What you recognize I don't own, this is based off the TV series, mainly because I use the names in that show for the names of Robocop's wife and son. The EDC ends OCP, but not before Alex is turned into Robocop, the EDC offers Alex not only chance to regain his memories and thus live with his family but also offers him job with EDC, he accepts both offers, though either way his files are now under Cybertronian security. Plus whenever on duty he's referred to as Robocop, but everyone knows that his real name is Alex Murphy due to the fact that the EDC helped Alex regain his life via paperwork, expediting it slightly with the government so that he was legally alive once again. But they respected Alex's request to use the name that the OCP gave him whenever on duty in the field, if he was on base depending on how comfortable he was around them (minus the Cybertronians) he might allow someone to call him Alex. He also helped the Cybertronians with the legal aspect of adopting their human daughter when her birth parents died and gave the Cybertronians legal custody. Also going to partially involve both anime and live action movie Speed Racer, but only in regards to Interpol having a unit who works in the car racing world both on and off the season, though more during the racing season than during the off season. Also as always thoughts are in italics foreign and alien languages are in asterisks
Alex was enjoying a day off when all of a sudden an alert on his phone went off, and it was an alert that he had been trained never to ignore due to the significance of the alert and the fact that said alert had only been in existence for eight years, but when he actually looks at his phone he sees that he's not to immediately come to base
"Alex, what's wrong?"
"Something's happened and I'm on standby, EDC might need me more active later but this does mean we can't actually go out to the movies like planned unless the alert is canceled by then"
"We can watch a movie at home easily dad"
"Thanks Jimmy"
The family gets dinner, but would never make it to the living room to watch TV because the phone actually rang
"This is Robocop...I see...of course...right away...goodbye"
As soon as he hangs up he turns to his family who look at him both knowingly and understandingly
"Go"
"Sorry Nancy, Jimmy, but I promise we'll watch the movie another time"
"We understand dad, the EDC needs you more right now, just let us know what you can when you get home"
"Will do"
With that Robocop joins the search for the Cybertronians foster child and would ultimately be the one to find her in critical condition
"This is Robocop, I have found her"
"On our way"
Alex did what he could to help stabilize her and then let the medics take over. When he finally got home they could tell he was emotionally drained
"How bad?"
"The person I found might not even make it, and if they do...it's bad, and I mean real bad, they could potentially be permanently disabled but I don't know that for sure yet"
"When will we know?"
"It could be hours before we find out if they even survive the surgery that's needed to try and save their life, also, you're cleared for more information than most Jimmy, per the rules regarding EDC kids"
"But you want to wait a little bit first, understood dad"
The next two days weren't easy for Alex due to no word on the Cybertronians foster child but finally he was called to base in the middle of his shift and sent straight to Optimus Prime's office, which he knew was due to the fact that both Rodimus Prime and Galvatron were on Cybertron and an ally planet respectively and couldn't get back despite the fact that their daughter was in critical condition
"You wished to see me?"
"Yes, she's past the critical point where Ratchet wasn't sure if she would live...or die from her injuries"
"That's good to hear"
"However, there has been a...unique complication that only you can help with"
"How so?"
"Alex..." (Sighs) "Alex, we had to turn our daughter into a cyborg, though she looks mostly human still, we were wondering if you would be willing to help her adjust to her new life"
"I shall need to talk to my family about staying at the base for a bit"
"Understood"
When Alex's wife heard the story however she got a different idea
"Alex...if her parents allow it maybe...maybe instead of you living on base for a time she could instead live with us as she learns to adapt to her new life"
"I'll have to ask her family but that is a thought"
Ultimately the new cyborg would indeed be allowed to stay with Alex and his family while she adjusted to her new life as a cyborg
"I know this is personal but, what all has been done to you?"
"I have a microchip in my back that allows my brain to send signals to my legs so that I can walk, I also lost the vision center of my brain but that has been dealt with via another chip inside my brain and something that I don't know how to explain which lets me see, and though it doesn't look like it my left arm from just below the shoulder down is a prosthetic, which is controlled by a chip in the cuff that connects the prosthetic to my arm, both the back chip and the arm chip don't have anything connected to my brain though I have no idea how that works so I might have two chips in my brain that I wasn't told about or my family figured out a way of letting the chips know when my brain is sending signals to either my legs or my left arm"
"We shall work together to get you back to a form of normal again, and that includes stressing the chips as much as possible"
"I know, and Ratchet has actually sent me with specific tests that can be done out in public that will test these chips to the maximum that we can, there are unfortunately also tests that will have to be done on the EDC base for security reasons"
"I understand, but it will be my usual hours at the base correct?"
"Except for one, very, very mandatory night yes, and this is because of the fact that I think they gave me vision like yours and I want to test that at the base without my family knowing about it for reasons that I will get into later"
"Very well"
"By the way, this is Jimmy, he's a few years older than you and will help you if needed with certain things around the house"
"Oh Ashley, you were the one seriously hurt?"
"Yes Jimmy, I'm the reason your dad was called out on a day off"
"And as an EDC kid I'm cleared for more than what most people are, I'm cleared to know your injuries to try and help you heal as much as possible"
"Yes, you're also cleared to know why I'm living with you guys for the moment, what did your parents say about bringing me into the house?"
"That you were injured pretty badly and your parents felt it was safer for you to recover off base"
"Okay fair enough, that is part of the truth anyways but...the reason I'm really here is to learn from your dad, you see, in order to save my life my family agreed to make me into a cyborg, though I don't actually look like a cyborg like your father on the outside. But on the inside I really am a cyborg, and actually there's one aspect of my being a cyborg that the Cybertronians want me to ask you sir, do you want a normal looking body back?"
"No, Nancy and I talked about it back when the Cybertronians first helped me, and we agreed that if they should ever manage to figure out a way to give me back my body I wouldn't accept it and would remain the way I am primarily due to the armor that this body gives me, plus the helmet is a big help in my job too"
"I'll pass on the message then, but for now, I think it's time that we ate dinner and then get sleep, I'm still not allowed in school yet but the teachers are allowed to send me homework via EDC kids in my class"
"You want to remain on schedule as much as possible don't you?"
"Yes, it will make things easier when I do go back to class"
"Then let's get dinner started, it should be ready in about thirty minutes"
That night at dinner would be Ashley's first lesson on being a cyborg because she gripped the knife in her left hand too hard and the handle broke
"Sorry about that"
"It's okay, it will just take a little time is all, but you'll get there I promise"
"But until I gain the control needed I'm a danger to everyone around me, this is why I'm living here right now"
"Makes sense, dad can definitely help you with control of your strength, but Ashley, there's something that only I can help you with in regards to control, and that's control of your emotions, because I think that might be playing into how your arm strength is"
"And you've recently been in my shoes regarding my age"
"Exactly, plus I've had to adjust to being an EDC kid, and while I've managed I remember all the confusing and frustrating emotions I had during that adjustment period, and losing a limb is a big change and thus similar to moving"
"Then I'll accept whatever help you can give me in regards to emotional control"
"Thanks, for now though like you said it's time for sleep I guess"
The next few weeks weren't easy for Ashley, but slowly and surely she started adjusting to her new life as a cyborg, learning the limits of her new body in regards to what her arm could do when she controlled her emotions and when she didn't, plus just how far she could push the chips inside her body. She learned that she didn't have the same kind of vision like Robocop did, but that didn't mean her vision wasn't different, it turned out that her family had unintentionally made her vision sharper than before, but otherwise her vision was normal, though they were now in talks with her about contacts that would not only act like Alex's helmet, but would also allow her to zoom in on things from even further than what the helmet did, though the thermographics and the recording ability would essentially be the same as the helmet. She also found out that the powers she was born with, but didn't reveal themselves until she was five also affected her chips and prosthetic arm, if she used them for too long, or used too strong an attack she was temporarily blind, paralyzed and unable to move her left arm, and the time varied depending on how long she used her power or how strong her strong attack was
"Guess you're limited, and unless that limit increases with time you're stuck where you are Ashley"
"Guess so, but at least we discovered this in the safety of the base instead of finding this out in the field"
"True enough, now then before you truly leave are you confident in yourself?"
"Well...confident enough that I can control myself around normal people again anyways, but you and I both have the same worry about what might happen if we're not on Earth for whatever reason and our cyborg parts start having issues that don't have an easy fix, or at least not one without a Cybertronian facility nearby"
"Then I guess you're as ready as you'll ever be"
"Yeah, though I still worry about how this is going to affect my growth, how often I'll need an arm prosthetic since I'm not going to be done growing for years as I'm only eight years old, and..."
"And you're not sure how to adjust to that new life yet, I understand, but you're still as ready as you'll ever be since I've taught you everything I can think of in regards to being a cyborg"
"Yeah, all that's left is to live my life as much as possible within the restrictions I have"
"Which aren't as much as I would think"
"Not cyborg wise anyways, but age wise and family wise I do have restrictions that I need to follow"
"True enough, but in time those restrictions will easy probably"
"Yeah, probably"
"For now though it's time for you to go home and live your normal life"
"Yeah, thanks for allowing me to stay Mrs. Murphy"
"No problem Ashley, I understood that you needed training easily, and time to adapt, our family had to go through that same adjustment and I figured it was best to do it around someone who'd been through the same. I just wish your parents were here as well to have also allowed them to adapt"
"There are reasons that they're not here, and I'm afraid that those reasons are complicated and classified, even as a spouse of an EDC officer there are just certain things you can't know about my family, or me"
"She is right Nancy, neither you nor Jimmy are allowed to know how Ashley's family fits into everything unless you become EDC officers yourselves, though as an EDC kid you are cleared for more things than normal regarding her Jimmy"
"Including her special abilities, I know dad"
"Well since she lives on base I will take her back now"
"See you back home in a bit Alex, I'm glad they allowed you to go on break after her training was finished"
And so Alex takes Ashley home and lets her live her normal life. And she does, the next nine and a half years were relatively calm, with Ashley going to Cybertron once a year during summer and getting regular prosthetic upgrades until she was fully grown. Her powers had grown in time too, as had her limits as predicted, but everyone was always careful about making sure someone was close by in any fight she was forced to participate in just in case she had to push herself to the point of being blind, paralyzed and unable to move her left arm to defend herself since she had learned how to fight when blind, when paralyzed and when she was enduring both conditions at once, but always with both arms still able to be used. And then two days before her birthday Alex decided to talk to her in private about something he'd noticed since she had turned sixteen and had been invited to participate in a special race with all the other EDC kids legally old enough to drive a car. During the intervening years things had changed for Alex too, ever since he'd been freed from OCP the Cybertronians had been trying to give Alex the ability to use contractions once again but had always failed, but then when Ashley was thirteen years old she suffered a severe enough concussion that her speaking was altered for three months and that was the breakthrough that the Cybertronians had needed to help Alex regain that last bit of his old self that was greatly missed by his family
"Ashley I have a question that I don't know how you're going to respond, but that I feel I need to ask anyways"
"What is it Alex?"
"You're not joining the military or the EDC once you're officially of age are you?"
"No, I've decided to join Interpol, they've taken inspiration from the anime and live action movie of Speed Racer and have created a group dedicated drivers to stop crimes happening across the world during races. And to stop dirty racers since that's a thing as well. My first official race is what Interpol is calling the Casa Cristo of the real world, having taken that race name from the live action Speed Racer movie since this race is so dangerous even without crooked racers involved"
"If they allow it, I'll be your EDC contact person since I doubt they know about your connection to the Cybertronians, or if they do only the higher ups know about that connection"
"No one in Interpol knows"
"I see, still, what you said a moment ago concerns me, putting a rookie racer in such a dangerous race doesn't make sense as a debut"
"Oh trust me, they're not too happy about that either, unfortunately I'm their only option available racer wise to participate"
"The others didn't qualify did they?"
Ashley shakes her head though
"Worse, everyone else who's qualified are too injured to participate, they won't heal in time for the race, or if they are they won't be medically cleared"
"Isn't that the same thing?"
"Not quite, some of them will be up and walking, and even up to racing in time for the Casa Cristo, but you need medical clearance at least a full month ahead of that race and some of them will only be cleared two weeks beforehand at best"
"So it's not a case of wanting you to race as much as needing you to race"
"Exactly, everyone wishes I had more experience before I entered this race believe me, but there's no choice in the matter if Interpol is to have a racer involved in that race, and it's needed unfortunately"
"I guess so, does your family know about this yet?"
"No...I'm waiting until my birthday in two days"
"Your family's not going to be too happy with you you know, by the way how are you cleared considering..."
"Considering my cyborg status and the back chip?"
"Plus the brain chip"
"Interpol was surprised at that as well, but it turns out that racing officials are giving me a test run, if I can handle races well enough, and be okay in the event of a crash if that ever happens, then they'll start considering other racers with disabilities similar to mine the chance to compete, so long as they have something that will help them properly race. Like modified glasses or like me, a back chip that allows them to properly walk"
"I see, by the way how come your family doesn't know about your racing activities? I should say your training for racing since you have yet to officially debut"
"Simple, when I turned seventeen they decided that they would give me the GED test and if I passed I would basically be considered an emancipated minor in all but legal senses which means having as much control over my life as a legal adult except that they still have to sign paperwork regarding medical care and other things until I turn eighteen in two days. I took the test and passed with flying colors"
"So no curfew on the weekends and you don't have to immediately come home after school, wait...does the school know that technically speaking you've already graduated from high school?"
"They know alright, but they're keeping it a secret as much as possible per my wishes, but because I've graduated technically speaking I'm not actually in school as often as a normal high school student would be, three days are half days and then two days are no classes, the school has their excuses why I don't have those two days for schooling by the way down pat"
"I see, when you're legally an adult is when everything is coming out though isn't it?"
"Yes, I already told the school that once I officially turn eighteen I'll accept my diploma and leave school, even though it's in the middle of the semester"
"When exactly is this dangerous race anyways?"
"Two and a half months from now, the intervening time is going to be spent training and doing minor league races that don't attract enough attention to reveal that I'm officially a race car driver"
"How will the military handle your unique situation considering you're not officially joining them?"
"That I'm not sure of yet, but I think when I make the official announcement in two days they'll have to either scramble for a solution real quick or already have one made in case I had decided to choose a career not in line with the military"
"I see, how will your school handle this anyways? I mean, does your family even know that you passed your GED?"
"They do know about the GED being passed of course, but they also think I want to finish high school with my classmates instead of graduating so early, and to a degree they were right, I did want, and actually need that time of socialization still, but it's time that I move on"
"I see, and how is your school going to handle this?"
"After school on my eighteenth birthday a school official is supposed to come onto base anyways to discuss the progress of a few students who are being deliberately home schooled at the moment, before the official celebration of my birthday they'll gather all the high school students, home schooled or not and have pomp and circumstances playing and announce that I've graduated from high school and will give me my diploma at that time"
And so the next two days were nerve wracking for Ashley but finally it was her eighteenth birthday and her last day of school officially. She made it through the day well enough and drove the official to the base along with a couple of other EDC kids who were approved to ride with her for security reasons. And once there the official did their business and Sunstreaker offered to give them a ride home but they spoke up first
"Before I go there is one last piece of official business I have to complete first"
"What's that?"
"First gather all high school students in the main conference room"
"Very well"
Once everyone was gathered the official went to their phone and as soon as pomp and circumstances started playing everyone knew that something huge was happening with a student because that music was for one situation and one situation only in regards to having high school students gathered
"Ashley Kerenai, please step forth and accept what has rightfully been yours for a year now"
And so Ashley goes to the front of the room and accepts the diploma she'd essentially earned for a year now
"Congratulations Kerenai"
"Thanks"
Once the official was gone the celebration for Ashley's eighteenth birthday commenced and she was asked what she was planning to do with her life by both Captain Faireborn and the Secretary of Defense at the same time
(Sighs) "I'm officially joining Interpol tomorrow, and...I'm also going to debut in a race in two and a half months"
"Wait...how does that work?"
"Interpol took inspiration from the anime/live action movie Speed Racer, don't ask me how they thought of that because I have absolutely no idea, but they have agents who are race car drivers and then there are contacts within countries that help with crimes dealing with the racers or country that the races are raced in at any given time"
"I see, but are you even trained for Interpol?"
Ashley nods
"Yes, whenever I was doing race training I only did that for part of the day, the rest of the day was spent doing Interpol training, but these next two and a half months are purely race training"
"What for?"
"Interpol is calling this race the Casa Cristo of the real world"
"You're debuting in the world's most dangerous race?"
"Yes, no one likes it but there's also no other choice unfortunately"
"How come?"
"I'm the only one who's managed to qualify and will be cleared for the race by the time it starts. Everyone else will only just be cleared to race either afterwords or only two weeks before the race begins in two and a half months"
"And if you get injured in the meantime?"
"I won't, Interpol doesn't know it yet, but I'm using my powers to protect myself on top of the clothing protection"
"Will they ever find out about your powers?"
"If needed yes, but otherwise they will never find out from me"
"So what exactly are your plans since you no longer have school?"
"Prep for the race in two and a half months"
"Guess that makes sense, just be careful to not overdo it okay?"
"No problem"
And so Ashley trains for the next two and a half months for her debut while racing in very, very minor races to keep her skills intact and then that first race was what gave her a taste of just how dangerous criminals who used the racing world were with a diamond smuggling ring as part of her first case. And though she won the race and helped retrieve the diamonds the close calls had made her call her fellow cyborg a few times
(Sighs) "I don't know how you do it Alex, I mean...you're obviously a police officer who's not completely human anymore, but you have to worry about attacks that take you down. I also have to worry about that to a degree and not reveal I'm harder to hurt or kill since even my powers have limits and I can't use them constantly or it could bring trouble...right...talk to you later...bye"
Ashley would finish that conversation and continue her season where she gained enemies both on and off the track, reaching the point where she convinced Interpol to make Robocop the confirmation person in regards to her still being alive whenever she was not racing for whatever reason. But it was during the off season where she would gain an enemy that would have her making a very, very tough decision only the third race into the long season. A decision she didn't like being forced to make, but one she had no choice in for everyone's sake
"It's official then, the one thing I was hoping to avoid I'm going to have to do...this is going to hurt everyone and I know it, but there's no choice, not if I want to give Interpol a chance and have everyone else I care for, or at least feel protective of a chance to survive"
Ashley heads to headquarters and confirms that the next race, while not at Casa Cristo levels was still one of the more dangerous races and thus a race where she could fake her death easier than in a standard race due to the fact that the next race was a combination of rally racing and regular racing
"I see, how many agents this time around and why?"
"Five agents, all supposedly independent drivers due to the fact that quite frankly we think that we have a criminal organization within the race teams and you're to try and keep them from winning and to see what they're possibly up to"
"I see, this is serious then if you're having that many agents involved in the race"
"Yes it is indeed that serious, almost as serious as the Casa Cristo race where we're going to have all of our racing agents in it this time around"
Ashley gives out a low whistle at that announcement
"Do you do that every year? I mean, since this whole unit started"
"Yes actually, last year was bad circumstances plain and simple, but this year we're going to have everyone racing"
"I see" (thinks) "You're not going to like what's going to happen then, you're going to have to put your emotions aside and race if it's still being held after I fake my death. It's going to be hard, but it's also a necessity that you're currently unaware of"
"By the way, tough loss, are you and the car okay?"
"Fine sir, the car needs minor repairs but we'll be ready for the next race"
"Good, things are getting rough though, think there's a reason behind it?"
"Not sure sir, not sure"
Suddenly the boss gets a phone call and switches to one of the few languages that Ashley didn't know despite her knack with them
*Hello?...yes...I see...okay...okay...understood...bye*
As soon as the boss hangs up Ashley knew it wasn't good news
"What happened?"
(Sighs) "We just lost two agents, they're agents not associated with this unit but still Interpol all the same, they were working undercover on a human trafficking case and were somehow found out, they were brutally executed and then dumped where they could easily be found by the public as a warning"
"I see, how was this found out?"
"An anonymous tip stated that they would be found at the Vatican doorsteps, the Vatican doesn't know who sent them the tip but they found our agents before anyone else could and are preparing their bodies for burial now. Per the wishes of the agents they'll be buried in Italy where they died, or at least where there bodies were left, the Pope has agreed to hold the funeral as neutrally as possible considering his involvement in it since one doesn't even follow a religion and the other is muslim"
"I see...and we can't attend the funeral can we?"
"Not if we want to keep our covers intact, the funeral is supposed to take place only hours before the next race which means we would have to forfeit due to not attending"
"I might have a solution"
"Oh?"
"My contact person, the one who I call to confirm I'm still alive if I go off grid, I could ask that he attend the funeral and discreetly record it for us, the EDC would let him and he has leave time accrued if needed"
"You sure?"
"Yeah, look, the EDC knows I'm part of Interpol, and while I turned down joining them and the military they still respect me and I know I can call on them if needed for anything, and the same goes for them, if they need me they can call me and I'll come as fast as I can arrange things. That was part of the agreement I made when I joined Interpol in the first place, I know it doesn't sound like much but at least while we can't be there in person we can still mourn with our fellow Interpol agents even if it's slightly delayed. Besides there's a good chance that the EDC will be invited anyways since they are technically galactic law enforcement officers and if he mentions that I personally asked him to attend the funeral in my stead they'll probably allow it"
"Okay, make your calls and we'll go from there"
And so Ashley calls both Alex and her family and it's agreed that Alex would attend the funeral in Ashley's stead and record it for the entirety of Interpol, not knowing that the Vatican was also recording it for Interpol since that had become standard at Interpol funerals since shortly after the Cybertronians had woken up and held one of their own funerals with it obviously being recorded for those unable to attend for whatever reason
