"Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated."
-Mark Twain
Sorry I haven't posted recently. I've been a bit busy and haven't gotten around to it.
Well, I'll leave you to your reading.
Eragon woke with a start and shot up, only to encounter the skin of Saphira's wing.
What is it little one, Saphira yawned.
We have no way to contact Blodhgarm or anyone outside of this "Hyrule"! How do they know where we are? We didn't tell them where we were going!
Mmh, Saphira hummed. Exactly, we can't contact them so there's no reason for worrying if you can't fix anything.
Eragon froze for a moment and considered this. I guess you're right, but I still can't help thinking about it.
Well, now that we're up we might as well get some hunting in before we search for these monsters. Eragon suggested.
You go ahead, I'm not so hungry, Saphira blinked.
Eragon picked himself up and used his mind to search the surrounding area he located two squirrels and killed them with a quick word of magic then retrieved them, noticing that the spell took more energy than it should have.
The killing bothered him but he was in a new land and he didn't know what foods were safe.
After that he built a fire and skinned and gutted the squirrels before burying the entrails. After that he roasted the squirrels on a spit.
Once they were finished he gorged himself. Quickly realizing how ravenous he was. The last time he ate was the night before last.
But, despite being so hungry he the squirrels proved to big and he finished after eating the first one and half of the second.
Would you like half a squirrel? Eragon asked Saphira.
She promptly opened her mouth and he tossed the half into it. Her mouth closed with a crunch.
After the events finished Eragon sat down and leaned against Saphira. Just sitting and relaxing. Saphira hummed beside him.
Several hours later Eragon forced himself up and stretched. Saphira stretching like a cat next to him. After that they headed farther into the woods with Saphira flying high above him.
Soon after he could smell a campfire and cooking meat. A few minutes later and he could hear some grunting, almost pig-like. As he neared the fire he could see four strange oddities. They were all identical except for one that was a different color.
The two of the three that were the same were jumping about around the fire waving crude clubs while the other was standing on a platform with a bow in its hand. The creatures were slightly shorter than Eragon but looked like they weighed more. They had a big head with several large teeth. A single short horn was perched on their heads. And there nose looked like a pig's nose.
The one that stood apart was a different color from the others which were red-orange. This one was a dark blue and had a simple man-made sword and shield.
While observing the camp Eragon mentally slapped his face. He didn't have his bow, he'd left it on the boat before they left yesterday.
He quickly devised a plan. He waited until the one with a bow looked a way then dashed forward and jumped up onto the pedestal, which was only 6-7 feet tall, and jabbed his sword through the creature's skull. It went limp, turned black, and then promptly vanished into thin air leaving behind a broken off horn, a tooth, and a bow and a few arrows.
By this time the others had noticed and charged at him. Leaping 10 feet into the air they jumped at him, startling Eragon.
Do you need help, little one? Saphira asked from overhead.
No let me do this. I was itching for a fight.
The first creature collided with Eragon's sword and its limp body fell to the ground then disappeared. The second had its club cut in half before losing its head.
Finally the blue one was the only one left. It landed a couple feet in front of Eragon and swung at him. Eragon dodged and stabbed it in the chest. The creature stopped but then swung again and Eragon dodged, falling backwards, and scraped the creature's chest, barely.
At this the monster fell backwards dead and disappeared in a poof leaving behind a horn and what looked like a purple still pulsing organ.
After the fight ended Eragon collected the materials dropped, except for the clubs and sword, including the shield and bow and arrows. The bow looked like a crudely hacked stick with a string on it, but Eragon tested it and found that it still shot quite far, just not with much power.
Saphira landed and sniffed around the clearing before promptly snapping up the meat that had been roasting on the fire.
Hmm, where are the bodies. She asked.
I don't quite know, they disappeared in a puff of purple smoke when I killed them, leaving behind these when they did. Eragon explained then showed her the organ and teeth he'd collected.
Well, I'd like to get back to Beetle and see how much they cost. Eragon said. Also I'm curious on weather these were bokoblins, lizalfos, or moblins.
Fair enough.
Eragon climbed back onto Saphira's back and strapped himself into her saddle and she took off. Soon after they reached their camp and Eragon set out for the stable.
When he arrived he was greeted by Beetle. Eragon showed him his materials. The rewards were dismal. Three rupees for the horns, two for the teeth, but, surprisingly, the organ soled for 25 rupees.
"Are you ripping me off?" Eragon asked.
"Not at all! We merchants have a certain rule about people selling things to us. We all buy things for the same price but can sell our wares for whatever we want!" Was Beetle's reply.
"Hmm", Eragon responded. "Do you know any towns I could go to?"
"Sure! The safest town you could get to would probably be Kakariko Village." Beetle suggested. "They're good and dedicated warriors and they're protected by the mountain range their town is set in."
Looks like we know where we're going next, Saphira.
Looks like we do little one.
"Hello?" Beetle waved his hand in front of Eragon. "Anyone home?"
Eragon snapped back to focus and apologized, saying that he was just lost in thought.
He then proceeded to ask for directions to Kakariko. Beetle's reply was much more descriptive than Eragon expected but the information wasn't for him anyway. It was primarily for Saphira.
Once he finished Eragon said bye and headed back to Saphira. When he reached her the sun had set and they went right to sleep without dinner, filled, as they were, by a sense of excitement for the journey tomorrow.
Apparently the journey would take several days for most but Eragon expected it to take only part of the next day on Saphira. Also there weren't many inhabited places between the stable and the town.
Tomorrow we travel little one but for now we sleep.
For now we sleep. Agreed Eragon.
Chapter 4 is done! Can't wait for the next one!
Also from now on I will be posting the first part of a joke at the end of a chapter and the answer at the start of the next.
Here's the joke:
What did the alien say to the soda?
If you want you can post what you think the answer is or you can just keep your answer to yourself. Your choice.
