While the non-humans stayed to fight Mariverde, Padme and Anakin managed to get Carmine and the Mitchells to safety across town.
Everyone breathed heavily, though relieved they were finally away from the ugly part of tonight's race against time.
Padme and Anakin explained to Caroline and the Mitchells everything that happened with the spell, the kiss, everything they went through and why now they were horses.
"I know you used to say you'd kiss a frog if you could marry a prince, but would you kiss a horse?" Padme asked.
"If I kiss Anakin," said Caroline to clarify. "You'll both turn human again?"
"Yes, and I'll see to it that my parents reward you for it. But I only ask one other thing in return."
"I'm already with your brother." Caroline said.
"Not that!" Anakin quickly shook his head. "You must give Padme the rest of the money she requires for her restaurant. I will work to pay it all back to you. And I'm willing to do so for the sake of seeing Padme's dream come true. I could have all the valuables in the world, and all of would mean nothing, if it meant I was without her. She's what I really need. She's my everything."
It warmed Caroline's heart to see that this prince cared so deeply for Padme. She felt sure of what she wanted her whole life, but she knew what she really needed, and all she wanted was for her best friend, who'd been like a sister to her all her life, to have everything she needed, and if her kissing a horse would make it happen, she was willing to do it.
But, just as Caroline was about to kiss Anakin.
BONG! BONG! BONG!
The clock struck midnight.
"Oh no! It's midnight!" Anakin said.
"It might not be too late." Caroline said. She kissed Anakin. Nothing happened.
Caroline tried again. Nothing happened.
Padme and Anakin both looked saddened as it was too late. It seemed they were doomed to remain horses forever.
Padme nuzzled Anakin, both of them sad that they probably wouldn't be human again.
But, Padme told Anakin, "I'd rather be a horse with you than be human without you. I love you, Ani."
"I love you too, Padme."
Mariverde and her shadow monsters were finally defeated, and banished forever. And sometime in the forest, underneath an archway of flowers, Master Yoda performed a ceremony between Anakin and Padme. Caroline and her family came of course, and so did Carmine.
Padme wore a crown of beautiful flowers and a veil hand woven from beautiful silk, and Anakin had a ribbon tied around his neck like a bowtie.
"I now pronounce you stallion and wife." said Yoda.
Anakin and Padme looked at each other with love in their eyes, and together they leaned in and shared a passionate kiss.
And then, that was when something magical began to happen!
Lots of flower petals began to surround the couple as they kissed, and they were slowly lifted off the ground as more of the magic surrounded them.
People had to cover their eyes as a bright light flashed, but as it faded away, to everyone's great surprise, Padme and Anakin reappeared, and they were human again.
Padme and Anakin slowly pulled away from each other, and they gasped when they looked at each other and saw they were humans again. Not only that, but now Anakin was all dressed up in a fancy green and black suit, and Padme was now in a beautiful white and green dress with decorations resembling lily pads and lotus flowers.
"What did I tell you?" smiled Indira. "Kissing a princess breaks the spell."
That was when realization hit the newlyweds.
"Once you became my wife..." Anakin said, looking at Padme. "That made you-"
"A princess." Padme smiled. "You just kissed yourself a princess."
Anakin smiled with love and said, "And I'm about to do it again."
And he did!
Soon, they were married again at a real wedding ceremony at the local church, this time with all their family and friends there.
It was the most spectacular royal wedding everyone had ever seen. And Carmine finally got to give his promise ring to Caroline.
Soon, Padme came to claim the sugar mill. At first, the Harden brothers were ready to reject the money, but thanks to a little intimidation from their non-human friends, Padme was given the key.
Anakin and Padme got right to work on constructing the building with some help from their friends.
And before they knew it, Padme's Palace was officially open for business.
A few years went by, and so many dreams came true.
Padme's restaurant was a huge success, Caroline and Carmine got married, and Padme eventually got herself elected the new mayor of New Starlanes, and she used her new power to declare the segregation of humans and non-humans officially outlawed, and had the bayou wall knocked down. Now humans and non-humans alike once again lived in harmony together.
Jar Jar could play in the jazz band at Padme's restaurant, all species could roam freely and get their dream jobs, and Caroline had her Prince Charming after all. And Padme and Anakin were even blessed with a baby girl of their own.
Everyone was having so much fun dancing and laughing, and celebrating proof that dreams could come true.
Padme: In the south land
There's a city
Way down on the river
Where the women are very pretty
And all the men deliver
Padme came to her mother and sister at one of the tables and shared a big hug with them. Darren also shared a dance with his wife and their two daughters, and Jobal was so happy when she got to hold her newest granddaughter in her arms.
We got music
It's always playin
Start in the day time
And go all through the night
And when you hear that music playing
Hear what I'm sayin
Make you feel alright
Anakin served some wonderful food to his parents and sister and joined his wife in a dance. He'd grown so much since their marriage. He was more responsible, more confident in his self-control, and most of all, he was happier than he'd ever been.
Grab somebody
Come on down
Bring a paint brush
We're painting the town
There's some sweetness goin around
Anakin and Padme found some time alone on the roof of their restaurant, and they shared another passionate kiss.
Dreams do come true in New Starlanes
"And they all lived happily ever after."
Leia and Luke cooed happily and clapped their little hands cutely as their grandfather finished the story.
"I think the twins enjoyed the story." Gabby chuckled.
