Prompt: "I just want to feel safe... Can you hold me?"

"Another day, another murder," Jane announced cheerfully as he entered the house.

And immediately, a punch was aimed at his face.

Jane's eyes widened in shock, and he wasn't able to avoid the punch in time before it hit him in the face, staggering backwards onto the porch, he stared at the man who punched him. Certainly someone who knew the victim in some way. The man was giving him a look of pure rage, reflected in his scent, as Lisbon came behind him. "Sir, we're going to have to take you to headquarters."

"Ma'am," the man said, enraged, "You need to control your men."

"And you need to control your temper," Lisbon shot back.

Despite being on the floor with his face burning with pain, Jane whistled. "Good one." Lisbon gave him a look, and the omega immediately shut up, though he still had a grin on his face.

Lisbon told Rigsby to take the man back to headquarters, and then helped Jane up. "Dumbass," she said. "You can't stay stuff like that when you walk onto the crime scene."

"Not even going to ask if I'm okay?" Jane asked.

"Well," Lisbon said dryly. "You are, aren't you?"

Jane thought about it for a bit, then nodded. "You're right, I am." He grinned. "I'm up and ready to investigate."

"And annoy even more people," Lisbon muttered.

"Yeah," Jane admitted. "That, too."

Lisbon sighed, then walked into the house. Jane followed her and caught the gaze of his boyfriend, Cho. The alpha's expression didn't betray much emotion, as usual, but Jane could tell he was concerned. He shot Cho a grin, then continued on towards the closest suspect.

The day just got worse.

The suspects got tired of the police's questioning and used Jane's rude behavior as an excuse to throw them all out of the house. Lisbon told them that they would be back at a later date, which the suspects did not look so excited about. So Jane, Cho, and Lisbon headed back to CBI headquarters.

And then, when Jane tried to question the suspect who was taken there earlier, he got punched in the face again.

"They're all suspicious," Jane said as he pressed an ice packet to his face. He was currently sitting on the couch, Cho beside him.

"Or they don't deal well with bullshit," Cho said flatly, which, fair, that was a good point. Jane grinned at him.

"Well then, who do we have left to question?"

"No one for you," Cho responded. "Lisbon wants you to take a break for the rest of the day."

"Aww, come on!" Jane complained, leaning closer to Cho. "Not even one person?"

"No," Cho said, refusing to even look at Jane. Rude.

"Sneak me out in your car when you question the next person," Jane suggested.

"No," Cho said again.

Jane sighed and leaned on the arm of the couch. "Oh, you're no fun."

When Cho left the couch to question his next suspect, Jane stretched his entire body out on it and soon, the omega was asleep.

The next day still wasn't going so well.

Finally, Lisbon had let Jane go investigate a suspect, with Rigsby tagging along. (Or, rather, Jane was tagging along with Rigsby, but it soothed his ego to think of it being the opposite way.) When they first arrived at the suspect's house and knocked on the door, it all seemed fine. The suspect seemed friendly enough, and Rigsby easily let down his guard. Jane was more suspicious, but he had been too busy making tea when suddenly, he was hit on the back of the head, and lost consciousness. When he finally came to, he and Rigsby were trapped in the suspect's cellar.

"I know you aren't here because Emily died!" The suspect called out.

"You're right," Jane called back. "It wasn't Emily that died. It was her sister, Jasmine."

"Whatever!" The suspect shouted back. "I know you're here for my drugs!"

"Your drugs?" Rigsby sounded startled.

"Yeah, he's a drug addict," Jane said, having had figured it out within moments of entering the house. Or, well, he had his suspicions, just no way to confirm them. Until now, he supposed.

"I'm keeping you guys here so you don't tell!" The suspect shouted, then his heavy footsteps moved away.

"Maybe you should have told me that he was a drug addict," Rigsby muttered.

Jane shrugged. "Eh, whatever." He knew that Rigsby was a beta and didn't have scent, but if he did, he would be smelling scared. Jane himself was actively fighting to keep his fear scent at bay. He hoped it wouldn't take much longer before the team came.

It didn't take too long before Lisbon, Cho, and Van Pelt arrived with backup. Jane felt relief wash over him as they poured into the cellar, freeing him and Rigsby. Maybe next time he suspected a suspect was a drug dealer, he'd tell the CBI team member with him.

When the case was finally wrapped up, Jane sat alone on the couch. Soon, he felt the couch dip down due to new weight on it, and turned to face Cho. "Hey, Kimball," he said with a grin.

"Hey," Cho replied. "You good?"

Jane stared at him in surprise. He thought he had kept any bad emotions away from his body and his scent. "Yeah, I'm fine."

"You don't seem fine," Cho said. "I know you. I'm dating you. And besides, this was a really bad case for you."

Jane shrugged. "I'm fine," he repeated.

"What do you want me to do?" Cho asked.

Jane paused, then whispered. "I just want to feel safe… Can you hold me?"

Cho nodded, then he wrapped his arms around Jane. The omega immediately relaxed into his hold, allowing his eyes to slip shut. Soon, he was asleep.
