Christmas Wish

Chapter 7

Kate went back to work hungry rather than face the crowd in the end. Even Rick went home hungry though he had a kitchen where he could make something for himself.

Kate endured Bridgett staring at her since she had been there when Kate had kissed Santa. Bridgett didn't say anything, only stared at her. That was until it was time to leave for the day. "Congratulations, Kate. You have a boyfriend, and it's Santa."

"Thanks, Bridgett, though I still need to find out what happened."

Kate didn't bother to go home. Instead, she went straight to the house and knocked. Unsurprisingly, Alexis answered the door. "KATE!" Alexis was happy to see her and hugged her.

"Alexis." Kate leaned down, gave her a squeeze, and kissed her. "Do you know where your dad is? I have a few questions for him."

"He's in the kitchen, cooking." Holding hands, Kate and Alexis headed to the kitchen.

Kate wanted answers. "Rick, what did you do?"

"Well, hello to you too," Rick said.

"Hi…" Kate tried again. "Now, what did you do?"

But he wanted something from her. "Do I get my kiss first?" Kate gave up. She sighed and kissed him.

"Thank you, lovely lady! All right, I went to Lucy and told her everything, including what Abagail told you about not being able to date me. She hadn't heard of any such rule and doubted there was one.

"Next, I went to Abagail and brought her to the office where Lucy was waiting in the shadows. I got Abagail to repeat the lie, and once she did that, I told her she was fired. Since I'm Santa, I could do that. Then I brought Lucy in and told her she was now in charge. All of that was effective immediately.

"I took Abagail to the hospital and left her there after that."

"Hospital? Why the hospital?" That didn't make sense to her.

"The only way this works is if Abagail doesn't remember any of it," Rick explained. "So the hospital is going to remove part of her memory. She'll be fine; she just won't remember everything."

Kate wasn't sure she liked that. "Are you sure that's necessary?"

"If she retains her full memory, she could use that to disrupt things, such as trying to keep her job by fighting Lucy. She could also use it to stop us from dating each other. She'll still be Abagail, but without a complete memory. It's perfectly safe, or so Doctor Stiers tells me."

"I guess," Kate agreed reluctantly. "I just wish there was a different way to deal with it."

"Lucy will do a good job," Rick told her. "Dinner is ready."

Kate sat with Alexis and listened as she told her everything about her day while Rick cleaned up from dinner.

It got to be that time, so Kate went upstairs with Alexis, watched as she got into her pajamas, and tucked her into bed. She picked up Monkey Bunky and tucked him in beside Alexis. She even sang to Alexis and kissed her forehead.

Rick was right about one thing. Alexis had forgotten about her offering to replace her monkey.

Kate came downstairs and sat next to Rick. "She's asleep already."

"Does it really bother you that Abagail is in the hospital to remove part of her memory?" Rick asked her. "I tried, but I didn't see an alternative."

Kate shrugged her shoulder. "A little, but you're right, she would have caused trouble. I suppose it's for the best."

"When do you have a day off work?" Rick inquired.

"I work tomorrow, and then I have two days off. Where are we going on our date?" Kate really wanted to know.

"I haven't worked that out just yet, but I'll think of something," Rick promised.

"I can't wait any longer, Rick. I need you to make love to me." He wiggled his eyebrows at her, and Kate squealed when he picked her up and carried her upstairs.

Rick started with her breasts and kissed his way down her body. Kate pushed his head lower and spread her legs wide to give him access. She loved it when he ate her pussy. He was really good at it. She climaxed and came on his face. Except he didn't stop, he continued to eat her pussy till she climaxed again.

Then he kissed his way up her body till he kissed her mouth. She tasted herself on his lips. She felt him at her entrance and she spread her legs wide and relished the feeling of having him inside her. He fucked her until he climaxed. Kate didn't climax, but that was all right.

Kate flipped them, knelt on the bed and took him in her mouth. She again tasted herself on his cock. She worked till he climaxed and filled her mouth with his Cum.

She moved to his mouth and kissed him, filling his mouth with his Cum. He swallowed it all; she made sure of it. She got on top after that, lowered herself down on him and rode his cock. His hands were on her breasts, just like she loved. She adored it when he touched her.

Kate was close to another climax when she leaned back until her hands were on the bed. She climaxed, and so did Rick. She felt it.

She leaned way forward and kissed him. Then rested her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat. She liked it like that. It was such a soothing sound.

Kate woke up suddenly. At first, she didn't understand why then it hit her. She remembered something! She needed to share it with Rick, so she shook him to get him to wake up. "Rick… Rick."

"Wha?" Rick was still sleepy and not fully awake.

"I remembered something. I have a memory," Kate told him.

"Memory. Tha's nice." Rick rolled over and tried to go back to sleep.

Kate swatted him to get him to wake up. "You need to listen."

"I'm awake, I'm awake!" And he was now since she had hit him.

"It was Christmas, and I had one present from my parents. It was an airline ticket to Paris along with a hotel. They were sending me to Paris on my own. They trusted me to be on my own.

"But Mom made me wish for something. She had never done that before. I thought up something I thought was stupid and made a wish. You know what I wished for?" Kate asked while looking at him.

Rick shrugged. "I have no idea."

"I wished that if I died, I would be reborn an Elf. An Elf, and here I am. I'm an Elf. That has to mean something." Kate searched his face, hoping for some kind of answer.

"An Elf, you're sure?" Rick asked and watched her nod her head. "Interesting. You wished you were an Elf. That sounds weird, but I can't deny you are an Elf. And you are new here." Rick thought about it. "We need to ask Lucy. Maybe she knows something."

"I had an airline ticket and a hotel room for Paris that I didn't get to use. Can we use it now? I know we're at the North Pole, but can we use it?" Kate asked hopefully.

"I don't know, Kate. I'll have to think about that. When was this time in Paris?"

"It was when I was out of school, so it was June, I think," Kate replied.

"June gives me lots of time to figure it out. Go back to sleep." Rick yawned so wide that his jaw popped, and he tried to go back to sleep.

Kate lay her head back on his chest. "I can't sleep. This is too big." She got up and left Rick to sleep. She put on her panties and a top and went downstairs and into the kitchen. She looked for something to drink. The North Pole didn't have alcohol, so she settled for a glass of milk.

She sat there and drank her milk and tried to remember more. That was when it hit her and hit her hard. "I WAS SHOT!"

Kate was up and running upstairs to wake up Rick. "Rick, Rick!" She shook him awake.

He blinked at her blearily. "What is it this time?"

"I was shot," Kate told him. "I remember. I answered the door, and I was shot by someone!"

Rick sat bolt upright. "You were shot!" He leaned back and tried to think. "You were shot."

Kate nodded.

"Hm, you are new here, and you wished you were an Elf. That all adds up. You were shot and killed and were reborn an Elf. We need to talk to Lucy. I don't know anything about it." Rick shook his head. "You were shot," he repeated again.

"Yes. I don't know why or by who, but I was shot," Kate told him.

Rick looked at her thoughtfully. "I wonder if Abagail was blocking you, keeping you from remembering. And Lucy allowed you to remember."

"Why would Abagail block my memory?" Kate didn't understand.

"Maybe to help you adjust to being an Elf," Rick suggested. "It does help explain why you have no personal items of any kind. I've seen your room. Your space is bland."

Kate thought about that. "Yeah, it is." It made sense.

"Come back to bed. We'll talk to Lucy in the morning." Rick pulled her down until she was on top of him again.

Kate went willingly, but she couldn't sleep. She had way too many questions.

~oo0oo~

Come morning, Rick had to take Alexis to school, and Kate had to go to work. So she didn't get answers that morning.

While Kate was at work, Rick sought out Lucy and asked her. Satisfied with the answer, he made it snow and ended up right next to Kate. "Rick?" She was happy to see him, but he had a look on his face that she didn't like.

"You need to come with me. You're forgiven for missing work, according to Lucy." Rick took her hand and made it snow. They ended up in his living room.

She both did and didn't want to know. "What is it, Rick?"

"You better sit down for this, Kate." Rick waited for her to get comfortable. "It seems Abagail was blocking your memory. Perhaps to spare you the pain. I don't know. At any rate, Lucy found out about it and cleared the blockage. That's why you can remember those things.

"They did happen – your Christmas wish, your present from your parents, even your shooting. But there's more, and you're not going to like it," Rick warned her.

Kate sat there patiently and listened. She was a little scared now but not much. She was happy that she knew what she did.

He took a deep breath. "I don't know the details, and I'm sorry, but there's no easy way to tell you this. You were shot after your parents were both killed. I don't know why that happened, but it did. It may well be why Abagail blocked your memory."

"Dead, my parents are dead?" She felt tears begin to fill her eyes. She barely remembered them, and yet they were dead. She felt Rick sit down next to her, and he held her.

"I'm truly sorry, Kate. I didn't think this was what I would learn when I spoke to Lucy." Rick wished there was something he could do to comfort her.

"Dead." Kate finally broke down and sobbed. She held onto Rick like he was a lifeline, the one thing that held her together.

After she calmed a little, Rick offered, "I can take you to Lucy if you like. You can listen to her tell it. Maybe ask her questions?"

"No… maybe." Kate didn't know what to think.

"I'm not leaving you." Rick took her hands in his. "Not like this, so I have today off too. You don't have to go back to work. You can stay here with me. The entire day, just you and me. And Alexis when she gets out of school."

"Thank you." Kate was still hurting. "She doesn't know why I was shot?"

Rick shook his head. "No, that's something beyond her powers. She only knows that you were and that your wish to be an Elf kicked in, and here you are. You're an Elf."

"It's a good thing too. Without that wish you would be dead-dead." Then Rick had a thought. "You said your mother never asked for you to make a wish before."

Kate nodded. "Yes, that was something new," she confirmed. "Mom never did anything like that until that day."

"I wonder..." Rick had an idea but no way to prove it.

"What?" Kate wanted to know what he was thinking.

"It's just a thought, mind you, but what if she suspected something bad was going to happen, and she made you make a wish? Of course, she had no control over the wish but maybe…" Rick trailed off as he thought about it.

"That's nuts! How would she know something was going to happen? She would have warned me. Done something about it. Stopped it from happening," Kate argued.

"Yes, all good things, but what if it was just a feeling? A mother wants what's best for her child. So she made you make a wish. You want what's best for Alexis, don't you?" Rick asked her.

"Of course I do," Kate said, and then it hit her. She was in love with Alexis. Even more to the point, she was in love with Rick. She loved both of them. She wasn't ready to tell them yet, though she knew it was true.

Kate got back on topic. "Someone killed my parents and killed me. Why? I didn't do anything or know anything."

"I don't know, but you're alive now." Rick kissed her cheek. "I suggest you concentrate on now. Forget about what happened. It's over and done. Don't live in 'what if.' Live for the now."

Kate thought about that; it was easier said than done. She decided on what to do now. For now, she reveled in being in Rick's arms.

Rick could feel Kate was quiet and resting against him. He allowed her the moment.

~oo0oo~

Kate didn't want to pick up Alexis, but she hoped seeing the little girl would clear up her gloom. She wanted to feel better. She was dead, yet not...

"KATE!" Alexis ran toward her and hugged her. It instantly made Kate feel better. She forgot all about being dead.

"Hi, sweetie! How was school?" Kate asked, knowing what the answer would be.

"Great! But I'm glad you're here." Alexis hadn't let go and kept hugging her. Rick didn't take it badly that he didn't get the same treatment since he knew she loved him. He was just happy that she loved Kate just as much.

"Come on, you two, it's time to go home." He touched both of them, made it snow and they arrived in the living room of his house. "Now, you stay here and keep Kate company while I start dinner."

"Okay." Alexis was happy to do that. Once they were alone, Alexis got right to the point. "Are you going to marry my daddy?"

Kate was taken aback by the question. "I don't know. For one, he hasn't asked me, and for another, it's rather early to even think about that. We only just started dating."

"He hasn't asked you?" Alexis didn't understand. She thought her daddy loved Kate like she loved Kate. She got up and rushed into the kitchen to ask him. "Daddy!"

"Are you going to marry Kate?" Alexis asked the second she saw him.

"What?" That took Rick by surprise, and he looked at Kate.

She shrugged. "Don't look at me. I have no idea where that came from."

After hearing that, Rick focused on his daughter. "That's for me and Kate to work out, and not you, Alexis."

"But you love her, don't you? Kate loves you, I can tell," Alexis insisted.

"I…" Rick knew he loved Kate but was holding back because he didn't want to press her.

Alexis turned to Kate. "Kate, tell Daddy you love him, so he'll ask you to marry him."

"Alexis, why is it so important that we get married?" Rick asked her.

"Because."

"Because why, sweetheart? Tell Daddy," Rick coaxed.

"Because I want a…a mommy and daddy," Alexis said softly. "Everyone else in school has a mommy and daddy."

"You want us to get married because you want a mommy and a daddy. What if Kate doesn't want to be a mommy right now?" Rick asked.

Alexis turned to Kate. "Tell him. Tell him you want to be a mommy." When Kate didn't answer her immediately, she took off crying, running blindly for her bedroom.

"Alexis," Kate called after her.

Rick started to follow her, then paused and told Kate, "I'll talk to her."

Kate shook her head. "No, let me talk to her. I think… I think I'm in this." She walked over to the stairs and went up to talk to her. Kate came into her room and saw Alexis on her bed, clutching Monkey Bunky. She sat on the edge of the bed. "Alexis?"

"NO, go away! You don't love Daddy. You don't love me," Alexis sobbed.

"That's not true. I love you. I sing to you every night. I tuck you into bed and give you Monkey Bunky. I kiss you because I love you. I even get you into your pajamas every night. Of course, I love you," Kate said reassuringly.

"You do?" Alexis asked through her tears.

"Yes, I do. I love you. Believe me when I tell you that I love you." Kate moved in a little closer, pulling the child nearer and held her.

Alexis clutched her as if her life depended on it. She calmed down quite a bit. Alexis looked up at her and sniffed. "You love Daddy?"

"Yes, I love your daddy," Kate told her. "I'm just not ready to tell him. It's complicated."

"Huh?" Alexis didn't understand.

"Your daddy hasn't told me that he loves me. So I can't tell him that I love him. It's complicated," Kate said again.

"That's silly," Alexis told her, still not understanding.

"It's a grown-up thing, honey. You wouldn't understand it," Kate told her. "But I promise the second your daddy tells me he loves me, I'll tell him I love him."

Alexis thought about that. So, all she had to do was get her daddy to tell Kate that he loved her. Then she would have a mommy and daddy!
