In a blue flash: Sydney suddenly saw herself walking down the streets of New York City. Sydney saw her father Max walking beside her, as a happy looking Max said, "Wow Syd! I can't believe you winning that song competition got us a trip to New York City!" Sydney feeling a bit out of place said, "Umm... yeah. It's pretty cool." Then Max said, "And to think. You get to make a music video with some of the other best contest winners from across the country. This'll be like your trip to summer camp... only I didn't have to pay for it... and I get to come this time." Then Sydney and Max walked into a nearby building, and then walked into a studio. An older woman approached the two and said, "Sydney Reynolds! So glad to meet you. I'm Miss Sharp. Now are you ready to do some fun collaboration with other teens from across the country?" An excited Sydney then said, "Well... that does sound pretty cool."
Miss Sharp then led Sydney into another room where other teenagers were sitting, while she said, "I've paired you with a girl that actually lives here in New York. She's a gifted dancer, and I thought you could sing a song that she dances to. Here she is." Then Miss Sharp motioned over to a girl that looked just like Olive. As the girl approached Sydney, a confused Sydney then said, "Olive!?" Then the girl with a confused face said, "Huh? My name isn't Olive. Because I know..." Then the girl began to dance with her arms and a big smile on her face as she said, "I'm A-va Mor-gan-sterrrn!" Then Sydney looking a bit caught off guard, softly said to herself: "Right... the multiverse... multiple possibilities... including Olive not being named Olive on this world." Then Sydney approached Ava and said, "Hi... Ava. I'm Sydney... and I don't have a theme song." A smiling Ava then said, "That's okay. I won't hold that against you."
Some time later Sydney was playing her guitar as Ava was doing an interpretive dance to Sydney's music. Once it was over: Sydney said, "Wow Ava. You're a pretty good dancer. How did you get so good?" Ava in a straight forward voice said, "I force my best friend Auggie to watch me dance all of the time after school, and make him give me pointers." Nearby as the two girls talked: they were being watched by Sydney's father Max, and Ava's mother: Judy. Max smiled as he said, "Wow. Our daughters are really getting along well together." Then a smiling Judy said, "I know. The way your daughter Sydney just immediately opened up to my Ava today... you'd think they'd been best friends for years." Then Sydney and Ava approached their parents as Sydney said, "Dad. Ava and me really wanna perfect this song and dance number we're working on. Can I stay over at her place tonight? Please!" Max looked a bit reluctant, but then said, "Well... I have gotten to know Judy today, and I'm pretty confidant you'll be safe with her and Ava... so, okay. But I'll be checking in on you multiple times. Got it?" An excited Sydney nodded her head and said, "Got it."
As Sydney, Ava, and Judy walked into an apartment building together: Judy said, "And this is where we live. Our home isn't that large, but it's been just cozy enough since I first moved here from Portland, Oregon back when Ava was in kindergarten." Then Sydney said, "Oh. You used to live in Portland. That does make sense. But... how do you fit all of Ava's four brothers into such a small home?" Ava looking confused said, "Huh? I don't have any brothers." Sydney looking a bit caught off guard said, "Oh. Right. You're Ava. A girl who does not have any brothers, or lives in Portland, or has ever met me before." Then as the three entered a small apartment: Judy said, "I'll get you an air mattress set up for you to sleep on in Ava's room." Then a smiling Sydney said, "Thanks Mrs. Rozalski." A confused looking Judy then said, "Sydney, that's the second time you've called me that. How did you know my ex-husband's last name?" Then a nervous looking Sydney said, "Uh... lucky guess Debby." A confused looking Judy then said, "It's Judy... my you're a strange one. But no worries. Used to it. My daughter gives me plenty of strange all the time." A grinning Ava then said, "And you know it!"
Then as Sydney and Ava walked into Ava's room: Sydney said, "So... I guess you're being raised by a single parent, like me." Ava sighed as she said, "Yeah. But... my dad was never around much to begin with. I think that's why my mom insisted I take her last name instead of my dad's. Besides. Mom says Morganstern is a more exotic sounding name that grabs people's attention. Image isn't everything... but it sure helps you get through the front door. It's something she says helped her a lot during the two decades she spent climbing up the corporate ladder of her law firm." Then Sydney softly said to herself, "Well that would explain why your mom has much fewer wrinkles on this world... she waited much longer to have any kid." Then as Ava sat on her bed, she said, "But it's okay. My dad may be gone, but my mom has gotten cooler over the years. And I still have my best friend Auggie. Ooo. Lets go over to his place tomorrow morning. He lives right across the hall." A curious Sydney then said, "Okay. That sounds cool."
The next morning: Sydney and Ava were walking down a hallway in the apartment building as Sydney said, "But you didn't call him ahead of time. Isn't it impolite to come over to someone's home without being invited?" A casual Ava then said, "Nah. I barge in all of the time. Especially since I swiped the spare key to the place from Auggie's mom." Then Ava using a key - opened the door to the other apartment and immediately loudly said, "Hey everyone! Look at me! Because I'm A-va Mor-gan-sterrrn! Yeah!" Then suddenly from a nearby hallway: Ava's best friend Auggie appeared and happily yelled, "Ava!" Then as Auggie walked over to Ava, Auggie's mother Topanga came from around the corner, and with an upset tone said, "Oh. Hello Ava. Thanks for showing up unannounced... at 6:30am... on a Saturday." Then a smiling Ava said, "Auggie, This is my new friend Sydney who I'm developing a song and dance routine with for the competition. She is so super cool and talented!" Sydney made a little smile and little wave as she said, "Hi there." Then Ava looked at Sydney as she said, "And Sydney, this is my best friend Auggie." Then Auggie trying to sound chill said, "Well actually; me and Ava are..." Then as Topanga sat down nearby she said, "Kids. Keep voices down. Mama hasn't had her morning coffee yet." Then an excited Ava said, "And that's Auggie's mom. She's pretty cool... for an old lady." Then a bitter sounding Topanga began to brew some coffee as she said, "I'd destroy you right now Ava... except I haven't had my morning coffee yet. Uggh."
Then suddenly from the hallway: Auggie's father Cory emerged with a big smile on his face as he said, "Howdy hoedey everyone! Ah! It's a beautiful morning. The sunshine is all you need to be awake and happy! Right Topanga?" Topanga glared at Cory as she said, "I hate you right now." Then Cory walked over to Auggie as he said, "Hey Auggie. Check it out. Your sister sent us another letter from the university. See. She attached a picture of her and Maya going to Maya's big art show together." A confused Ava glanced at the picture as she said, "Why are their boyfriends never in any pictures with them anymore?" Auggie then said, "Ava, remember. Riley broke up with Lucas back in high school, and Maya and Josh called in quits way back too." Then Ava shrugged as she said, "Eh. If their plot-lines don't intersect with my life anymore, I stop caring." Then a smiling Cory said, "Well I'm just glad the two have been able to support each other like good room-mates should." Then as Cory walked away, Auggie looked at Sydney and Ava as he softly said, "My dad still has no idea that my sister and her best friend are more than just room mates now. Of course it's probably because he never accidentally walked in on the two in the shower together... and saw things that would really mess up his mind for years." Then Ava said, "Well me and Sydney are gonna practice our song and dance in the park together. Wanna come?" A smiling Auggie then said, "Sure."
In the park: Sydney was playing her guitar as Ava was dancing to the music Sydney played, while Auggie sat nearby watching. Once the music was done, a smiling Ava said, "That was awesome Syd! We should so do a music video together one day." Then Sydney said, "Hey. Why don't we try making an amateur one with our phones?" A smiling Ava then said, "That's a great idea. Lets start first by snapping pics for the album and music video's cover art. Auggie. Here's my phone. Start snapping pics." Auggie then took Ava's phone, and began snapping pictures of Sydney and Ava standing next to each other smiling. Then Ava put an arm around Sydney as Auggie took more pictures. Then Ava suddenly kissed Sydney on the cheek. Sydney looked surprised as Ava said, "Come on Syd. Kiss me on the cheek. And then we'll do an almost kiss picture. It'll cause so many of our fans to wonder if we're dating, and it'll produce so much extra buzz for our music." Then a cautious Sydney said, "Well... okay." Then as Sydney and Ava moved in for a pretend kiss, an upset Auggie then said, "That's enough! Ava... what is going on!? Why do you want people to think you're dating her?" A casual sounding Ava said, "Relax Auggie. I'm just messing around like I do. You're my best friend. You should know that." Then an upset Auggie said, "And there you go again. Calling me your best friend. You only call me that now. You have been for months. But you know I'm more than just your friend! But if you don't think that... then maybe we're just less than friends now." Then an angry Auggie put Ava's phone down and then walked away. Then as Sydney watched the whole ordeal, she said, "Hmm. I think I know why I'm on this world now."
Auggie was sitting on a park bench by himself looking upset. Sydney and Ava approached him as Sydney said, "Hey Auggie. Can we talk?" Then an angry looking Auggie glanced at Sydney as he said, "Why? So you can tell me how hot you think Ava is?" Sydney then said, "Auggie, I just met Ava. I don't like her like that. But... why would you think she'd leave someone she's known since kindergarten for someone she's just met." Then Auggie looking upset said, "Because... that's what happens to most couples. My sister and her best friend broke up with their boyfriends. Plus Ava's mom met her dad when they were young, but they eventually broke up too. Most people don't end up together forever with their first love... so... I guess I had been expecting this to happen to me and Ava eventually." Then Ava approached Auggie as she said, "But Auggie... your parents met when they were young and are still together. They've shown it can work. Why can't we do it too?" Then an annoyed sounding Auggie said, "Because my mom and dad don't call each other their friend. So when you call me that... it makes me feel less important to you."
Then Ava said, "Auggie, I never refer to you as just my friend. I refer to you as my best friend. And to me: that's the most special term you can give someone. Your sister may have called Lucas her boyfriend, but they eventually broke up with because they weren't best friends. My mom may have once called my dad her husband, but never her best friend. Auggie... boyfriends and girlfriends break up all of the time. Husband and wives... they all don't last together forever either. But best friends... from my experience... they're the strongest relationship in the world. Auggie, I'll call you my boyfriend or my husband if you want me to. But to me... calling you my best friend is the highest honor I could ever give." Then a stunned Auggie said, "Ava, I... I had no idea..." Then Ava held up her hand and pointed to a ring she had on her finger as she said, "I promised you when we were little... I would be Mrs. Auggie Doggie Matthews forever... and I meant it." Then Auggie smiled as he said, "And I will always be Mr. A-va Mor-gan-sterrrn... yeah." Then Auggie and Ava immediately hugged one another. Then a smiling Sydney turned away as she said, "Looks like my work is done." Then in a blue flash, Sydney suddenly found herself disappearing from the world she was on.
In a blue flash: Sydney appeared in a new world, ad felt herself on a comfy bed. She smiled and tried to go back to sleep. But as she moved she felt an intense pain coming from her left shoulder. As she tried to turn on a light, she realized it was held by something. As she tried to use her other arm she ended up falling from the bed. The pain she felt made her scream and seconds later Judy was in her room helping her up as she said, "Noodle, what happened?" A confused Sydney then said, "I… dunno… I fell… And my whole body hurts… I… I need to go to the bathroom…" Crossing the hall, Sydney closed the door behind her. However upon looking in the mirror Sydney realized she did not look like her normal self. On top of being three years older, Sydney saw her left arm was in a sling, and her face along with her arm had cuts and bruises all over. A shocked Sydney then said, "Wh… what happened to me?"
