go. I want to hear it for the rest of my life."
"Are you saying that you're going to keep the baby?" Sydney questioned.
"Yeah," Olive replied. "Thanks for coming with me, Syd."
Olive then hugged Sydney, as a happy Sydney hugged her friend back.
"No problem Olive."
As Sydney hugged Olive, she closed her eyes. However then suddenly Sydney saw nothing but blue light...
Sydney opened her eyes, and saw she was standing in a familiar bright blue void. A large screen appeared before her, and Cyber Olive spoke.
"Good work Sydney Prime. According to the data my scanners have retrieved, the Olive of that universe you visited is on the right track now."
Sydney stood confused as she looked at Cyber Olive.
"The right track? But Cyber Olive, all I did for that other Olive was talk with her and be near her. I didn't help give the guy that violated that other Olive the punishment he really deserved. Uggh. I wish there was a whole lot more I could've done there."
"But you did help give that other Olive the comfort she needed from a friend; you were her sounding board, her support, the person to give her a hug when she needed one, and the person that let her know she had someone who believed in her ability to be strong and do the right thing."
"But... what about that other Olive and her baby. How is she gonna afford to raise that child? What about her going to college? What about the rude things people will inevitably say to her?"
"She still has difficulty ahead her Sydney Prime. But she'll have your doppelganger to support her. That Sydney immediately took your place as soon as you left, and carries all of the necessary memories of what you did while in her place. But don't worry. All of the small things you did, set that other Olive on the right course."
"Yeah, but... it's just... Cyber Olive, I wish I could've done more."
"Sydney Prime, in your journey across the multiverse: it's not the huge or fantastical things that you're on a mission to do. It's the simple and little things you need to do. Just simple and little things that will have a bigger impact than you can imagine..."
Suddenly without warning: Sydney found herself engulfed in a blue light, and she disappeared...
Sydney suddenly found herself in her living room wearing her favorite pajamas. As Sydney felt a bit dazed and confused, she spoke to herself.
"Okay. So... I guess I'm in yet another new universe again."
From a nearby door, Sydney saw her dad Max emerge as he spoke to her.
"Hey kiddo. Looking for some more snacks for your sleepover?"
"Yes. My sleepover with... Olive?"
"Olive? Sydney, Olive is gone."
"GONE!? Oh no. What happened to her in this universe!? Is she hurt or..."
"Whoa. Syd, don't you remember? Olive is visiting her grandparents for the week. Now why don't you head back upstairs and make sure Sophia and Emmy are doing okay."
"Oh Right. Sophia and Emmy are here."
Sydney then walked away from Max and up to her room as she spoke softly to herself.
"Okay. So far, this universe is the first one to feel exactly like mine. Nothing different here so far."
Then Sydney opened the door to her room, only to have her eyes widen at the sight of her two friends Sophia and Emmy kissing.
With a look of complete surprise, Sydney said, "What!?"
