Sydney suddenly found herself appearing back in her living room again. Sydney sighed in relief as she said, "Okay. I must be in another new universe again." Then Max walked into the room from the kitchen and said, "Hey Syd. Olive was looking for you?" A concerned Sydney then said, "What!? Why!?" Max then said, "Just wanted to see if you and Ned wanted to go on a double date with her and her new boyfriend." Sydney sighed in relief again as she said, "Oh. Right. I'm dating Ned, and Olive is dating another boy. Phew. Well... I'll text her and..." Suddenly there was a knock at the door. Max then walked over to the door as he said, "I got it." Sydney curiously watched as Max opened the door and saw a young woman in her 20's standing at the door. A confused looking Max then said, "Hi. Yes. Can I help you?" The young woman then said, "Yes. You're Max Reynolds, correct? You went to Clara Barton Middle School in 1992, is that right?" A still confused Max then said, "Yes. But why are you asking me about..." The young woman then said, "You knew Erika McVaugh right? Well... my name is Julia, and... um... I'm her daughter, and... I... I believe... you're my father." Suddenly Max had a shocked look on his face as he looked at Julia. Sydney then approached Max and said, "What's going on here dad? Is this some kind of prank? That can't be true." Max then looked at Sydney with guilt in his eyes as he said, "Sydney... there's a good chance... she's telling the truth." Sydney suddenly looked very shocked as she said, "What!?"
In 1992: both Max and Leo were looking at several young teenage girls diving into the pool water as Max said, "Oh my gosh. Those girls are so hot. Especially the one in the blue bikini." Leo then said, "I know. They're hotter than those girls I see on those late night HBO shows. And trust me. Those are fine women." Suddenly a young teen girl in a blue bikini looked at Max and Leo, and then got out of the water and walked over to them. With only a fence separating them, the girl looked right at Max and Leo as she said, "Are you two filming me?" Max then said, "Uh, no. We're just filming my skating exploits. You see my name is Max Reynolds and I'm a pro skater." Max then raised one eyebrow, smiled, and in a charming voice said, "They even say I'm going to be the next Tony Hawk." The girl then said, "Really? I've loved to see your moves. My name is Erika. We go the same school right?" Max then said, "I think so. So... wanna see some cool moves?" Erika then said, "Sure. But how about we check them out at my place?"
A few minutes later Max and Julia were sitting in the living room together with nervous looks on their faces. Max while only barely making eye contact with Julia, then said, "So... Julia... what do you do for a living?" Julia who also was avoiding making direct eye contact then said, "I work in the clothing industry. I help design outfits for pro athletes." Then Max said, "Oh, well I kind of work in the field of athletics as well. I own a bike shop in town." Julia then said, "Um, yeah. That's how I found you." Max then heard a dinging sound from the kitchen as he said, "Well our coffee sounds like it's ready. You want me to bring some sugar out?" Julia made a little smile as she said, "Yeah, that be great." Max then headed into the kitchen where a frustrated and upset looking Sydney was sitting. Sydney then looked at Max as she said, "Dad, why are you humoring her? This has gotta be some kind of trick." Max then sat down with Sydney as he said, "Sydney, it's not impossible. Remember when I told you how your mom wasn't the first woman I had sex with and how much I regretted it?" Sydney looked confused as she said, "No... oh wait. Um... yeah... in this reality you must've, so... yeah."
Max looking slightly confused himself said, "Yeah, well in the world of reality, girls can get pregnant from sex regardless of whether or not it's convenient. It's why I never wanted you to just throw yourself at some random guy. So you'd never have to put a young life through what that young woman out there has had to live." A more upset looking Sydney then said, "But why didn't you check to see if this girl you had a stupid fling with was pregnant? Didn't you care that you might have a kid out there?" Max looking a bit guilty said, "Sydney, you don't understand..." Then Sydney interrupted Max and angerly said, "No, I do understand! You made a mistake, but the bigger mistake was not trying to live up to consequences of that mistake, and assumed some gigantic explosion of freaking drama was never gonna explode on our door step and ruin our lives!" Then Sydney got up and stormed out the back door, as a sad looking Max remained still for a moment, and then grabbed some coffee and went back to where Julia was.
In 1992: Max knocked on the door to Erika's house and stood still and nervous for a moment. Erika then opened the door wearing a bath robe as she said, "Hey Max. Come on in!" Max then stepped into Erika's house and looked around as he said, "Whoa. Your place is big looking." Erika then grabbed Max's hand and said, "I know. But come on. Lets go to my bedroom." Erika then led Max into a bedroom complete with a large bed with a hug fluffy pink blanket on it." Erika then walked over to the bed and looked straight at Max as she said, "You like the bed?" Max smiled as he said, "Yeah. Looks nice." Then Erika untied her bath robe and had it fall to the ground showing Max she had no clothing under it. Erika was now completely naked in front of Max as she smiled and said, "So... do I look nice?" Max stood still in shock for a moment as he said, "I... I..." Then a grinning Erika said, "Come on. I know you've been checking out my body for the last two weeks. Well no more wasting time. I'm all yours." Then as Erika laid on her bed with her legs stretched out, Max made a goofy smile as he quickly pulled his clothes off.
Sydney was walking through the woods alone, when she saw the jade stone on her necklace glowing. Sydney touched the jade stone, and then a holographic image of Cyber Olive appeared before her. Cyber Olive then looked at Sydney as she said, "Sydney Prime. Glad to see you're okay." An upset looking Sydney then said, "Actually, I'm not okay! I entered a freaking world where my dad slept with some random woman before my mom and had a kid before me, and just let her live without him all this time." Cyber Olive then said, "Now calm down Sydney Prime." Sydney sighed and said, "Yeah, yeah. I know. The Max Reynolds of this universe isn't my dad. This Max is probably a bad guy who is nothing like my own father." Cyber Olive then said, "Well actually... of all the alternate worlds you've visited, this one is the closest to yours. You see I told you that starting in 2019, tangent timelines slowly emerged and began to spring off like branches from your reality creating all the alternate worlds you've visited. Well... this reality you're in now... it's the first tangent timeline; the first alternate universe and timeline that broke off from your own. I don't know for sure if the father from your reality had sex with a woman that wasn't your mother. But I do know for certain that just about everything else Max Reynolds did in this reality was the same as yours. The man you're mad at... he's pretty much a complete duplicate of your dad. And if you love your own father and know he always means well... then maybe you should assume the Max of this universe means well also. He needs his daughter to be more understanding to him right now Sydney Prime... along with your older sister in this world as well. Helping them may be your mission in this universe." Sydney looked down, sighed, and then said "Okay... I'll try..."
In 1992: Max and Erika were both laying naked in bed with a blanket covering them. As Max looked up the ceiling with a dazed and confused look on his face he said, "That was it? I mean... it was so fast. On those HBO late night specials they always made it seem like it would feel... more special." Erika then with a casual voice said, "Well... it was kind of fun. At least now I get to tell all my friends that I lost my virginity before them. They are gonna be so jealous of me." An annoyed looking Max said, "Wait, what? This was all about beating your friends to some kind of goal? Is that all this was to you?" Erika then said, "Well... I mean you are kind of cute." Max then stepped out of the bed as he said, "I'm out of here." Then Erika sat up and said, "Well, hey. My family is moving in about two weeks to the east coast. You want me to send you my new number and address when we get out there?" Max then coldly looked at Erika while putting his clothes on as he said, "Why? So you can use me again!?" Then Max quickly left Erika's house with a bitter look on his face. However once Max was several blocks away from Erika's house... he stopped for a moment as tears began to appear in his eyes.
Sydney was walking through town when she suddenly bumped into an adult, and then said, "Sorry." Sydney then looked up and saw she had bumped into Julia. The two suddenly looked a bit nervous, as Julia said, "Oh. You're... Sydney, right?" Sydney looking cautious nodded her head and said, "Yeah." Then Julia said, "Well, hey. I was about to get some ice cream at a place I noticed when I came into town. You want to get some with me?" Sydney slowly nodded her head and said, "Sure." Sydney and Julia then went to an ice cream stand, got some ice cream, and then sat together. As the two slowly began to eat, Julia said, "So, um... I always wished I had a little sister." Sydney keeping a cautious face, just ate some of her ice cream as she said, "Uh huh." Julia sighed and said, "Sydney... I'm not trying to come between you and your dad. I'm not trying to get any money from your father, or get into his will or anything." A skeptical looking Sydney looked away slightly as she said, "If you say so."
Julia then looked down slightly as she said, "Your dad told me that your mom died several years ago. I, um... lost my mom recently too... and my step-dad and grandparents awhile back as well. That's why I tried looking up your dad. I just... didn't want to feel like I was alone anymore." Then Sydney looked right at Julia as she said, "Did you know? Did your mother ever tell you who your... father was?" Julia sighed and said, "She never gave me a name. It was only given to me by her lawyer after she died. All my mom said was that she didn't want my biological father to have to live with the consequences of a mistake she forced him to make. I couldn't tell if my mom actually felt guilty for what (as she viewed it) seducing your father, or if she was trying to keep me away from someone bad. But... now that I've met him... your dad seems like a pretty nice guy. Is he a nice father to you?" Sydney sighed as she said, "I... I'm starting to question that."
In 1992: Max was sitting in a Health class at school, as a female teacher stood before the class while saying, "So remember, while condoms do increase the chances of avoiding pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, they're not full-proof. Be aware, any time you engage in sex: you're playing a game; a game that no matter who careful you play: you can lose. So be wise and wait to engage it until you're ready to deal with all potential consequences." Then one guy raised his hand and said, "Yeah, but what about the first time? I mean nobody can get pregnant or get any STD's if both people are virgins the first time they have sex, right?" The female teacher then said, "Well some sexually transmitted diseases can pass from parent to child, so there is still a small chance anyone can pass on a disease their first time. However any girl who has passed puberty, is as likely to get pregnant the first time they have sex as an experienced woman." Upon hearing those last words, Max's eyes suddenly widened as he had a nervous look on his face.
Sydney stepped into the kitchen of her home where she saw Max preparing some food. A cautious Sydney stepped towards Max as she said, "Hey dad." Max looking a bit cautious himself said, "Hey Syd. Um... if it's okay I invited Julia to come have dinner with us." Sydney then said, "Yeah, I know. I was just talking to her for awhile at the ice cream shop. She, um... seems nice." Then Max made a small smile as he said, "Glad you feel that way." Sydney with sadness in her eyes said, "She... Julia told me that her mom... felt bad about what she did to you, and didn't want you to live with the consequences of a mistake she encouraged you to make. But... why didn't you try to find her dad? Why didn't you try to find Julia's mom?" Max sighed and then said, "It was the early 90's Syd. We didn't have e-mail or social media; and land line phone numbers couldn't come with you if you moved house. Unless someone gave you their new address to where they were moving, if that person moved away... they completely disappeared from your life." Then tears appeared in Sydney's eyes as she said, "But you could've tried dad! There were still phone books. A friend of the family might've known where they moved. You... you let a little girl grow up without her father. You should've tried harder!" Then Sydney began to cry as she stormed out of the kitchen.
In 2007: a young adult Max was sitting in front of a computer while talking on his cell phone as he said, "Hello? Yes, is this Erika McVaugh. Hi I'm Max Reynolds. I'm just wondering if you went to Clara Barton Middle School in Portland, Oregon back in... Oh... you grew up in Maine... back in the 1960's... sorry, for bothering you." Max then ended his call, as Alisha walked into the room and said, "Any luck finding her on Facebook?" Max turned his head and said, "No." Alisha sighed and said, "Yeah. I didn't have any luck on MySpace either." Max sighed and said, "She could've changed her last name in the last fifteen years. It was a long shot anyway." Alisha then sat next to Max and said, "Max... you do realize there's a good chance Erika didn't get pregnant when you two..." Max looking upset said, "I can't assume that. Alisha, if I have a kid out that I don't know..." Alisha then grabbed Max's hands and said, "Max, you can't keep letting one mistake you made when you were in middle school keep haunting you like this. However... it's the fact that you want to go so far at trying to help any potential child you have that tells me you're going to be an amazing father." As Alisha rubbed her stomach, Max made a little smile and said, "Alisha... I promise I will do everything in my power to be there for our future son or daughter as they grow up. For the rest of my life, I will work as hard as possible to be the best father I can be."
Sydney sat in her room looking upset, as Max walked in through the open door while knocking on it. Max made a little smile as he said, "Can I come in?" Sydney rolled her eyes and said, "I have a choice?" Max stepped towards Sydney's bed, and then threw several papers on the bed next to Sydney. As Sydney looked at the papers she said, "What are these?" Max then sat down next to Sydney as he said, "Reports from every single detective agency I went to in my attempts to find Julia's mother." As Sydney looked at the papers she said, "Wait. Some of these are from after you married mom. Both of your names are on this one receipt here." Max nodded his head as he said, "Yeah. Your mom knew about what I did with Erika. Sydney... I tried so hard for years to make things right. The mistake I made in just one moment when I was young haunted me for the rest of my life. There were many nights I couldn't sleep, due to me imagining the idea that I had a child out there who doesn't have a father. I mean I grew up most of my life without a dad. I knew how that felt. However all that regret is what inspired me to double down on being the best father I could be for you." Then as Sydney looked at Max she said, "So... it must've been really painful to discover the very thing you feared actually came true." Max nodded his head and said, "It felt like being stabbed in the heart Syd. I mean it wasn't right that Julia's mom didn't tell me about her, but... Julia is here now Syd. She may be all grown up and doesn't need me to raise her... but she's still family. We need to be there for her now... just like she wants to be there for us."
Then there was suddenly a knock at the door and Julia stepped in. Julia waved and said, "Hi. Sorry Max. Your mom let me in and said you were up here." Max looked at Julia as he said, "Oh, it's fine. Come in." Julia then noticed Sydney's bass guitar and said, "You play bass? No way. I play guitar as well." Sydney looked at Julia, and sounding more interested now said, "Really?" Julia then said, "Yeah. I actually did an internship for a month working for the band Sixteen Oranges. I got tickets to their upcoming concert in Portland if you wanna come with. Or would that be too awkward?" Sydney then stood up and said, "Actually... that sounds pretty cool. Besides... we should do something fun together as we get to know one another... sis." Julia smiled as she said, "Awesome. Well, um... I'm gonna go downstairs and get to know my new grandmother a little better. See ya down there." Julia then headed out of the room, as Max gave Sydney a side hug and said, "Thanks Syd. I know you're gonna become a great sister to Julia, and a very responsible mother to a lucky kid of your own one day. Now come on. Lets have dinner." Max then headed out of the room, as Sydney started to follow him. However suddenly there was a blue light that surrounded Sydney in the hallway, and then Sydney disappeared into the light.
Sydney appeared in the second floor hallway of her home as she said, "Whoa. That was weird. Okay. So... I must be in another new universe... which looks pretty similar to mine. Nothing out of the ordinary..." Then suddenly Sydney heard the sound of a little baby girl yell, "Mama!" Sydney's eyes then widened as she said, "Huh? Do I have a little sister in this universe?" Then Sydney went into her bedroom to see a crib with a little baby girl sitting in the crib holding her hands out. The little girl then said, "Mama!" A confused Sydney then pointed to herself as she said, "You talking to me kid?" Then Max from nearby walked into the bedroom and said, "Hey Syd, your babysitter cancelled, and I gotta head to the bike shop. Sorry, but you're gonna have to cancel plans to go to your school's homecoming dance and stay home tonight." A confused Sydney then said, "Wait. The babysitter cancelled? Then why am I..." Then Max said, "Hey. As much as I wanna be a cool stay at home grandpa, little Alisha is your daughter, and you have to take to care of her too." Max then walked out of the room, as a very freaked out Sydney then said, "My daughter!?"

*Author's Note - Thank you for sticking with our fun new series. This very special episode is set in the universe of the very first Sydney to the Max fanfiction ever made by writer SomeRandomWriter1, who wrote their story only after the first two episodes of the Sydney to the Max TV series aired! If you look back at their story, it is quite amazing at how they nailed the voices of the characters so quickly, probably because the characters on the show were so well defined as well. Next time though we explore another Sydney to the Max universe based on a story written by... ME! So click "Next" and check it out! ;)
