Chapter 6: Wave Goodbye Part 1

"So, nice day out for a hike in the woods," Kate said in the midst of silence between her and Tommy. "Better than the island, I gotta say."

Tommy chuckled at her. "We're looking for something."

"Anything in particular?"

"Yes, eggs, actually."

"Please don't make me hungry," Kate said, following him after stepping on a couple of twigs under her boots. It was a beautiful day after school. A hike in the woods was not something she had in mind for a date but it sure was better than the island thing.

Tommy chuckled again. "No, eggs for the new Power Rangers. They'll be hatching soon, and I don't want them to get into the wrong hands."

"Like that mega-whatever dude, right?"

"Exactly," he said.

"So, I've gotta ask you. What's my role in all of this?" Kate asked.

"Well, I was hoping you could come back as my research assistant. I've got a tech assistant handy already, her name's Haley, but I could use a research partner in all things Power Rangers if you want the job. I promise, no explosions or islands or large bodies of water present."

"Isn't Mega-whatever's fortress on an island?" Kate asked.

"Yeah, but there's no reason we should go there." Tommy said. "If you don't want-"

"No, no I'll do it. I'll be your research partner and I'd like to meet Haley," Kate said. "She sounds cool."

"Great. It's settled. Aha, there they are!" Tommy cried at the sight of glowing eggs in red, yellow, and blue nestled in a spot off to the side. "All right, I'll call Ethan to help."

Kate widened her eyes. "They're gorgeous."

"Aren't they?"

Kate nodded and knelt down beside Tommy to study them.

"Hey Ethan, can you meet me outside Riverside Rd?"

"Yeah, sure, what's up?"

"Just be there, and I'll fill you in."

"After the island exploded, some of my experiments were scattered all throughout this area," Tommy explained once Ethan got here. "There."

"What are they?" Ethan asked.

"Eggs," Tommy replied.

"No it's cool Dr. O, I just had lunch a couple hours ago," Ethan said.

Kate smiled and laughed.

Tommy let out a chuckle. "No, we're not gonna eat them. We're gonna hatch them. Then you're gonna ride them."

"Maybe it's got all this quiet out here that's got me hearing things, but I thought you just said we're gonna ride these," Ethan said with uncertainty.

"I did. Trust me Ethan, when these things are ready, they're going to be a big help to us," Tommy said.

"Right, whatever you say," Ethan said.

Tommy picked one up and put it in his black backpack. Ethan and Kate helped him carefully put the other two in. Then suddenly a dark shadow moved in the forest. They gasped and looked up to see where it went.

"You saw that right?" Ethan asked.

They got up from the ground.

"Protect the eggs no matter what."

"Who would want to hurt them?" Ethan asked.

"I would," a newcomer said and came in to lean against the tree. She was dressed in black leather with dark makeup on. Kate frowned at her.

"And I. I'm starting to have my doubts about your intelligence Dr. Oliver," Zeltrax said. More tyranodrones followed behind them.

"Here, I can take them while you two handle them," Kate suggested.

"Good idea," Tommy handed her the backpack. She strung it over her shoulder.

"Attack!"

"Hey!" Kate cried as one of the tyranodrones tried to take the backpack away from her. Tommy jumped up and twirled a high kick in the air, kicking him to the ground so she could get away.

"Run!" Tommy yelled at her. She nodded and ran as fast as she could to get away from the tyranodrones. "Ethan! Call the others!"

"Guys! We could use some dino help out here!"

A tyranodrone caught onto Kate, preventing her from leaving the clearing. She kicked him backwards to the ground and saw two more coming after her. Tommy ran at them and tried to get them away from her.

Conner and Kira made it to the team. Ethan and the team had morphed into Power Rangers and were fighting the tyranodrones with their weapons.

Kate and Tommy were back to back fighting the tyranodrones that had formed a circle around them.

Then they were fighting Elsa and Zeltrax together until the Power Rangers came to their side.

"You really like these odds?" Ethan asked.

"We're not through with you Power Rangers," Elsa promised. Kate hugged the bag to her chest.

"Or you Dr. Oliver," Zeltrax said.

Elsa raised her sword and an invisaportal opened up in the sky. They fled the scene leaving the Power Rangers alone.

"They're a crazy couple," Kira said once they disappeared.

"Yeah. We better get these to my place," Tommy said as Kate handed the backpack back to him.

"What are they?" Kira asked.

"We're going to ride them," Ethan said.

"Look, I have to go back to tryouts," Conner said. "Can you guys handle this?"

"Yeah, go ahead," Tommy said. "They can fill you in later."

"Thanks," Conner said before taking off.

"Good luck," Kate wished him.
