Chapter 10: Buggy battle
Ash and his class were now looking out over the small city of Cortondo, ecstatic about finally arriving at their first city in the field trip. "Finally" Exclaimed Gus "We made it to a city, I was getting sick of camping out in the cold." "What's the matter?" teased Vanny "Can't handle a little grass?" "I'll see to it that you can't handle a pokeball" Gus shot back "Let's keep the hostilities down please" Ash stepped in, quelling the situation. They eventually checked into a hotel, made a quick stop at the Pokemon Center, and settled down for the night.
"Phew, so far so good" Ash said to himself as he unpacked his gear, with Pikachu bouncing on the bed that he and Ash were sharing, enjoying the cool, silky sheets that covered the mattress.
"You better get ready Pikachu, tomorrow we are facing our first Paldea gym leader" Ash declared as he changed into his pajamas, with Pikachu replying with a "Pika" before dozing off.
Time skip
It was now morning time, and Ash and his class were all gathered in the dining area for breakfast. "So" Zeke said, breaking the silence "What are you all going to do today?" "I'm gonna do some sight seeing" Carla said with enthusiasm "Yeah" Felia also replied "There are lots of stores to go and window shop around. "Remember, we only buy the essentials" Nemona stated as she swallowed her sausage "Lighten up Nemona, we should all take this chance to explore Paldea's culture, who knows what kinds of stuff we'll learn from this field trip" Ash said.
"He's right" Gus said "There's also the matter of the foes we will fight" "And the Pokemon we will meet along the way" Thomas said with pancake in his mouth. However, this caused him to choke, only for Arven to approach him and give him the Heimlich maneuver "And to make learn about safety as well" He said rather smugly.
After everyone was finished with breakfast, they all went out to explore the city "Remember, be back at the arena at 11AM sharp" Ash stated "Got it" They all said before running off.
Ash and Pikachu then entered the gym building, which looked like a place to sign up for something. "Excuse me ma'am" Ash said "I'm here to face the gym leader" The receptionist looked up and smiled. "Of course, you're Ash Ketchum, correct?" She asked "That's me" Ash replied. "Alright, follow me to the gym test" She said "Gym test?" Ash said to himself before shrugging and following her.
They eventually entered where there seemed to be a fence maze of sorts. "Your gym test is the Olive Roll Challenge" The receptionist declared "Olive Roll Challenge?" Ash questioned.
"Yes, all you need to do is roll the giant olive from the start all the way to the red goal at the end" "Sounds easy enough" Ash said as he entered the area where the giant olive was located. "Aaaaaaand BEGIN!"
The test has now begun, and Ash and Pikachu began to push the olive through the maze, it bounced around like a ball. "Man, this thing is slippery" Ash panted as he ran to catch up to it.
It wasn't long before he ran into a blockade of Smoliv cutting off his path. "Nope, can't go that way" So Ash turned around and found another path that wasn't cut off by Smoliv and continued on.
Eventually, he found the goal and kicked it right in, making it through the test. "Congratulations, you passed the gym test, report back to the building to get ready for your gym battle" The receptionist announced over a speaker system "Come on Pikachu" Ash said as they bolted back ot the building.
Eventually, Ash found himself in the arena where the gym battle will take place, eager for the match. He is then greeted by woman, whom was dressed in a chef's outfit. "This must be the gym leader Katy" Ash said to himself, ready for whatever she may throw at him.
"That was some impressive olive rolling young man, but don't expect this to be any easier" Katy said with her usual tone of enthusiasm "I'm not expecting it to be easy" Ash shot back, getting into a battle stance. "Then let's make this match a delicious one" Katy proclaimed, pulling out a pokeball and sending out a small grasshopper Pokemon "Go my little Nymble!" "Nymble?" Ash said to himself as he looked it up in his Rotom Phone.
Nymble, the Grasshopper Pokemon, a bug type
It keeps its third set of legs folded, it will use these legs to jump over 30 feet when in danger
"A small Pokemon requires a strong opponent, let's go Wattrel!" Ash shouted as he sent out his storm petrel Pokemon "Waaaaaatt" cried the little bird.
"We'll go first, Nymble, use Tackle!" Katy ordered, which Nymble did as it leapt towards Wattrel. "Dodge, and use Peck" Ash countered, and the little bird got out of the way and jabbed the grasshopper with his beak. "You shouldn't have done that, use Assurance!" Katy said, and Nymble's legs glowed black and it smacked Wattrel with them, sending him to the ground "Nymble!" Ash shouted in worry, but Wattrel got back up, ready to again. "Alright, use Thundershock, we'll use ranged attacks from now on" Wattrel fired a jolt of lightning towards the little grasshopper "Dodge with Agility." Nymble began to speed up as it hopped away from each shot of lightning that Wattrel fired at it.
"Grr, if this keeps up, Wattrel will run out of power, we gotta get that Nymble to slow down" Ash muttered, until he got an idea. "Charge in with Peck!" Wattrel charged in with his beak extending "Get ready to use Assurance Nymble" Katy giggled as Nymble was ready to strike back at his opponent. That was when Ash made his move "Thunder Wave!" Cancelling the attack, Wattrel let loose a weak wave of electricity, paralyzing Nymble, and slowing him down.
"Oh no!" Katy shouted in surprise, her Nymble was now slowed down, and it can't avoid any of Wattrel's attacks anymore. "Now let's wrap this up, use Peck!" Ash commanded, and Wattrel charged in and slammed into the grasshopper, and it fell with swirls in his eyes.
"Nymble is unable to battle, Wattrel wins" The referee announced, and Katy recalled Nymble "Very good young man, but let's see if you can handle this" She said before sending out her next Pokemon, a slender spider Pokemon.
Spidops, the Trap Pokemon, a bug type
The evolved form of Tarountula, it covers its territory in tough silk to use as traps for intruders, they can take out their prey before they know what hit them.
"Wattrel, can you take this one?" Ash asked to which he got a firm "Watt" as a sort of yes. "Alright, let's do it! Use Thundershock!" Wattrel then fired a jolt of lightning at Spidops, but Katy was ready.
"Spidops, use Endure" Katy said, which Spidops responded by crossing its legs and withstanding the attack as it soon dissipated. "That isn't going to work, use Peck!" Wattrel charged in with his beak, but this was what Katy had wanted, as Wattrel struck Spidops, Katy issued her command "Use Counter." One of Spidops' legs glowed red and it struck Wattrel right in the beak "Oh no!" shouted Ash. "Now, use String Shot" Katy ordered, and the tips of Spidops' legs fired streams of silk that wrapped up Wattrel.
"Now, swing him around" Spidops then swung Wattrel around like a lasso, before slamming into onto the ground, combined that with the damage he had already sustained, and he was out for the count.
"Wattrel is unable to battle, Spidops wins" "Wattrel, return!" Ash recalled his Wattrel before pulling out his next pokeball.
"Fuecoco, I choose you!" Ash then sent out his fire croc Pokemon to face Spidops. "Fuecoco, use Ember" Fuecoco then launched a fireball from his mouth, but Spidops dodged it with ease thanks to his skinny body. "Use Pounce" Covered in bug energy, Spidops hopped onto Fuecoco, stomping him to the ground and holding him there.
"Now, use String Shot" Spidops then pinned Fuecoco down with silk, but this poroved to be a big mistake.
"Use Ember on the silk" Ash ordered, and just like that, Fuecoco set the silk up in flames as it travelled up to Spidops' feet and it set him ablaze. "Oh dear!" Katy shouted in horror as Spidops was frantically hopped around to try and put out the flame. "Now, use Round!" Fuecoco lets out an ear piercing cry that Spidops had no chance of defending against, and he went down.
"Spidops is unable to battle, Fuecoco wins!" Katy then returned her Spidops, ready to send out her last Pokemon. "Oh dear, this battle is getting quite spicy, but we will not lose, Teddiursa serve them a defeat!" She then sends out the little bear Pokemon, which confused Ash, why is a bug type specialist using a normal type like Teddiursa?
"Fuecoco, use Snarl" Ash shouted as Fuecoco let out a menacing sound in the form of an expanding dark sphere. "Cover your ears" Katy commanded, and Teddiursa covered her ears, and the Snarl attack didn't affect her. "Now, use Fury Cutter" With lime green claws, Teddiursa ran up and slashed at Fuecoco, doing increasing damage with each swipe.
"Stop her with Disarming Voice!" Ash ordered, which managed to push away Teddiursa, but things were starting to get difficult. "Now, use Sweet Scent" Teddiursa then emitted a pleasant aroma that made Fuecoco woozy and defenseless. "Now, use Slash" With Teddiursa extending her claws and making a mighty swipe through Fuecoco's torso, knocking him out.
"Fuecoco is unable to battle, Teddiursa wins" "Fuecoco, return!" Both Ash and Katy are both down to their last Pokemon, whoever goes down first determines the outcome of the battle.
"You're up Pikachu" "Pika pi" Pikachu hopped into the arena, ready to take on this tough teddy. "Use Sweet Scent" Katy ordered, but Ash was ready "Fan it away with Iron Tail" Pikachu's tail turned silver and he spun it like a fan, blowing away the scent. "Hmm, this will be tricky" That was when Katy pulled out a tera orb, and she then retruned Teddiursa into her pokeball before then being surrounded by energy from the tera orb. She then sent Teddiursa back out again, only now it looked crystalline, and had a crown that had the wings and antannae of an insect.
"So that's Terastallizing" Ash said to himself as he pulled out his own tera orb "You ready Pikachu?" "Pikachu." Instead of returning Pikachu to his pokeball, he instead aimed the tera orb at Pikachu and shot the energy at him, terastallizing him in the process. He also gained the crystalline texture, only his crown had balloons on it. "Looks like this gave Pikachu the flying type" Ash said.
"Teddiursa, use Fury Cutter" "Use Quick Attack" Both Pokemon clashed with physical attacks, but Teddiursa's strikes increased in power and she then sent Pikachu back. "Gah!, there's gotta be a move I can use to take advantage of Pikachu's tera type" That was when he remembered the balloons on Pikachu's crown. "Well, it's worth a shot"
"Finish him off with Slash" Katy ordered, and Teddiursa ran towards Pikachu "Use Fly!" Ash ordered, and Pikachu then hopped into the air, far out of Teddiursa's reach. He then dropped down hard onto the little bear, dealing massive damage.
"Oh no! Quick Teddiursa, get out of there!" Katy shouted in a panic, clearly not expecting such an unusual move. "Let's finish this, use Thunderbolt!" Ash ordered, and Pikachu let loose his signature electric blast, electrocuting the poor bear in the process and knocking her out cold.
"Teddiursa is unable to battle, Pikachu wins, which means the match goes to the challenger" Katy then returned her Teddiursa to her pokeball, applauding it for its hard work, while Pikachu returned to normal and ran up to Ash.
"Way to go Pikachu, we won the battle!" "Pika pi!" Katy then walked over to Ash with a badge in hand. "You won this battle, and deliciously might I add, I concede to you this: The colony badge." Ash then took the badge, and admired it "Alright! I got the colony badge!" He, Pikachu, Fuecoco, and Wattrel all did a celebratory pose.
They then saw the class approach the arena "Hey sir, did you win the badge?" Penny asked. "I sure did" Ash replied, holding the badge to them. They all admired how shiny it looked. "I can't wait to see what the other badges look" Vanny said speechless "I want to see what kind of terastallized Pokemon are" Felia added. "Well, we'll be sure to to check those out later on down the line" Ash proclaimed before they headed off for lunch.
