Ch34 - Into The Woods
I watched him as he turned, making his way to the harbour; I watched as he disappeared from view, and I noticed that he seemed a bit lighter than he had moments ago.
Once he was completely away from view, I turned to make my way home; but I only got about halfway there, because all I could think about was Neal...
I quickly turned around, and found myself heading towards the forest; I guess I needed some closure too...
I stopped when I reached the edge of the trees, taking a breath; before continuing, I then continued heading further into the forest. That's when I found the spot where Neal died, my reason for coming here was because of Gold.
I figured that Gold would probably head to the cemetery, and I didn't want another awkward encounter; so I knew that the forest was my safest bet. It's also secluded, so I'll be able to say goodbye; without anyone walking past.
I crouched down, and closed my eyes; as memories from that day flooded my mind, about how he was tethered to his dad and the only way to find out who the wicked witch was to untether them.
Even if it did result in Neal's death, I remember how I begged him to live; because he needed to see Henry, who didn't have his memories. In the end however, he died in my arms; as Gold watched on.
That's when I spoke, just above a whisper.
"I'm sorry Neal, I'm sorry I couldn't save you; you should still be here, if not for me then for Henry. At your funeral, he didn't even know who we were burying; and after at Granny's, I was so angry at Zelena...And that's when Killian stepped up, and offered to tell Henry stories about you...then his memory returned, and he remembered everything about you"
I sighed softly as I remembered, when Neal discovered that Henry was his son; the look on his face, when I confirmed it, well shock would have been an understatement.
I spoke again, this time about Henry.
"You would be so proud of him Neal, he's the author now; and can you believe that, he's taller than Regina and me?..."
I stopped speaking, and closed my eyes; and listened to the wind, and it was almost like could hear his laugh. My eyes opened again, and I could feel the tears build up.
I spoke above a whisper again, as the tears fell.
"I miss you, because you were the first person that I cared about; and you should have seen the look on my dads face, when I mentioned that you gave me a few tips on how to pick locks...I was so angry with you, when you abandoned me; and let me go to jail, but now I understand because you thought you were helping me...I still have the swan keychain, I don't wear it anymore; but I've kept it in a box along with some of my other childhood memories..."
My thoughts broke, as my phone rang; I took it out of my pocket, and I glanced at the screen. It was Killian...shoot...He's probably back home already and wondering where I am.
I smiled as I heard his sigh of relief, when I answered.
"Hey Killian"
He responded.
"Emma love, where are you?"
I took a breath, before speaking.
"I'm in the woods, I'm sorry; I knew that I said I would meet you at home, but after I suggested that you say goodbye to Milah...I decided to say goodbye to Neal again. I'll be home soon"
He paused slightly, before he answered.
"It's alright my love, take all the time you need; I'll see you when you get back, I love you Emma"
I smiled softly, before replying.
"I love you too Killian"
I crouched down again, before speaking again.
"Goodbye Neal...And thank you for everything"
I stood up and headed back home, when I got there; I took the steps slowly and when I reached the door, I opened it slowly before stepping inside.
That's when Killian turned around, a smile formed on his face; when he spotted me, and that's when I noticed that he was in the middle of making hot cocoa.
He spoke, just above a whisper.
"Where you able to say your goodbye love?"
I nodded, before smiling softly; I then spoke.
"Yeah I did, I'm sorry that I wasn't here when you got home; but like I said, after I suggested that you say goodbye...Well I wanted to do the same thing, so I went into the woods; to the spot that Neal died, and I said goodbye. But more importantly, where you able to say goodbye?"
He nodded in understanding, before speaking.
"Yes, and thank you for suggesting it; it was difficult at first, to find the right words...The second I stepped onto the deck, my mind flashed back to the day that I lost her, and then I found myself stood by the spot where she died and then I sat down beside the helm; and I managed to say what needed to be said, and it's all thanks to you my love"
A smile formed on my face, and Killian returned it; he then turned back to finish the cocoa, I could hear the liquid being poured into the cups. He then turned back around, and gestured for me to sit down.
Once I seated, he placed her cup down in front of me; I smiled in thanks, before he sat down facing me. We drank in a comfortable silence.
I could feel his gaze on mine, I felt lighter; I didn't want to use magic, but I'm glad I did. Because Killian deserved to know what happened to Milah, but I just hoped that he understood why I felt jealous.
It's not like he hasn't experienced it before, because he has; with August...God this town has been through a lot, and we've been through a lot as a couple too.
That's when I lifted my head slightly, and glanced up at him; I then spoke.
"Milah, would be so proud of you Killian"
He smiled softly, before speaking.
"And Neal, would be proud of you Swan"
I smiled, before finishing off my cocoa; Killian finished his too, I then stood up and took the cups to the sink. I then made a start on cleaning them, and that's when I heard Killian move.
He leaned against the counter, with a cloth in his hand; he reached out for the first cup, I handed it to him so he could dry it. We repeated the action with his cup, after they were dry; we made our way over to the couch.
We then sat down, Killian moved so he could lean against the arm of the couch; I then situated myself between his legs, I smiled softly as I felt his arms go around my waist...
