Hello everybody! What do you guys think of my story so far? Do you like it? Please tell me!
CHAPTER 6
Sam called the Massachusetts achieves the minute she got back home. Mikey had been right. Once she mentioned who she was, why she was calling and Mikey's name they agreed to send over a copy of the letters to her apartment address here in Amity Park. They said it would take about two days and she was so excited, she couldn't wait! She gathered her files and took another shower getting ready properly. Finally a few hours later after going through everything along with the plumber's visit she set out once more to the archives. As she headed outside she saw her rental car and she ended up smacking her forehead. How could she have forgotten!? The front of the car was caved in from her encounter with Phantom last night. Apparently she could still drive it though. She sighed. She needed to go see Tucker about getting a new car.
Sam drove to the town hall and pulled into a parking spot. First she would go to Mikey's then to Tucker for a new car. She got out and as she rounded the corner to the building she froze seeing many people standing around and an ambulance. She watched in horror as two EMTs started walking out of the archives building with none other than Mikey on the stretcher being carried away.
Sam raced up to them, "Mikey!" She called having everyone look to her.
Mikey seemed to see her too and his terrified eyes widened, "Run Sam!" He cried startling everyone. "You leave her alone!" He shouted turning away from her and glaring at nothing. "No! No! Sam run away! He's coming for you! Run!" Mikey was loaded into the ambulance and they raced away.
Sam stared after the ambulance in horror at the disturbing scene. She had just seen him! What had happened to him?! And what was he rambling on about? Who was coming for her? Why did she have to run away? She stood there for a few seconds too shocked and she would admit scared, to move. As the crowd cleared away she saw Tucker walk up to her looking sad and worried. Sam made no move to avoid him as she just continued to stare off after the long gone ambulance.
Tucker stood by her side for a moment silently offering his support before he sighed and looked to her, "Sam." He said softly causing her to turn and look at him. "I know you don't believe me, but please." He begged looking so genuine Sam knew he was telling the truth, "Please at least go talk to a family called the Fentons. They'll be able to shed more light on what has happened and be able to help keep you safe, considering what has happened to you and now Mikey." Sam felt numb as she nodded. Was this somehow her fault? "I'll get you their address."
Sam shook her head, "No." She said softly. "I already have it. Thank you." Tucker looked only slightly surprised that she already had it, but only slightly. He knew Sam was a woman who got things done.
"Are you okay to drive?" He asked kindly. "Do you need me to drop you off there?
Sam took a deep breath and shook her head, "No, thank you. I can do it."
Tucker nodded, "You're welcome. Just tell them I sent you because you saw Phantom. Tell them what happened last night and here with Mikey. They'll understand." He placed a hand on her shoulder and offered her a reassuring smile, "Good luck Sam."
Sam nodded, handed him the files, and got back into her car and left. She found Nightingale Street relatively quickly as it was close to the park something she wasn't finding all that surprising anymore. As she pulled down the street she realized exactly what Mikey had been talking about. Above a large building was a huge sign and she actually had no idea what the thing was that was on top of the building only that it was huge and looked expensive. The sign read 'Fenton Works'. Parking in front of the house, and she used that name lightly, Sam got out and walked to the door.
The front door was answered by a woman who looked only a few years older than herself with beautiful long red hair held back by a teal headband. Her eyes were bluish-green and she wore a back top with the same teal colored capris pants. "Can I help you?" she asked kindly.
Sam nodded, "My name is Samantha Manson and Tucker sent me over." She paused before saying, "I've seen Phantom."
The woman's eyes widened at the name and she quickly ushered her inside. "Come have a seat." She said leading her over to a couch in the front room. Sam took the seat gratefully. "Alright, first things first, my name is Jasmine Fenton, but you can just call me Jazz. Would you like anything to drink?"
"Some water would be nice." Sam said gently.
Jazz nodded "Okay I'll be right back." She then left heading into the kitchen Sam could see across from the living room she was in. In front of the door there was a staircase that led up to where she assumed was the rest of the house. As Jazz came back with the water two other people came in with her. "Samantha, I'd like you to meet my parents. Jack and Maddie Fenton." She said gesturing to them in turn. Maddie was a petite woman with short cropped red hair. She wore a blue hazmat suite and had blue-green eyes like Jazz. Jack on the other hand was a very large person. Not fat per say just large. He was wearing an orange hazmat suit and had blue eyes with graying black hair.
Sam stood and shook their hands smiling at them, "It's nice to meet all of you, but please call me Sam." They nodded and all took a seat and Jazz handed Sam the water.
Sam took a drink before Jazz spoke, "Okay Sam why don't you tell us what happened." Sam nodded and told them about what had happened last night as well as this afternoon and what had happened with Mikey. When she was done she had every Fenton looking at her worriedly. It was a little while before someone spoke and that someone was Jazz. "Are you alright, Sam?" She asked gently.
Sam looked at her and thought about the question. She was fine physically, but mentally she was all over the place. She was worried about Mikey, she was worried about her job, she was worried about this stupid town, and she was now worried about her safety and this crazy person that's after her. She looked at Fentons tiredly, "I just want to know the truth." She finally said.
All three of them nodded in understanding. "That makes sense, honey." Maddie said smiling at her reassuringly. "But don't worry. You're safe here. We installed a ghost shield over the house. No ghost can get in." Sam just nodded. "It is very worrisome about what has happened to you. Usually the prince, Phantom as he is called, doesn't speak. In fact no one has hardly ever heard his voice, but when he does it's only to order a punishment to someone. People who have seen him have gone missing before. Usually they turn up in a few days, but they're always terrified and ruffed up. Nobody knows what happens to them. They themselves don't remember." Maddie went on. "He really just stays on the sidelines and lets all the other ghosts under his command deal with everything. So why he has taken a sudden liking to you is worrying and very interesting."
Jack nodded agreeing with his wife, "Yeah, not to mean any offence, but he's never shown this much interest in anything before let alone a person. What is so special about you, I wonder."
"I know what you mean." Sam said knowing he wasn't trying to insult her. "I am however curious, why is everyone calling him a prince? What exactly is he prince of?"
"La Eterna Regno." Jazz answered simply, "Or translated to English, The Eternal Realm or Eterna for short. The ghosts use a language called Esperanto. They don't use it so often anymore they mostly just speak English, but there are some ghosts who don't so it's good to know both." Sam nodded absorbing the information as Jazz continued. "As far as the whole story goes, it's kind of long."
"I've got time." Sam said simply.
Jazz nodded and began. "Well to start out, my family and I are ghost hunters. We protect the city and citizens as best we can with our ghost fighting equipment. The Fentons have been fighting off ghosts for centuries. Ever since John Fenton Nightingale first came here."
"That's why he moved here? Because of ghosts?" Sam asked happy to finally have an answer.
Jazz nodded. "Yeah, but the story starts long before that. Now before we get going. I want you to know that ghosts we refer to are not the spirits of dead humans."
"They're not?" Sam asked a little confused.
Jazz shook her head. "No we just call them that because they have so many similarities to the ghosts we know of. These creatures are something else entirely. From a completely different dimension. As best we can tell, they live, they die. They have abilities we don't and might live a bit longer than humans, but they can be killed."
"Oh." Sam said a little lamely. She was trying her best to follow everything, but a lot of it was just going in one ear and out the other.
Jazz nodded and continued with her story. "A long time ago the ghosts and people lived in peace, believe it or not they didn't call themselves Ghosts. That was a name we gave them. They actually called themselves; Infaninoj de Paco. It translates to Creatures of Peace. Again a bit hard to believe, but it's true." Sam nodded understanding. "Then a ghost called Pariah Dark came out of nowhere and threw everything into chaos. The 15th century wasn't known as the dark ages for nothing." She added with a joking smile before going on. "He took over the Ghost Zone and the human world with the help of the ancient ghost artifacts called the Ring of Rage, and the Crown of Fire. He proclaimed himself the new Ghost King overthrowing the previous one. He remained a tyrant for hundreds of years before a band of ghosts called the Ancients managed to trap him with the help of his son; Plasmius."
"They couldn't defeat him because he was too strong, but they did manage to get the ring and crown away from him and trap him in the Sarcophagus of Forever Sleep. However as soon as he was defeated, Plasmius turned on everyone and became the new tyrannical king. The Ancients were too weak to fight him after using their strength on Pariah and they had no way to trap him, but they did have enough strength to close the portals to our dimension saving us. We've been separated ever since. However John Fenton Nightingale studied all of this and knew Plasmius would never rest until the human world was his again. John Fenton Nightingale started seeing signs of the King trying to break into our world again. That's why he left Massachusetts. He followed the spectral energy right here to Amity Park and dedicated his life to keeping it at bay. And it worked. He passed down his knowledge to his family and his journal but it burned so we only have what we remember. The Ancients' spell was weakening quickly and by 1912 Plasmius was able to enter our world again."
"1912?" Sam asked as realization came, "That was-"
"The year of the fire?" Jazz finished with a knowing smile. "I know. Plasmius doesn't want anyone to know about his plans so he burned it all. He's smart. He paid attention to how we were growing and evolving and knew that we would put up a fight and it wouldn't be that easy for him. For a long time they've only been able to leave the Ghost Zone from 12 to 3 AM when the space between dimensions is at its weakest, but that is quickly changing."
"The curfew." Sam guessed.
Jazz nodded. "Yep. To keep people safe. Ghosts might have started out nice, but they don't care about humans anymore. The park is the weakest point where our two worlds meet."
"Which is why all the crazy things are happening there." Sam concluded, her readings and findings finally making sense now that she was hearing all of it and choosing to believe it.
"Bingo." Jack said a smile on his face. "The Prince or Phantom whichever, is generally leading the other ghosts and making sure everyone is doing as their told."
Sam sat back in the couch amazed at what she had been told. This would answer a bunch of her questions save for one. "So if ghosts don't care, why did the prince stop Skullker from killing me last night?"
Maddie shook her head, "We have no idea and that is what makes us so worried. Don't get us wrong we are very happy you survived, but why would he allow it? What does he have planned for you?" She asked knowing she wasn't going to get an answer. However her question made Sam suddenly want to hide in a hole. Planned for her? Was that really true? Was he planning something with her? And if so, what? Maddie then stood, "I'll be right back. I believe we have something that would help."
As Maddie left, Jazz turned back to her, "Sam I'm sorry to say this, but it would be best if you left."
Sam blinked, "What do you mean?"
"I mean leave town. Get out of the state. Get as far away from here as you possibly can." Jazz clarified undeterred.
"Why?" Sam asked confused.
"If Phantom wants anything to do with you, it can't be good." Jack answered. "Things like what happened with Mikey are not uncommon when hearing about Phantom. Anyone who has ever come in contact with him has ended up hurt or seriously injured. Whatever he wants with you can't be good. For your safety you should just leave."
Sam took a moment to think about that. She had no desire to be any ghosts' interest and she very much enjoyed the idea of flying below the radar. If leaving meant she would be safe and these people who apparently were the experts on the matter said she needed to get the heck out of dodge, she probably should listen to them. Still… "What about you?" She found herself asking.
Jazz and Jack offered her a reassuring smile, "Don't worry about us." Jack said.
Jazz nodded, "We know how to handle ourselves. We've been doing this for a long time and know what to do. Besides someone needs to stay and protect the town." Sam stared at them a little humbled and amazed at their bravery. She found that she very much liked these Fentons.
It was then Maddie returned holding several items in her hands. She placed them all down on the coffee table and handed her a pair of what looked like earrings or wireless ear buds. "Here, dear." She said, "These are called the Fenton Phones. They help filter out ghost noise so that you can communicate with others. If you ever need to contact us you can use these. Also if you ever hear music that makes you feel sleepy or different from yourself, put them on at once. There is a ghost called Ember that uses music to control people. Always have these with you." Sam nodded and took the phones putting them in her leather jacket pocket. Maddie then handed her a little device that looked like a green bracelet and put it on her wrist. "This is the Fenton Wrist Ray. It shoots out a concentrated beam of ecto energy and can harm a ghost if needed. It's more of a distraction or a weapon that would stun a weaker ghost, but at least it is some protection." Sam nodded as she listened to how to use it. Finally Maddie lifted up a techno belt that had a lock for a key where the buckle would be. "This is called the Spector Deflector. Put it on dear." Sam did as she was told and locked the belt. "When you wear it, it activates and no ghost can touch you with it on. It only comes off with this key." Maddie said handing her the green key. Sam took it and placed in her jacket pocket with the phones. Maddie smiled at her, "That should keep you safe until you head out."
Sam didn't really want to leave, but she realized it would probably be better if she did. She didn't want to create more trouble by staying and… what had happened to Mikey. She didn't want that to happen to anyone else.
"Alright." She finally said. "I have to go back to my apartment to pack."
Jazz nodded, "That's fine, but just pack the essentials." They then stood and headed to the door.
"It was lovely to meet you Sam." Maddie said as she and Jack shook hands with her one more time.
"Please let us know if you need anything else." Jack added.
Sam smiled at them, "Will do and thank you." They nodded and Jazz opened the door for her and they stepped out onto the porch as Jack and Maddie headed back into the house.
"I can send the rest of your things through the mail later if you would like." Jazz offered.
Sam nodded at her and smiled, "Yes I would appreciate that." Jazz then walked her to her car and they both stared at the front end. Caved in slightly, damaged paint, and you could see her engine from the bent hood.
"Want a ride to the airport?" Jazz asked simply.
"Yes please." Sam said somewhat embarrassed. She forgot about asking Tucker for a new one.
"I can give you a ride to your place if you would like." Jazz offered. Sam nodded and they headed towards the back of the house where she saw a silver compact parked. "I can have a tow truck pick up your car tomorrow. Does it belong to you?"
Sam shook her head, "No, it belongs to the local rental place."
"Good."
Sam gave her a look, "What do you mean by good?"
"Here in Amity Park we have Ghost attack insurance." Jazz told her as if she was discussing the weather.
"Okay. That's good, I suppose." Sam answered as Jazz went back in to her house to get her keys. She came back quickly enough and they got into the car and started off.
They arrived back at Sam's place soon enough and Sam turned back to Jazz. "Thank you for all your help, Jazz. You and your family really don't have to do all of this."
Jazz smiled at her and shook her head, "Yes we do. It's our job and we Fentons believe in helping people. That's why I chose to become a psychoanalysis."
"Wow. Good for you." Sam said impressed. "And again thank you."
"You're welcome Sam. I would rather you be safe than anything happen to you." Jazz told her.
Sam smiled at her, "Thanks. I'll give you a call when I'm ready tomorrow."
Jazz nodded, "When do you think you'll be ready?"
Sam sighed, "I'll probably be good around 10, but…" She turned and looked at the red head beside her, "Do you think we could stop by the hospital before we go? I want to check on Mikey."
Jazz sighed as well, "I really think we should leave as soon as possible Sam however, I can call the hospital tonight and get the skinny for you. They'll let me know. If it really was a ghost attack they'll know and allow me the information."
Sam really wanted to see him in person, but she understood how serious this was so she just nodded. "Alright. I'll see you tomorrow Jazz."
Jazz nodded and smiled at her, "See you."
