Just gonna hop right into this story. Not much to say really.
The next morning Eragon willed himself awake and reached out with his mind for Saphira and found her scouting out the surrounding areas.
Good morning Saphira, Eragon smiled.
Good morning little one. She replied. You slept in.
As Eragon left his cabin he glanced around the boat to find the sun already nearing its peak.
It seems I did. He mused. Did I miss anything?
Nothing of interest. She thrummed. It there isn't really anything to do here but scout out the areas and sleep. If anything you saved yourself some boredom by sleeping in.
Have you been able to find out anything about that light you saw? He questioned.
I was planning on heading towards it to check it out. Would you care to join?
Eragon thought for a moment before deciding that the elves didn't need him for anything. I'd be happy to join you. When do you want to leave?
Now! And with that she plummeted out of the clouds and dove into the water, splashing Eragon with a wave of water.
Although I think it best to get the saddle. That light looked relatively far away, and I wouldn't want you to skin your legs on the trip.
That might be a wis idea. Responded Eragon, remembering the after effects of their first flight together.
Several minutes later Eragon had strapped the saddle onto Saphira and himself onto the saddle.
Flexing her powerful legs Saphira threw herself into the air. Her massive wings snapping out on either side and holding them in the air. Then she beat them up then down then up then down with rhythmic force.
About an hour later they saw a great chasm in the distance.
I think I saw the light come from the other side of the chasm. She stated. Eragon only nodded.
After ten minutes the other side of the chasm revealed itself. It looked like a great peninsula with the chasm surrounding the island. As they neared it several more details revealed themselves.
Close to the center stood a plateau. East of it stood a great rain cloud that looked irregular and non- natural. Far to the North-east stood a great volcano with rivers of magma flowing down the sides and into the surrounding areas. Northwest stood a massive structure of rock and stone, a machine of unparalleled size flew over it shaped like a bird. Purple/pink light shining from a few parts of it. And South-west of the plateau rested a huge desert (not as big as the Hadarac but still large) and a large cloud of sand and dust with the tip of a machine bigger than the bird visible. Though what this one looked like Eragon had no idea.
But standing apart from all the others was a castle in the very center of this land. The castle had four huge pillars erected from the ground and pointing to the castle. The same strange light coming from it as the bird. But the castle was swamped by a black and purple cloud that obscured everything in it save the head of a great beast as big as the machines slowly drifting around the castle and occasionally roaring, though Eragon could not hear it.
What strange land have we stumbled upon? He asked Saphira.
I know not but I feel that that creature in the castle bears this world ill will. If it can be, then it must be destroyed.
Eragon agreed. That great beast did not strike him as one of good.
While they were debating what to do they neared the chasm and the winds started to pick up.
I think we should head back Saphira! He shouted.
I too think that would be wise.
But as Saphira began to head back she was buffeted by a force of winds stronger than anything she had ever felt. Not even the winds they encountered on the plains could compare to these. They threw her towards the island and Saphira quickly realized that she had no hope of winning and had to go with the wind else they would be cast into the massive chasm below.
Saphira! Eragon shouted when she turned around...again. What are you doing. We need to get back to the boat.
These winds are to powerful for me Eragon, if I fight them we might be tossed into the chasm. We can't risk that. We'll just go to this land and then head back once the wind dies down. She argued back.
Fair enough, you know the wind as well as your own capabilities better than I. Eragon gave in and leaned against Saphira so that the wind was pulling on him.
Even with the wind at their backs it still took a few minutes to cross the chasm. When they reached the island and landed South of the plateau Eragon dug a hold, filled it with water and muttered the spell to contact others. The water clouded out then cleared and revealed a strange sight. It was a view of them from above then it shifted and seemed to move towards the chasm and back where they came from. It made it halfway across the chasm before the water clouded over again. At this Eragon's energy started draining at such a pace that he barely had time to end the spell before it killed him. The moment he ended the spell he felt a pressure on his head and he passed out. As he faded he could hear Saphira's roar as she could do nothing to help him.
