Posting a day later! Yay! This story, so far, has interested me greatly and I can't wait to see where it goes

Also I won't be doing a chapter from Link's point of view in the foreseeable future as I think it will be a nightmare for me.

Enjoy!

Eragon looked around, he was in a dark hallway with a man standing at the other side. This man was short, taller than the dwarves but as short as someone in their youth. He had pointed ears like an elf but he didn't have an angular face like one. He had yellow hair that reached down to his chin. He had blue eyes and strong features. A sword and shield rested on his back.

Eragon stared at the man. The man stared back. After a while the man turned and walked away.

Eragon woke up gasping. Saphira was standing over him, her eyes bearing into him.

As Eragon slowly stood up Saphira got out of his way and saw a mess of rocks, trees, and boulders strewn across the ground. It looked like the aftermath of an earthquake. The next thing that caught his eyes were the towers across the land. Great mechanical things similar to the machines they had seen earlier.

What happened? He asked.

A while after you passed out the ground started shaking and those towers erupted across the land.

After Saphira finished her narration Eragon's thoughts drifted back to the man from his dream. Who was he?

Saphira sensed this and sent a questioning thought to him. At this he shared his memory of the dream with her.

Hmmm... I don't know who that is but I have a feeling that we should find him, She said. He might be able to help us.

You might be right. Anyway, we had better find somewhere to stay for the night. My back is sore from laying on the ground.

Hmmm. I believe I saw a building a few miles southeast of us. It would take the remainder of the day if we walked. Sh explained. But if I flew you then we might be seen and we don't know how the people here might react.

I could run and you could walk and catch up. Eragon proposed. I could find out about how dragons here are treated.

I don't like sneaking around. Was her only reply. You know that, but I suppose it's necessary.

And with that they had made their decision. Eragon would run to the settlement and Saphira would follow slowly and stealthily.

What would have taken a normal man a day to traverse took Eragon an hour and so when he arrived the sun was at its peak. As he reached his destination he was greeted by a strange sight. The building looked more like a tent at the base except it had pieces of wood built into the structure and a wooden floor. There were two large holes in the front so Eragon could easily see inside. What was inside were 3 nice beds and 3 more luxurious beds. Two people were in the normal beds and one in one of the nicer ones.

Outside of the building was a fire with a cooking pot on it, several boxes littered the ground. And a medium size structure stood next to the building. The structure was primarily a black rock with several more familiar stones built into the front. There was something where a door would be, it was several rows of the same black rock but with a strange and ancient writing on it.

But, by far, the strangest thing of all was the top of the tent which was covered with wood and a few sparse bits of metal. The strange thing though was that it was shaped like the head of a horse but much much bigger.

As he approached the settlement he remembered to cover his ears and eyebrows with a strip of cloth from his shirt. As he neared the front he could see a small booth built into the front, right in between the two openings.

"How can I help you?" The man asked.

Eragon was startled at first that they spoke the same language.

"I was just passing through and became curious," he answered.

"Well if you have some questions then I'd be happy to answer them," the man answered with a cheery disposition.

"I was wondering what this place was called," Eragon stated as inconspicuous as possible.

"Well this is the Highland Stable!" The man answered. "If you didn't know, there are lots of stable across Hyrule. 15 to be exact, including us."

So this building is a stable, there are 14 others, and the land I am in is called Hyrule. Eragon thought to himself.

"Do you know if I might be able to get a bed?" He asked.

"Oh I don't know. You'd have to talk to the room keeper. He is on the other side of the booth. The part inside." The man seemed amused as Eragon walked into the stable and to the other side of the booth.

He soon realized why as the same man walked from the other side of the booth to the inside part.

"How can I help you?" The man asked with an amused smile on his face.

Eragon rolled his eyes and asked: "Would I be able to get a bed for the night?"

"Sure thing! The simple beds'll cost you 30 rupees and the soft ones will cost 60."

Eragon mentally slapped his face as he realized that he didn't have any coins. Or rupees, whatever those were.

"It seems I'm a bit short. Do you know where I might be able to get some?" Eragon asked.

"Well sure, Beetle is sitting over there. You should be able to get some out of him." The man gestured to a man sitting at the edge of the stable.

This "Beetle" was, in fact, a very skinny man with a backpack larger than himself. The backpack was beetle shaped so his name kind of made sense. In a weird way.

As Eragon walked over to him Beetle jumped up and shouted: "Hi!" Before calming down a bit, pulling a small board from his backpack that was connected to it by four ropes at each corner. The board rested in front of Beetle.

"How may I help you?" He pretty much shouted.

"The man over there," he gestured to the man at the booth. "Said I could get some rupees from you."

"Oh," Beetle said sadly. "Does that mean you don't want to buy?"

Eragon shook his head.

"Ok," said Beetle regaining some of his previous exhilaration. "Show me what you got."

Eragon realized that Beetle was a merchant and wouldn't just give him stuff. After his experience with the Varden giving him anything he wanted this challenge exhilarated him.

"What about that sword?" Beetle gestured to Brisinger.

Eragon almost laughed before replying "No, but do you know another way for me to get some rupees?"

"You could always pick up mushrooms. They don't sell for much but they are easy to find." Beetle suggested.

"Is there another way?" Eragon asked.

"You could always slay monsters," Beetle suggested. It can be more dangerous but some of their parts sell for some good amounts. Bokoblins are the easiest being just bigger than us. Lizalfos are slightly more difficult, they are smaller than bokoblins but are much faster and able to swim at incredible speeds. Moblins are very dangerous. They are much bigger than us and much stronger. They can wield 2 handed weapons with a single hand and are very hard to kill.

"But, whatever you do, do not engage combat with a lynel even the best warriors can die to a lynel."

By this time the sun was beginning to set so Eragon set off to Saphira's hiding place. She had chosen a great broken cylinder of bark from a massive tree that must have fallen. Whatever the tree was it's remains were gargantuan and large enough for Saphira to fit inside comfortably.

As the sun dipped below the horizon Eragon shared his memories and finding of the day with her and prepared for sleep, excited for the fighting he planned for tomorrow. Whatever these bokoblins were he hoped the fight would be exhilarating.

Ch 3 done! Been really fun writing this and I look forward to the stories ahead. If this seems a bit boring to you then please stick around. It will be more exciting in the future.
