Ch33 - Goodbye
"Killian, you need this; because you deserve closure, and this is the perfect way to do so, and take as much time as you need. I'll see you back home, I love you"
I was slightly skeptic when Emma suggested that I take some time to say goodbye, her method for doing so; surprised me, so that's how I found myself heading down to the harbour and making my way over to the Jolly Rodger.
The second I stepped onto the deck, the breath I didn't even notice I was holding; left my lips in a sharp exhale, I then made my way to the spot where Milah died in my arms.
I closed my eyes as I remembered what happened that fateful day, as I was tied to the mast; only to be set free, with seconds to spare as I rushed to reach Milah before she died.
I sat down, beside the helm; I glanced down at my hook, trying to form the words in my head before voicing them. I opened my mouth to speak, my voice breaking as I did.
"I'm sorry Milah, I'm sorry that I couldn't save you; you were my first love, and I'm sorry I failed you"
I closed my eyes again, and listened to the wind; and it was almost like I could hear her respond. I smiled softly, and continued speaking.
"Emma told me all about your meeting in the Underworld, I'm glad that you finally met each other; it was Emma's idea for me to do this, she wanted me to get some closure. She's very understanding my Swan, she knew that I needed to say goodbye to you; so that's why I'm here"
I took a breath, before speaking again.
"Milah, I'm sorry that you had to face death again at the hand of the Dark One; I'm sorry that I wasn't there, but I hope you're finally at peace and that Bae has forgiven you. I just hope wherever you are, that you're happy. I know I promised to avenge your death, and I did for 300 years; there wasn't a day that I didn't think of you, but I've changed now and that's because I met Emma"
I paused, gathering my thoughts; before continuing.
"You're a lot alike, both fierce; but loving mothers, protective and you both managed to steal my heart. It's rare to find love, when you're a pirate; but I found it twice, you'll always have a place in my heart Milah...As you were the first woman to breach its walls, and after you were gone; I steeled it from being breached again. So thank you for loving me, and showing me that I was capable of doing so; and thank you for being there for me, even though I couldn't be there for you"
I stopped speaking, knowing that I had said; what I needed to, I stood there for a few more minutes. Listening to the waves lapping at the side of the ship, letting the sound comfort me; I pulled my flask out of my pocket, taking a quick drink.
I stood up, glancing at the spot once more; before walking down the plank, I stopped turning around and whispered softly.
"Goodbye..."
I then stepped off the plank, walking back down the harbour and made my way home; I took the steps leading up to the front door slowly. I opened the door, raising my voice slightly, before speaking.
"Emma love, I'm home"
I waited for a response, only to be greeted by silence; I stepped inside, closing the door behind me gently. Where was she? I took my jacket off, and wandered into the living room; when I discovered she wasn't there, I made my way into the kitchen.
I then made my way upstairs, checking our bedroom; the bathroom, the guest bedroom and nothing. I pulled out my talking phone, and pressed the Emma button; I sighed in relief when she answered.
"Hey Killian"
I responded.
"Emma love, where are you?"
I heard her take a breath, before speaking.
"I'm in the woods, I'm sorry; I knew that I said I would meet you at home, but after I suggested that you say goodbye to Milah...I decided to say goodbye to Neal again. I'll be home soon"
I smiled internally, before answering.
"It's alright my love, take all the time you need; I'll see you when you get back, I love you Emma"
She replied.
"I love you too Killian"
The call ended, and I made my way back downstairs; making my way into the kitchen, I decided to make a start on cocoa with cinnamon for Emma. Over time I've come to realise, that having the cocoa with cinnamon has been a source of comfort for her; I was in the middle of finding cups to pour the hot liquid into, when the front door opened.
I turned around, and a smile formed on my face; when I spotted Emma standing in the doorway, I spoke, just above a whisper as I did.
"Where you able to say your goodbye love?"
She nodded, before smiling softly; she then spoke.
"Yeah I did, I'm sorry that I wasn't here when you got home; but like I said, after I suggested that you say goodbye...Well I wanted to do the same thing, so I went into the woods; to the spot that Neal died, and I said goodbye. But more importantly, where you able to say goodbye?"
I nodded, before speaking.
"Yes, and thank you for suggesting it; it was difficult at first, to find the right words...The second I stepped onto the deck, my mind flashed back to the day that I lost her, and then I found myself stood by the spot where she died and then I sat down beside the helm; and I managed to say what needed to be said, and it's all thanks to you my love"
That's when I noticed, she was smiling; I returned her smile, and then turned back to finish the cocoa. Once it was ready, I poured it into the cups; I then carried them to the table, and I gestured for Emma to sit down.
Once she was seated, I placed her cup down in front of her; she smiled in thanks, and then I sat down facing her. We drank the beverage, in a somewhat comfortable silence.
I studied her, and I noticed; that she looked slightly lighter, than she had since this morning. I suppose using magic, to find out what happened to your husbands former lover; will do that to you, and yes I completely understand why she was feeling jealous. I've been there before, with the wooden man child.
This town has had stranger days, and we've overcome them; so I have no doubt that we will overcome this one as well. I glanced in her direction, and I realised she was looking at me; I smiled, she then spoke.
"Milah, would be so proud of you Killian"
I smiled softly, before speaking.
"And Neal, would be proud of you Swan"
She smiled, before finishing off her cocoa; I finished mine as well and then Emma lifted both cups, she then took them to the sink and she set about cleaning them.
I stood up, and moved to lean against the counter beside the sink; I lifted a cloth, and reached out for one of the cups to dry it. I smiled, when Emma handed me the cup; and after both cups had been dried, we made our way over to the sofa.
We then sat down, with my back resting against the arm of the sofa; Emma then situated herself between my legs, I placed my arms around her waist...
