Chapter 5: Day of the Dino Part 2

School went on like normal the next day. All Kate could think about was those tyranodrons and Mesagog or whatever he was. She wanted to help in some way, but how could she? She was no one special. She was just your average woman in a normal city. Then her mind wandered off to Tommy Oliver, her former colleague, well now he was her current colleague. Her students were currently reading some Chaucer readings in their English books silently and working on assignments. She was twirling her pen against the paper she had on her desk. It was just a piece of paper with some words on it that would make good rhymes for poetry.

Tommy said he would fill them in after school, and that is what she was most certainty looking forward to most.

Suddenly, there was a rumble that shook the whole building of her classroom. The students screamed and Kate gripped onto her desk. She's heard of Californian earthquakes before maybe this was one of them. Her pen dropped and fell to the floor.

"Ok, students, don't panic!" she cried to them.

The skies turned dark and Kate somehow knew this was not your average earthquake.

"Everyone under your seats now!" she yelled.

Everyone got underneath their seats and she ran over towards the window, looking outside to see what was going on.

"Students remain calm, the mayor has called a state of emergency. Please report to the front of the school for early dismissal. Remain calm," the overcom said.

"Okay everyone out, let's go guys!" Kate said, ushering her students to safety. "Follow your peers, I'll be right back."

She grabbed her tote bag and ran across the hall to the science lab where Tommy would be.

"Hey, you okay?" she asked him.

"Yeah, you?"

She nodded. "What's going on?"

"Dr. O, now would be a good time to have that little chat," Kira said.

"We're out of time. If Mesagog revived the bio zords we gotta act fast," Tommy said. "Come with me."

"So these mechanical dino zords, they your friends?" Kira asked.

"Bio zords," Tommy corrected her as they entered his downstairs lab. "Fusion power replicants. Using actual dino DNA for their neuro functions."

"Let me guess, you helped build them," Ethan said.

"I'm afraid so," Tommy said. "Right now, we, I mean you, need have to tame them."

"I'll be the elephants if it's all the same to you," Ethan said and started walking away.

"What's that mean?"

"Be back later."

"Ethan, wait,"

Ethan turned to face him.

"You can do this. And you won't have to do it alone. I found the dino gems. They've been waiting in case I needed to harness their powers," Tommy explained.

"Into what?" Kira asked.

Tommy walked over to a metal box that when he opened it, it contained three items in different colors of red, yellow, and blue.

"Dino morphers," Tommy said. "Use these to become Power Rangers."

Kate widened her eyes. She's heard of the Power Rangers before, who hasn't? But never in her wildest did she ever think she'd see how it all worked.

"I gotta sit down," Ethan said, lowering to sit.

"Breathe," Conner said to him, helping him.

"We can't be Power Rangers," Kira said. "Aren't they fly or supposed to have super power strength, stuff like that?"

"You do," Tommy said.

"Oh yeah, I forgot," Kira said.

"Your gems are from the asteroid that crashed into Earth millions of years ago wiping out the entire dinosaur population. When I found them, I recognized their power and hid them so they wouldn't fall into the wrong hands," Tommy explained.

"How do you know these are in the right hands?" Conner asked.

"The gems are yours. They didn't choose them, they chose you," Tommy said and walked over to the computer.

"Can't they unchoose us?" Kira asked.

"They've already bonded with your DNA. That's what triggered your powers."

"If they've already bonded with us, how come Meagog and those creeps are still after them?" Ethan asked.

"The only way these powers can get taken away, is if they are destroyed," Tommy replied.

"For future reference, that's not a great selling point," Ethan said.

"Look, all I know is I don't remember asking to be a super hero," Conner said.

"The gems wouldn't have bonded to you if you didn't have something inside you that can hold your power," Tommy said walking in between them. He pushed the box forward. "Please."

They picked them up and looked at them.

"So now what? Do we need some sort of secret password or command?" Ethan asked.

"All you have to say is dino thunder power up and you will be transformed," Tommy said. "You'll know what to do."

"Dino thunder. What did you come up with that?" Conner asked Ethan.

"I kinda like it," he said.

"You would," Conner said.

"I know you three are from different worlds. I get it. But you're going to have to work together or this will never happen. This won't be easy. Nobody knows it better than I do. But you're going to have to believe in yourselves. Cause I believe in you."

"Really?" Conner asked.

"Really," Tommy said.

"So, speaking from experience?" Kate asked as they neared off to a corner of the lab.

Tommy smirked at her. "You could say that. So listen, I'd like you to stay here. You are not to get in harms way of the dino zords okay? It's far too dangerous."

"Don't have to tell me twice. Just be careful, okay?" Kate asked. "Promise?"

"I promise," Tommy said and they took off, leaving Kate in the lab.

They finally came back from the fight in the city. They seemed pretty happy with themselves.

"Hey, how'd it go?" Kate asked.

"Great! We kicked their butts!" Ethan exclaimed.

"Yeah, they did good," Tommy said. "Hang on, before you go, I've got something for the three of you."

He pulled out another box and opened it up that had three silver bracelets inside of it.

"Keep these bracelets with you at all times. They'll access your morphers when you need them," Tommy explained. "And you can use these to communicate with me and Kate. And with each other." They all took one out.

"Dr. O, I know you're real smart and a science teacher and everything, but this is, well, I mean, how did you…." Kira stumbled to say.

"I'll fill you in, in time," Tommy said.

"In time? You think Mesagog is going to stick around for awhile?" Ethan asked.

"Unfortunately, they always do." Tommy said.

"They?" Conner asked.

"I know this is a lot to take in," Tommy continued.

"That's for sure," Ethan said.

"Your lives just changed in ways you probably couldn't have imagined. As long as you work together, and remember you are a team, no one can defeat you. No one," Tommy said.

Kate glanced at Tommy and he glanced back at her. What was she supposed to do now? Was she supposed to research again? Hopefully he'll explain her role in all of this.
