Monkey Business on Mata Nui

By: Firework Warrior

Author's Note: I don't own Disney's Kim Possible, nor do I own LEGO's Bionicle. Otherwise the KP fans would already have a well-written Season Five with the original voice actors… and romance would be canon in the Bionicle universe. I couldn't find anything about timekeeping on Mata Nui, so I made a series of hours based on where the sun and moon appear in the sky. Speaking of time, this fic takes place before the events of "Mask of Light." Anyway, on with the show!

Possible Residence, Middleton

June 20, 2006

00h00

Kim was awake long before the sun came up. She stumbled out of bed, still drowsy. When she moved the curtains and saw it was dark out, she groaned and went back to bed. Apparently, her sleep schedule was still recovering from the latest mission to China.

She and Ron had stopped Monkey Fist and the traitorous ninja Fukushima. The two villains were in the midst of a mystical monkey ritual when Ron crashed in.

Kim told herself it was fine. At least she and Ron interrupted the ritual before anything bad happened.

Or so she hoped…

~ beep-beep-beep-beep ~

Kim grumbled as she fumbled for the Kimmunicator. "Why do bad things happen in the middle of the night…" Nonetheless, she picked up the call. She answered it. As usual, Wade was much more awake.

"Can this wait until I'm conscious?" Kim yawned.

"Sorry, Kim," said Wade, "but I have bad news. The mystical monkey ritual succeeded!"

"What?!" Kim was now fully awake.

"There's good news too," added Wade, "it didn't fully succeed."

"Wade, did you get their last location?"

"The old temple in China where they were doing the ritual. But right as the police showed up, Monkey Fist and Fukushima disappeared!"

Kim ran through the possible plans Monkey Fist could have come up with. None of them were good. Then she remembered an incident last year. Drakken and Shego had used a portal to access a futuristic island city. Their aim was to steal the technology, but it didn't work.

"What if they're in another dimension?"

Wade got quiet. "Check your pack."

Kim did just that. She pulled out a bulky watch. They looked familiar from somewhere, but she couldn't remember where. "They'll open a Portal. Ron has one too." Kim wound the watch counter-clockwise a few times, stopping on a picture that looked oddly familiar. It was two bow-like curves, holding three dots in a diagonal line. The dot in the middle was larger than the other two.

"Unity, Duty, Destiny." Kim whispered. "The symbol of the great spirit Mata Nui… and the island named after him."

No sooner had she said this than the air in front of her began to ripple and shine, opening a whirlpool-like hole. Through the hole, Kim saw the aerial view of an island in the rough shape of a hurricane symbol. It looked like Metru Nui, except for the complete lack of city lights and buildings. Someone was already in free-fall towards the island. That was Ron.

"I'm coming!" No time to hesitate. Kim jumped into the Portal. She was ready to save another world - just as she routinely saved her own.

Ta-Koro, Mata Nui

Highest Sun

"A twelve-hour time difference?" Ron complained, rubbing his eyes. "I'm already Portal-lagged."

Kim was much more alert. "Pull it together. We don't know what lives in this volcanic area." As if her words were a summon, some charred grasses began to rustle. An oversized biomechanical crab came bouncing out from beside them, pouncing on Ron and licking him like an excited puppy.

"Down, Pewku." The crab, presumably named Pewku, backed away from Ron and skittered back towards a two-foot-tall - person? He - or at least it sounded like a he - wore no clothing, instead clad in bright crimson armor. Brilliant golden eyes glowed from behind a peacock-blue hexagonal mask. A mask that currently showed a distrustful scowl.

"Who are you?" he asked.

"I'm Kim, and this is my boyfriend Ron." said Kim. Ron was still trying to wipe Pewku's slobber off. "We're here from another dimension." explained Ron.

The small person's distrust quickly shifted into amazement. "Aliens are real?! I need to tell Turaga Vakama! Well, more like show him!" He grabbed Ron's hand and dragged him towards Vakama's hut. "Name's Takua, by the way!" Pewku did an about-face and followed.

Kim, meanwhile, began to think as she caught up with Ron and Takua. The name "Vakama" rang a bell. Wasn't he a Toa on Metru Nui? Kim had a feeling that something had happened, and Takua didn't know about it. Most likely, Vakama was keeping a secret. If that were the case, it had to be for a really good reason.

The door to the hut opened, showing a much shorter, much older figure than Kim remembered. He was armored in muted orange hues instead of the earlier deep crimson, and his eyes had changed from light green to gold. Even his mask had changed - it was now a tall arch with sharp angles at the sides and a ridged protrusion at the bottom.

Kim's thought was interrupted by Takua's exclamation: "Turaga Vakama, I found aliens!"

Ron began to sputter a protest, but Vakama put up a hand. His mask took on a nostalgic expression as he addressed the teen heroes from earth. "Kim. Ron. I haven't seen you in a few hundred years..."

"Wait - you know them?!" interrupted Takua.

"Yes, I met them when I was younger. Much younger." Vakama was less than amused. "Don't you have a kohlii match to practice for?"

Takua rushed out, making a hasty bow. Once outside, he vaulted over his kohlii stick and mask-planted on the ground. Pewku nudged Takua's shoulder and stood him up again. Finally, Vakama had some privacy to talk with Kim and Ron.

"We may have trouble on the island." Vakama was immediately getting into it. "Late last night, a Portal opened and dropped two fullly organic beings on the island. One is a human, but I'm not sure what the other one is." He took a deep breath. "He has human features, except for the hands and feet of a Brakas."

"Um, what's a Brakas?" asked Kim.

"A creature that lives on this island, mostly in Le-Koro." said Vakama, not bothering to explain further.

"Monkey Fist and Fukushima…" Ron's eyes narrowed.

"You know them?" asked Vakama.

"Not on a friendly basis. They're two more villains." explained Kim.

"And my worst enemies." spat Ron. "When I get my hands on that ninja traitor…"

Vakama got the hint. "Well, don't let me delay you. They sound dangerous." He clanked fists with Kim and then Ron. "Good luck."

Ga-Koro, Mata Nui

Golden Sun

Kim and Ron looked out over Naho Bay and saw the giant lily-pads where the Ga-Matoran built their homes. They glanced at each other, nodded silently in agreement, and began to jump from lily-pad to lily-pad. It was going fine until Ron fell in with a loud SPLASH! Ron was struggling to stay afloat, as Kim had expected. She prepared to shoot the line from her grappling hook hairdryer… but a Ga-Matoran in a fishing boat was trawling her net. Ron was trapped!

"Vhisola, check this out! I caught a whopper!" Her sky-blue mask, similar in shape to Vakama's, held a grin, while her lighter blue arms strained to pull the net back in.

"You always say that, Macku…" groaned a royal blue Ga-Matoran from a nearby lily-pad, rolling her sunrise-orange eyes.

"No, really! Check this out!"

Kim cleared her throat, catching both Macku's and Vhisola's attention. "That's not a whopper. That's my boyfriend." Macku didn't seem to get the hint. She rowed up closer to the lily-pad and pulled an unimpressed Vhisola into the boat. "Help me reel it in!"

"What did I just…" Kim didn't get to finish her sentence. With a considerable amount of effort, they began to pull the net back into their boat. Ron was sputtering for air and struggling against the snare. This made it more difficult for the two Ga-Matoran, and eventually Vhisola had enough. She let go of the net and Ron practically launched onto the lily-pad that Kim was standing on.

"As I was saying…" Kim was ready to show Macku that messing with Ron was a bad idea, but was once again interrupted.

"Hey, wait a second…" Recognition flashed in Macku's eyes. "Turaga Nokama told me about you! You're Kim and Ron!"

"And I'm not a whopper!" Ron grumbled.

"Told you." muttered Vhisola. Macku heard it and huffed.

"Could we please just get along?" A new voice entered the conversation. A short, dark blue figure with an oval-shaped, light blue mask and sunny yellow eyes approached, holding a small trident. It was Nokama. She tried to get Ron out, but her trident got tangled up too.

"Never worry-fear, Turaga Matau's here!"

Nokama cringed, watching the light green Turaga approach with his staff… which had a circular saw at the end. Matau revved up the saw and came closer to the net. Ron froze.

"Matau, NO." Nokama sounded like she was giving a final warning to a misbehaving student. But as usual, Matau didn't listen. The circular saw sliced through the net, freeing Ron and untangling Nokama's trident.

"Excuse us. We have a net to fix." Vhisola pulled the shredded net with one hand and Macku with the other. They got back into the boat and rowed off.

Nokama led Kim and Ron to her home. It was made of dried seaweed and driftwood, in the shape of a dome. Matau was quick to follow.

"Matau, Nokama, are you still together?" asked Ron.

Matau brightened up instantly. "Six thousand years and still have my love-dear." He saw the baffled looks on the humans' faces.

"Aging works differently when you're not fully organic," explained Nokama.

"There's a problem," said Kim, instantly changing the subject. "Two villains from our world were performing a ritual…"

Ron finished the sentence, "…and according to Vakama, they ended up here."

Matau got uncharacteristically quiet. "What sort of ritual?"

"A mystical monkey ritual," said Kim, "although they didn't complete it."

Matau shuddered. "Strange-weird." Suddenly he heard the hummingbird-like buzz of a Gukko bird's wings. He exited Nokama's hut, holding his love's hand. Kim and Ron were right behind him.

The bird flew lower and a Le-Matoran hopped off. He made a chirping noise and waved his hand as if saying goodbye. His mount took off but hovered nearby.

His body was the hue of a spring leaf, with a vivid green Mask of Levitation. Matau recognized him as Kongu. Kongu's posture was stiff and the ridges above his neon green eyes were raised in fear.

"Kongu, something bad-wrong?" asked Matau.

"Fast-urgent news from Le-Koro!" Le-Matoran and other air types were known to be fast talkers, but Kongu was practically babbling. "Some of the Brakas went fight-crazy!"

Kim remembered Vakama had mentioned Brakas earlier but not explained what they were. "Um, what are Brakas?" she asked.

Ron interjected, "They sound sick and wrong…"

"They're a jungle Rahi," explained Nokama, "I guess the closest thing you have on earth are monkeys."

At that Ron grimaced. "I knew it!" Then his face twisted into something almost terrifying. Matau and Nokama couldn't look away as Ron's brown eyes started glowing a ghostly blue.. "When I get my hands on Monkey Fist and Fukushima…!"

"Who?" Kongu interrupted.

Ron snapped out of it, and his eyes went back to normal. "Two villains from our world. And they're going down."

"What's the fastest way to the jungle?" asked Kim.

Kongu let out a sharp whistle, and made an exaggerated "come here" gesture with both hands. The bird he had been riding on earlier arrived and landed. With that, Kongu swung a leg over her back and straddled, as if getting on a horse. Then he whistled again, calling another bird to the area. "Ever wind-flown a Gukko?!" asked Kongu with a childlike grin.

"I've flown second…" Ron began.

Kim interrupted with the full truth, "In a stunt plane."

"Then today's for quick-learning!" Kongu's grin only got bigger. "Get on!" Kim mounted first, then Ron got behind her.

"Jade, Wild Orchid, let's wind-fly!" cheered Kongu. Jade, Kongu's bird, took off first. Wild Orchid, the bird Kim and Ron were trying to stay balanced on, practically launched herself into the sky. Ron clutched Kim's back.

"Hang on!" Kongu called to the teen heroes.

"Thanks! That was my plan!" Ron snarked.

Ga-Koro seemed to rapidly shrink as the two Gukko birds and their respective riders went higher and higher, soaring into the slowly dimming skies.

Le-Koro, Mata Nui

Early Sunset

Although it was time to head back into their treehouses for the evening, many of Le-Koro's residents remained on high alert. A large group of Brakas had become more aggressive than usual, practically swarming the village and then leaving. Lewa followed to fight them, but had not yet returned. Worse, a fully organic "stealth-warrior" and his master were on the loose. Nobody was safe until these problems were solved.

Ron could sense the tension and restlessness. "They won't have to worry for long," he muttered, his eyes beginning to glow ghostly blue. Just then, the two heard a muffled call for help. It snapped Ron's focus, again.

"What?" Kim looked towards the voice. Wild Orchid sensed danger and hid among the canopy. Kim peeked out from behind the leaves and saw a tall green-and-silver armored figure… bound by thick vines with a gag. Nearby, lying on a thick branch, were two silver air katana.

"Oh no. Is that…" whispered Ron.

"Toa Lewa?" finished Kim in the same whisper. "But how did he get in that mess?"

"I'm not sure… but we're going to get him out of it." Ron's eyes began to blaze neon blue.

"Ron," warned Kim, "I don't know if your powers will work in a different dimension."

"Only one way to find out." Ron focused his mystical monkey powers. Ron's body gained a brilliant blue aura… but it immediately dimmed and disappeared. "Oh, come on!" he complained. "Why won't they work?"

An oily tenor interrupted, "Because you're not a true master of Da Sheng Pi Gua." Monkey Fist emerged across from the heroes.

"Monkey Fist!" Ron snarled. "You messed with another dimension, you're gonna pay!" He focused again, trying to summon the Lotus Blade… but nothing happened.

"They're just machines," scoffed Fukushima as he descended from a vine, "and weak ones at that. This one dared to follow us and try to stop our plan."

Lewa tried to say something in protest, but the words were muffled by the gag.

"Be silent!" Monkey Fist prodded Lewa's side with a lance. Lewa tensed up in pain.

"Picking on a Toa is one thing. At least that's a fair fight!" said Kim. "But trying to harm innocent Matoran is another!"

"Why are you so invested in another world's inhabitants?" asked Monkey Fist, raising an eyebrow.

"Because everyone deserves to live in safety and not be attacked by monkeys!" Ron leapt from the branch he was on and landed near Lewa's air katana. He reached for the Toa Tools and managed to pick them up.

"You've never learned the art of two blades!" Fukushima taunted. He dodged Ron's swings, and tried tricking Ron into dropping at least one of the air katana. "You can't do it!"

"No…" Ron made a signal to Kim, and she landed by Lewa. She pulled a laser lipstick from her pocket. The intense red beam easily sliced through the thick vines that bound him. He ripped the gag out of his mouth.

"But I can!" Ron handed the air katana back to Lewa. All three heroes, human and Toa alike, stood as one team.

Monkey Fist and Fukushima began to chant. It was a signal to the Brakas!

"Low-duck!" Lewa warned as the biomechanical monkeys jumped at Ron. Ron crouched, barely missing a Brakas that had aimed for his face. Kim snapped a stick from a dying branch and used it like a bo staff, bludgeoning some Brakas and tossing others aside. Lewa knocked some clear out of the trees with a strong gust of wind.

But even though Lewa, Kim, and Ron were the better fighters, there were simply too many enemies. Sheer numbers could overrun strength...

"It's your dark-luck day, Rahi-spawn!" Lewa spat.

He took to the air. Shouting a warning to Kim and Ron, Lewa caused a sudden drop in the barometric pressure. Fukushima was used to the thin mountain air in his home country of Japan, but Lewa had made the air six times thinner! The traitorous ninja fainted, and plummeted from the branch. Monkey Fist also fell. Without the mystical monkey chant controlling them, the once-aggressive Brakas left in peace.

"Never got your names," Lewa said after bringing the air pressure back to normal.

"Kim Possible, but you can call me Kim."

"Ron's the name!" Ron boasted. "Say, um, where are the Le-Matoran and Turaga Matau?"

As if on cue, the sounds of music and dancing reached their ears.

"Having party-fun!" cheered Lewa. "Quick-follow me!"

Le-Koro, Mata Nui

Late Sunset

Kim and Ron sat in a place of honor at the celebration. Nokama was seated next to Matau, along with a few Ga-Matoran. Takua had also shown up - after all, who else would tell the story?

"I tell a tale

I sing a song

Of two new heroes:

Kim and Ron."

"They came to our island

Crossing space and time

To stop two villains

At their evil prime."

"Brakas went bananas…"

Kim and Ron laughed at Takua's pun. And now that the threat was no more, everyone else laughed too.

"…Controlled by the bad guys

Kim and Ron fought them off

And took the shadows by surprise!"

"It was looking bleak

But the villains did fall

Toa and humans worked together:

They saved us all!"

Cheers erupted from the partygoers.

"Though this ends our tale

Closing the rhyme

Kim and Ron, in our world

You are welcome anytime."

The music picked up again - slower this time. It sounded familiar to the teen heroes.

"Kim, may I have this dance?" asked Ron, extending a hand. Kim placed her hand in his, and they began to dance. They looked over and saw Matau dancing with Nokama, and some of the more forward Ga-Matoran looking for dance partners of their own. It was truly a wonderful night. And the island of Mata Nui was safe once more.

But all great adventures must come to an end. Kim and Ron had accomplished their mission. They could feel the pull of the Portal that would take them back to Middleton. Saying one last farewell to the residents of the island, Kim and Ron walked away towards the setting sun.

"Oof!" Ron landed on top of Kim in the front yard. He quickly stood up.

"Still portal-lagged?" teased Kim.

"Not with you, KP." Ron smiled. "We can watch the sunrise…"
