Chapter: 20 Ash vs Misty, battle for Finizen
Ash and his class were now at the edge of a coast, fishing for any possible Pokemon to either catch or battle.
Arven was having his Quaxly swim around for any potential water types to fish out, and so far, he managed to fish out a Tynamo and a Magikarp, but nothing much, so he just decided to let them go.
Carla was by far the most focused out of all of them, having her Dondozo and Veluza scour the water for any new Pokemon, but they weren't having much luck.
"(Sighs) This is so boring" Gus moaned as he had a loose grip on his fishing rod. "I know it may seem so but if you just be patient, you will eventually get a bite" Nemona told him.
Speaking of which, Gus' fishing rod eventually hooked up something, and Gus pulled his catch out of the water, which revealed itself to be a Shellder.
"Cool, a Shellder!" Gus shouted, as he sent his Tadbulb and Capsakid to weaken it. Because they were both at a type advantage, they defeated it easily. "Alright!" Gus then pulled out a pokeball with blues on the top. "Dive Ball, GO!" He shouted as he threw the ball. It turned Shellder into red energy and sucked him in, and the ball wobbled around for a few moments until it dinged.
"Sweet! Another Pokemon that evolves with an evolution stone!" Gus shouted as he held his new catch. "That reminds me" Ash remarked "Don't you have a Cloyster Arven?" Arven then replied with "Yeah, he's back at the academy though" He said while his Quaxly continued to look for more water types.
Nearby, Ash's Toedscool was wading through the water, enjoying the sensation it gave him, that was until something tripped him over and made him splash into the shore.
"Toedscool, are you alright?" Ash asked the woodear Pokemon, and that was when an eal like Pokemon popped its head out. It looked a lot like a Diglett, but was thinner, and was white in color.
"What is that? it looks like a Diglett" Ash said as he pulled out his Rotom Phone.
Wiglett: The garden eel Pokemon, a water type
Even though it resembles Diglett, it is not related to the ground type in any way, they can sense Veluza over 65 feet away
"Pefect for me" Carla shouted as she sent her Veluza to battle it. But immediately, Wiglett hid under the lakebed, forcing Carla to send her Dondozo to force it out.
Dondozo used Wave Crash to force Wiglett out of the lakebed, allowing Carla to catch it with ease.
"That's another water type for me" Carla said whilst winking.
Nemona was seen relaxing on the sand as Charcadet was seen meditating right beside her, and Sprigatito was seen napping with her. Pawmot meanwhile was seen digging through the beach until she came across a Pallosand, whom was unhappy with her intruding onto its turf and it flung sand in her eyes, causing her to run around.
Thankfully, Quaxly used Water Gun on her eyes to wash away the sand, to which she was very grateful for.
While Ash was happy that Gus and Carla had gotten Pokemon, he was hoping he could get a water type as well, but he was not having much luck. He saw his Wattrel flying among the sea breeze as well as his Fuecoco, Nymble, and Dunsparse were seen playing in the sand.
That was when he felt a tug on his rod, and it immediately began to pull on him, which caused him to pull back in a reflex. "Pikachu, I could use some help here!" Pikachu then grabbed onto the rod and began pulling along with Ash until they pulled out the catch.
It was revealed to be a bluish dolphin of sorts, with white markings and a sort of ring on its tail.
"Well, let's see what we have here" Ash said as he checked his Rotom Phone.
Finizen: The Dolphin Pokemon, a water type
It likes to play with others of its kind, its water ring is made from seawater mixed with a sticky fluid
"Awesome! A water type like this could come in very handy" Ash said as he sent out his trusty Pikachu to do battle. Finizen was quick to act as it sent out powerful soundwaves in the form of a Supersonic attack, but Pikachu easily avoided the attack. "Nice one Pikachu, now use Iron Tail!" "Pikachu pika" Pikachu's tail glowed silver and he swung it at Finizen, knocking him back into the ocean.
"Alright, Pokeball go!" Ash threw a pokeball into the water, but he also saw another pokeball get thrown into the water as well. Eventually, both pokeballs floated back up to the surface.
Ash looked to where the pokeball was thrown towards and he saw a familiar redhead looking back at him. "Misty?" "Ash?" Ash couldn't believe he saw one of his older travelling partners again, and at a time like this.
"Misty, what a surprise!" Ash exclaimed "Same here, and what's with the walking Tentacool?" Misty replied while pointint to Toedscool. "Oh this little fella? This is a Toedscool, he resemble a Tentacool, but he's not related to one" Ash explained. "Well that doesn't make sense" Misty said with a deadpanned look on her face "There are some things that are hard to explain my friend" Ash said "Pikachu pi" Pikachu added.
"Oh my gosh!" Carla then ran up to Misty and shook her hand. "I have heard so much about you over the news, you along with Wallace are a huge inspiration." "Umm, thanks?" Misty said while fluttered.
"So Ash, are these your new travel partners?" Misty asked, to which Ash replied with "Technically yes, but they are also my students." "Students?!" Misty questioned, almost skeptically, to which Ash pointed to a badge on his vest, which is given to Narauva Academy instructors. "Oooooohh, I see now" Misty said, realizing what Ash said was true.
"What are you doing here?" Ash started the conversation "Doing what I usually do, catching water types, and it seems I have caught a new one" Misty replied while pointing to the pokeballs. "Not likely Misty, I reeled in that Finizen fair and square" Ash shot back, which began to get more heated "Well all is fair in love and war as they said" Misty argued while they both shot sparks at each other.
"Oh I hope this doesn't devolve into flying fists" Zeke muttered as he recalled his Fidough and Azumarill. "Well, it seems there's only one way to settle this" Ash said "Agreed" Misty added.
Scene cut
Ash and Misty were now on either side of the beach, ready to engage a battle to see who gets to keep the newly caught Finizen. "Prepare to lose Ash, me and Politoed are going to win ourselves a new water type like we did with Clauncher" Misty taunted as her Politoed did the same. "Believe me Misty, we have been training hard for any possibility, and that includes you" Ash threw a pokeball into the air, which released a red crawdad Pokemon with a star on its head.
"Craw craw crawdaunt"
The newly revealed Crawdaunt snapped his claws at Politoed as a means of intimidation. "What kind of Pokemon is that?" Carla asked while pulling out her Rotom Phone.
Crawdaunt: The rogue pokemon, a water and dark type
They are incredibly territorial, and can live in the most stagnant of waters.
"Wow, that guy looks very mean" Gus remarked as Crawdaunt was busy staring down the foe.
"Battle, begin!" Nemona shouted.
"We'll start off, Politoed, use Hidden Power!" Misty shouted.
Politoed formed a green ball of energy in his hands and threw it at Crawdaunt, but Crawdaunt was ready.
"Send it back with Double Hit!" Ash commanded, with Crawdaunt's claws clowing white, and it then deflected the Hidden Power into the nearby shore. "Well that won't work, get up close with Double Slap!" Misty ordered, and Politoed rushed forward with hi hands white.
"Let him get in close Crawdaunt" Ash said with the rogue Pokemon replying with a firm "Daunt!" When Politoed eventually reached his target, he began slapping away at Crawdaunt, or rather his claws.
Crawdaunt was using his claws to block Politoed's Double Slap attack to minimize the damage, and that was when Ash made his move. "Now, grab him with Metal Claw!" Crawdaunt then used one of his claws, which was now glowing silver, to grab a hold of one of Politoed's arms, making him cringe in pain.
"Oh no!" Misty shouted "Quick, Politoed, make him let go with Ice Punch!" Using his free hand, Politoed formed a fist of ice and slugged Crawdaunt with it, making him let go.
"Don't let him get away, use Aqua Jet!" Ash ordered, Crawdaunt was then surrounded by water and dashed towards Politoed. "Quick, use Protect!" Misty ordered, and Politoed managed to raise a protective barrier before Aqua Jet hits, but this only closed the distance between the two fighters.
As the battle went on, Finizen ended up coming out of its pokeball, and it began to look around the shore, where it then saw a nearby cliffside. Amazed by how large it is, he 'swam' towards it.
"Zen, finizen"
On top of the cliff was a precariously placed boulder on top, and the dolphin thought it would be fun to fire a Water Gun attack at it. When Gus turned around however, he saw that the boulder was about to flatten Finizen, and he panicked. "Finizen is about to be crushed!" This caused Ash and Misty to stop their battle where they saw the boulder now falling down.
Finizen panicked as all it could do was brace for the inevitable crash.
But it didn't come.
"Fini?"
Looking up, he saw Crawdaunt lifting the boulder with his mighty claws before hurling it into the ocean, causing a bunch of Tynamo to panic and scatter nearby. "Nice work Crawdaunt" Ash praised his rogue Pokemon, whom beamed brightly as his trainer. "Craw craw" Meanwhile, Finizen was marvelling at how strong Crawdaunt was, and how heroic he was in spite of his dark typing.
"It's a real shame our battle was interrupted, now we won't be able to know who wins the Finizen" Vanny lamented "I think that won't be necessary" Arven stated as Finizen was playing with Crawdaunt. "As much as I hate to admit it, Ash won Finizen by saving it" Misty stated while Politoed muttered at how he never got to finish the battle.
"If you say that" Ash started before kneeling down to Finizen "Would you like to join me? You can be as strong as Crawdaunt here." The answer was an immediate "Zen!" of approval, and Ash brought out a Lure Ball.
"Well then, pokeball go!"
Finizen was sucked into the Lure Ball and was caught instantly. "Alright, I caught a Finizen!" Ash shouted with Pikachu and Crawdaunt behind him.
Sunset was now coming, and Misty was admiring Carla's Pokemon. "Wow, Dondozo Veluza and Wiglett are so cool!" "I can tell you like these guys a lot, right?"
"Doooozooooo"
"Luza luza"
"Wiglett wig wiglett wig"
"Hey, what about my Quaxly, he's cool" Arven shouted almost indignantly, with Quaxly repeating him. "Oh, yeah, sorry about that" Misty sweat dropped.
Eventually, Misty left the group, but not before saying goodbye to Ash and Crawdaunt. Ash then looked back to see Finizen playing with Crawdaunt again, it was clear that Finizen now looks up to Crawdaunt.
"I guess it just goes to show that you should never judge a Pokemon based on their type" Ash humored "Pikachu." Ash then scanned his Finizen for the moves it may know, it already knew Supersonic and Water Gun, but it also knows Astonish and Aqua Jet, which will come in rather handy.

Gus catches Shellder, Carla catches Wiglett, Ash catches Finizen, Ash's Corphish is revealed to have evolved into a Crawdaunt
