Ch24 - Patience

I laughed softly, as he tightened his arms around me; we stayed like that for a while, refocused my gaze on the pendant, still in my hands; I was slightly skeptical at first, but it's worked twice now.

Our future child is going to be a girl. I smiled again, as I replayed the moment over in my head. I leaned further into Killian's embrace.

Once I was back on the ground, we sat back down at the table.I reached out to place the pendant back in its bag, I was stopped; I glanced up at Killian, who still looked perplexed.

He reached for the bag, lifting the pendant out of the bag again, the chain resting on his hook. He smiled softly, before he spoke.

"Emma love, I would like to hear the story behind this; but only if you want to tell me"

I nodded, smiling softly; I decided to tell him the full story.

"It starts off a little sad, but it's also a nice story; and no I don't mind telling it to you"

I took a deep breath, before speaking again.

So a long time ago, back in the enchanted forest my parents were fugitives; they were hiding out in the woods with Ruby and a few others and according to my mom chaos broke out and that's when they decided to spilt up. Anyway before they went their separate ways, my dad told my mom to go to his mothers cabin; but my mom wasn't sure, because that would have been the first time they met. My dad reassured her, that his mom would be more than welcoming; due to their engagement. Once she was reassured, my mom then ran off, only to be knocked to the ground by Levitation, and after she confronted him, he revealed himself to be Lancealot; former Knight of the Round Table..."

I took another breath before continuing the story.

"Well Lancealot was tasked with bringing my mom to King George. So he placed a hood over her head and and took her to the king. My mom told me that King George was a bitter and twisted person, and he used my dad for his own selfish reasons; my mom being selfless, didn't really care about what he would do to her because she was protecting my dad. So he did something that was unforgivable, under the guise of giving my mom a drink; what my mom didn't know was, the water was laced with a curse..."

I took another breath, as I heard Killian's breath hitch at the mention of a curse. He reached across the table and placed his hand in mine.

I smiled softly, before continuing once again.

"My mom wasn't aware it was laced with a curse, and once she was aware of it; she was stunned. The King, used the same curse that his wife had been given many years before. The curse meant that my mom wouldn't be able to have children..."

I was about to continue, when Killian interrupted me.

"Emma love, sorry to interrupt; if your mother was cursed then how did the pendant predict that she would have you?"

I laughed softly, before answering his question.

"It's funny because I asked my mom the same thing, but as she said to me; I'm getting to that part"

He smiled, and encouraged me to continue.

"Eventually she was taken back to the forest, and she told me that she knew by that stage the curse had taken hold, and a few moments later she then heard someone approach her position on horseback. Lancealot apparently felt guilty for his part of her capture and being cursed, so he offered to help her; well my mom didn't fall for it, until he mentioned the cabin where my grandmother lived. King George, sent men to the cabin to kill my grandmother; as he knew she wouldn't fight back. My mom and Lancealot journeyed to the cabin, where she found my dad and grandmother; my grandmother had been shot with a poisoned arrow..." I paused, taking a breath.

He squeezed my hand gently, I looked up; smiling softly, before continuing the story.

"Well my mom being who she is, apologised for not getting there sooner; she told me that my grandmother recognised her, after hearing so much about her. My dad knew that my grandmother could be healed. So Lancealot, my parents and my grandmother then journeyed to Lake Nostos; during a stop, my grandmother removed the pendant from her neck; and then explained that the pendant had been spelled by a gypsy. My mom told me that she was skeptical, and that it wouldn't work on her because she had been cursed; my grandmother told my mom that it could predict the sex of your firstborn. My mom was still wary, but she was reassured that it worked, as it had previously predicted that my grandmother would have a boy. That's when my grandmother explained how it worked, North to South you're having a boy; East to West, you're having a girl"

I watched as Killian nodded in understanding, he quirked an eyebrow in my direction.

"So when the pendant swayed East to West, after you used it today; that meant that we're definitely having a girl in the future?"

I nodded, smiling softly.

"Yeah, so after my grandmother explained how it worked; she asked my mom to try it. My mom was scared, because she had been cursed; but she indulged my grandmother. But when it didn't work, my grandmother assumed it didn't work anymore; that it was nothing but a silly superstition. After a while, my grandmother knew something was wrong and my mom told her that she had been cursed; and it meant that she wouldn't be able to have children. However my grandmother reassured her that they would find enough water from the lake to heal them both"

I kept my gaze on the bag that held the pendant, I then felt an arm wrap around my shoulders. I glanced up, and that's when I noticed that Killian had made his way round the table.

He then guided me to the couch, once situated; he sat down beside me, he tightened his embrace. I took another deep breath, before speaking again.

"When they eventually got to the lake, it was dry; my mom look tended to my grandmother, who was slowly dying. Lancealot and my dad searched the lake for any source of water. While they looked, my mom stayed with my grandmother; who told my mom she wanted her to drink the water. She wanted my mom to be healed over her, she then told my mom that parents always put their children and that someday my mom would understand. My grandmother was fading, but thankfully my dad and Lancealot found enough water to heal her. When it didn't work, my dad blamed himself; my grandmother didn't want to waste the time she had left, so my parents asked Lancealot to marry them"

I sighed internally, as I felt Killian shift slightly; pulling me further into his embrace.

"Anyway midway through the ceremony they drank from a cup, which unbeknownst to my mom contained the water from the lake. You see my parents didn't know that my grandmother didn't drink the water, she only pretended too. My mother was healed, but didn't know it yet and after they married; my grandmother died. My dad couldn't wrap his head around it, and that's when she knew that my grandmother didn't drink the water, because she wanted my mom to give my dad the family he needed. So when my mom used the pendant again, she was stunned as it swayed East to West; predicting that they would have a girl. My dad was confused by my moms confession, as he thought my mom was already pregnant; but it was just the pendant predicting the future"

After I finished speaking, nestled into his embrace; feeling slightly happier, knowing that my grandmother's sacrifice was all worth it in the end. It gave me hope, and for once I'm going to hold onto that hope.
