Chapter 19: Lechonk's great nose
"LET'S EAT!"
The entire class had started to dig in to a large lunch that Arven had prepared himself. The lunch consisted of many sandwiches, which Ash later found out was the specialty of Paldea.
Ash considered Arven to be the Brock/Cilan/Clemont of the group, in that he handles the cooking and general culinary related duties of the group. As they ate, they decided to converse with each other.
"So Thomas" Vanny started "What got you interested in poison types?" Thomas replied with "Well, I always foundd them to be pretty cool, I dunno but their sense of style always appealed to me more than other types of Pokemon" "Well that's cool" Vanny finished. "What about you Carla, why are you interested in water types?" "Well you see" Carla said "I always admired those experts in water types, those like Wallace or Juan have always inspired me to become a water type expert, and with Dondozo by my side, I can get closer to my dream" Carla eexplained with a smile on her face. "Well, if you ask me, I always thought bug types had that particular charm to them, I think it's because of how unique they looked or how they behaved" Felia added.
Next was Zeke to explain his goal "I always felt that fairy types were simply awe inspiring, ever since I got my Fidough, I wanted to break the stigma that fairy types are only for girls" "Wow, we're looking at someone going against the norm" Gus remarked.
As they continued to talk, they were unaware of a small brown piglet Pokemon sniffing at the ground, looking for food.
"Le le lechonk"
It's stomach growled, and it gained a pained face, having not eaten for a while it seems. That was until it saw the picnic table and the various scraps of food that got underneath. It's mouth watered at the sight of the morsels and it dashed towards the table and proceeded to chomp down on them.
"What the heck is that?" Nemona said, hearing the sound of munching. "Hey I'm not a loud eater!" Vanny defended "And besides, Ash here has the biggest appetite." "Oh, real smooth there Vanny" Ash glared at his student with Pikachu letting out an annoyed "Pika".
That was when they looked underneath the table to see the pig munching on the leftovers.
"Wow! A Lechonk!" Nemona said.
"Lechonk?" Ash asked while pulling out his Rotom Phone.
Lechonk: The Hog Pokemon, a normal type
It uses its sense of smell to search and eat only the most ripe of berries, it radiates an aroma that repels bug types.
"I can definitely smell that aroma" Felia said while holding her nose. Behind her, Rellor and Vivillon were also holding their noses, or nonexistant nose in the case of Vivillon.
Lechonk merely oinked as it gulped down the last of the scraps before belching.
"Tch, such horrid table manners" Arven muttered as he put away the dishes for cleaning. That was when Lechonk found the Pokemon food and began to dig into it all. "Hey, that ain't for you!" Vanny yelled as he grabbed the Hog, only for it to Headbutt her in the face, leaving it flattened in a comical manner. Gus tried to grab Lechonk as well, but got blinded by Mud Slap, making him crash into Thomas and Carla.
"Gah! Who'd thought a little Lechonk could cause this much trouble" Ash bemoaned before he sent out his Dunsparse to battle it. Lechonk hit Dunsparse with a Headbutt attack, but the land snake stood firm before retaliating with an Ancient Power attack, flinging glowing orbs at the hog.
Seeing how it was starting to get outnumbered, Lechonk decided to burrow into the ground with Dig to escape, but Dunsparse was hot on his tail and dug after him as well. "Come on Dunsparse, find that glutton" Arven shouted as he just gotten the last of the dishes washed.
Underground, Lechonk was being followed close behind by Dunsparse, whom was unable to shake off. However, he then had an idea of flinging a Mud Slap attack at his pursuer, and it worked, as Dunsparse was blinded and can't find his target, he ended up running into walls and dead ends, and he eventually lost track of the hog. Defeated, Dunsparser returned to the surface forced to report to his trainer that he lost the target.
"Did you lose em?" Ash asked, to which Dunsparse replied with a solemn "Spaaarse." "That is one slippery pig, how will we catch it?" Vanny asked, to which Arven replied with "I think I have an idea."
Later
"Are you sure this is the best idea?" Gus asked, rather skeptical about the chef's plan. "Positive, Lechonk are known for their great sense of smell, so when he smells that sausage, we will come running" Arven said, having an evil grin on his face the whole time.
True to his word, Lechonk eventually did come sniffing around and he smelled the sausage. His mouth was watering at the sight of the scrumptious food item, and soon grabbed it, and gulped it down in one bite.
"Now's my chance" Arven whispered as he primed a pokeball and threw it at Lechonk, and before the hog could react, it was sucked into the ball, and was captured.
Arven walked up to his successful capture and picked it up "This little fella will come in handy for searching for food" he stated as he let the hog out.
That proved to be a big mistake as he began to run around the campsite, with Arven having to try and grab him so he wouldn't get away. But that proved to be easier said than done, as Lechonk is very slippery and swift on his hooves, almost running away from the campsite entirely.
Thankfully, Orthworm was able to stop him from escaping with his large body, and was then flanked by some of the other larger Pokemon like Dondozo, Lycanroc, and Greedent.
Lechonk then charged out with a Headbutt, getting past the blockade, until Arven had an idea.
"Here, take this!" He shouted as he threw a Sitrus Berry at the hog. Lechonk saw the berry and grabbed it in his mouth. Arven then walked up to him, treading on the side of caution in the case Lechonk would run off again. He then eventually managed to pet the hog, and it oinked happily.
"Phew, I'm glad that's over" Arven breathed out while wiping the sweat from his brow.
"Nice one Arven" Gus praised, impressed with out he didn't have to battle to catch the slippery hog.
"Yeah, he may be a nice addition to your team" Vanny said as she and Nacli got ready to continue their training.
Lechonk would eventually find some ripe berries that Arven would eventually use for his meals, something that Arven was grateful for.
